This is the third or fourth typo in this book, two like this one(the “p” right before the quote). It hasn‘t kept me from enjoying the book, though! Considering it‘s a BOTM edition I‘m not sure whether to be surprised or not.

An entertaining enough read. I just read Carrie in October so this suffered a little in comparison. It was fine and it kept me engaged. I‘ve probably been generous with my stars as I had a few nitpicks. I‘m glad I borrowed this from the library instead of buying.

I am getting in the #SnickerdoodleSpirit #Readathon with the next #HitchToScreen selection and Happy color. No goals. Just books and cozy vibes. Thanks @Bookwormjillk !

Bookwormjillk Highsmith is so good at writing creepy. Enjoy! (edited) 3d
Sace @Bookwormjillk Agree! While I haven‘t seen the movie based on this I feel like Hitchcock owes a great deal to her. While listening I‘m thinking “yup. Very Hitchcockian” and I have to stop myself because her work came first! 3d

I am ridiculously excited about this feature on the StoryGraph!

julesG Very handy, indeed 3d
Sace @julesG I‘ve usually got multiple books going at once and inevitably I have to set one aside for a while, but it‘s not a DNF. This is a great feature for me. 3d
DogMomIrene Just paused two books🙃 What a freaking amazing feature that I didn‘t even know I needed! 3d
See All 7 Comments
Sace @DogMomIrene right? And since The StoryGraph gives average time to read a book stats those books that lingered made that stat artificially long (I‘m a slow reader but not that slow). It will be nice to pause books. Though I‘m still hoping for the option to hide the average reading time stat. 3d
Clare-Dragonfly 😮😮😮😮 I hadn‘t seen that yet! Wonderful! I‘ve just marked six books as paused 😅 (edited) 2d
DogMomIrene @Sace Oh, interesting. I just joined TSG maybe two months ago. I‘ve mostly been tracking reading, but I haven‘t looked at their stats in depth. I know they‘re much more comprehensive than GR so yeah, I don‘t want to get penalized for my books that are in progress…from months ago…because hello…reading a lot. 2d
Sace @Clare-Dragonfly this feature arrived two days after I made the impulsive decision to just delete a book and rather than let it languish (because it wasn‘t a DNF but just not the right moment). 2d

I was really interested in this #LittensLoveRomance pick, but I‘m trying really hard to cut down on book purchases and spending in general. Lo and behold I go to check it out (again) and it‘s only $2.99 on kindle AND I have some credits so it‘s only $0.74! I couldn‘t let the opportunity pass. Now let‘s see if I can read it in the next two weeks!

julesG It's a quick read!! Congratulations on the bargain. 5d

#Two4Tuesday Thanks for the tag @TheSpineView

1. My morning coffee and scrolling through Litsy.

2. I have several books going at the moment and I‘m not sure any of the MCs could be described as having a “best trait” since they are all kinda flawed. I‘ll just go with Nancy Drew and say her best trait is determination.

I finished it a day late but I enjoyed this one. I went back and forth between audio and kindle. It‘s very melodramatic with strong Perils of Pauline vibes. Perfect escapist and atmospheric read. Like others have said, it was extra fun to be reading it at the same time of year as in the book. My winter break is coming up and I‘m going to try to talk hubby into watching the 1939 movie with me.

JenlovesJT47 Yes, Strangers On A Train is the one we‘re reading starting today, then I‘m going to do Rebecca after the next book probably. There are 3 Daphne Du Maurier books and I want to space them out a little bit. Rebecca is so good!! 1w
Sace @JenlovesJT47 I had started Strangers on a Train but decided to put it on pause and listen to Jamaica Inn. I‘m glad I did. It was enjoyable. I‘ll start back with Strangers this week. It‘s also really good. Can‘t wait for Rebecca! 1w

Jeff Hayes is still brilliant. I still love Princess Donut, but I didn‘t like this level as much. Mordechai was mostly missing and when he was around he was this weird froglike thing with a weird croaky thing going on. The tangle also confused me. Still a pick though!

