First initial review was four stars because I felt like the ending was a bit too tidy and somewhat unrealistic. THEN I read this part of the author‘s note - bumped it right up to five stars. Honestly, it was a fantastic read and I flew through it. Beware of multiple TW. #readyourkindle

Really enjoyed this! I‘d been hesitant to read or watch anything Bourdain related as his death was so shocking to me when it happened. Loved hearing about the crazy adventures and what it was like behind the scenes. Wish Tony had been more willing to truly let people in and been in therapy for a lot longer - who knows if it might have gone differently 😓😞

I don‘t know why it took me so long to read this. I loved Homegoing and I think something told me this would be a difficult read as well. Oh, it was difficult, but also SO beautiful. So many times I was saying “yes” in my head, or nodding, particularly when Gyasi writes about religion (I grew up in a southern Baptist church). So many heavy, sad topics packed into these pages. I loved it.

Not really weird but it‘s an opportunity to brag on my oldest kiddo (he will always be a kiddo for me despite being almost 13 😱). He was watching a play through of a favorite video game and mentioned how one villain shows up at the start, but you don‘t actually fight the villain until the end. This resolved everything from the last book, which I was happy about, but I didn‘t expect to be so absolutely blown away - this is my favorite of the series thus far. I love Gamache, but I also like that despite his kindness, his brilliance, he is human and makes mistakes. It showed a whole different side of him and now I love him even more ♥️ #readyourkindle

Okay, so I‘d checked this out from the library, started it, and it made me so uncomfortable. Then, lovely @AmyG gifted it to me and I figured the universe must be trying to tell me to read it. I ended up absolutely HOOKED. Yes, it‘s SO CRINGY at times, and there are definitely triggers. I hated Doug with a passion. Just wow, this could easily be a favorite of the year for me.

How to describe this? Ultimately, I kind of loved it, but with reservations. I felt like there were too many storylines, and some of those weren‘t fleshed out enough. It feels like she tried to pack SO MUCH into the book but left out some important parts. That being said, I LOVE her writing and I love her characters.