DogMomIrene Felt the same way. It was hearing the Cookbook entries from previous crawlers that made the book more enjoyable for me. 1w

DogMomIrene Yes on Litsy‘s importance. I‘m so glad I decided to make Litsy my social media platform of choice. 1mo
Sace @DogMomIrene Amen! It‘s not that I think it‘s pure escape and the world never appears, it‘s that it‘s a calm and respectful place even when opinions differ (though in the past I was not so calm, empathetic or kind myself. I see that now.) 1mo
DogMomIrene @Sace Totally agree. Husband & I named our dogs Bernie & Lizzie after the Senators and we moved to 🇨🇦 because we‘re good with tax💸 going to social supports. Litsy feels very Canadian to me in that people do calmly express their views and folks remain respectful. Please don‘t be hard on yourself. In my early Litsy days, I remember a few people who I don‘t see here now being kind of not kind, and I have no recollection of that ever including you. 1mo

Amiable @DogMomIrene How are things looking with Canada‘s next election? I‘m reading things that concern me —Canada can‘t become the next North American hellscape! The U.S. already has that spot filled starting in 2025. 😖 1mo
AnnCrystal 💝💝💝💝💝. 1mo
Sace @DogMomIrene You are too kind. I just remember a post 2020 election post from a Litten who truly feared what Biden‘s election would mean for her and while I don‘t think I was overly cruel, I also don‘t think I was very empathetic either. It‘s stuck with me. 1mo
Sace @Amiable And by gum we have to be number one at something! We can‘t let Canada win. 🤣 🤣 🤣 (so I don‘t 😭😭😭) 1mo
tpixie Nice!! I‘m trying to use bookshop.org more- alternating with proceeds going to my local bookstore & Friends & Fiction- since I live their podcast and what they have done for the literary world and Indy bookstores. 1mo
DogMomIrene @Sace 🤗🤗🤗 1mo
DogMomIrene @Amiable Answer Part 1: So we moved from BC to PEI. The riding we lived in out in BC was razor thin between NDP & Conservatives for the provincial election. The number of “🤬 Trudeau” signs I saw in our small town in 2021 - 2023 when we moved was surprising. The Maritimes are more conservative, but they‘re generally more polite about not agreeing with Liberals & Greens. NDP doesn‘t really get votes here. 1mo
DogMomIrene @Amiable Answer Part 2: for federal election, I think anything can happen here. Pierre Poilievre, Conservative leader has his quips of a platform: “Axe the Tax, Build the Homes, Fix the Budget, & Stop the Crime”. And Federal govt is cutting back on # of immigrants they‘ll be allowing in. What I‘m hearing after the Trump win is that some Canadians are concerned about the border, and whether 🇺🇸 will honor Safe 3rd Country Agreement. 1mo
DogMomIrene @Amiable Answer Part 3: Canadians I know are definitely concerned about what may happen with Trump. They may be voting for a party leader who they feel can handle Trump. Hence me saying I think it‘s in the air… at present. 1mo
Sace @tpixie I have not heard of that podcast. I‘ll have to give it a listen. 1mo
tpixie @Sace they are live on fb and YouTube every Wednesday. The episodes are also podcasted. They started in 2019 during Covid with five authors chatting weekly. And then they started having author guests. Now there are four authors who switch off every other week with a guest author & once a month all 4 are together. 1mo

Amiable @DogMomIrene Thank you for a thorough and thoughtful response! I appreciate the insights. Hubby and I scouted Montreal this spring as a potential Plan B— we like that it‘s only an hour train ride back to Burlington (VT) for healthcare if/when Medicare is our insurance. How are you liking PEI? I‘ve never been but want to visit. (edited) 1mo
Amiable @Sace I just wish we could be number one at something other than misogyny, homophobia, xenophobia and bigotry. We‘re in a race to the bottom, for sure. 😖 1mo
DogMomIrene @Amiable We‘re loving PEI. I do see some parallels btwn here & 🇺🇸South, like “Who‘s your daddy?” kind of attitude. Some Islanders resent Come From Aways moving here, like 1 of our neighbors whose daughter flat out told my husband she doesn‘t like people moving here and buying “their houses”, so I‘m cautious whenever I‘m talking to someone who may be politely resenting my presence. Upside is that more CFAs are here so more potential friends. 1mo
DogMomIrene @Amiable Your Montreal Plan B sounds good. Check out Macleans magazine too. They had a cover story on private healthcare options in 🇨🇦. Would be worth exploring options in Montreal. I‘ve heard lots of views about private HC here from Canadians. What I‘ve noticed is that for services I‘ve looked at, the prices are more affordable than OOP expense in 🇺🇸. If you take any RXs, having a 🇨🇦 provider would be easier for refills. 1mo
Sace @Amiable *nods head vigorously* 1mo

Thanks for the tag @MaleficentBookDragon

1. Hard choice. They are both beautiful but I guess a sunrise holds more promise.

2. Philosophical, parallel and engrossing.

I will be reading for the foreseeable future. I am a public high school teacher. Please explain to me how I am supposed to teach teenagers to respect others, be kind and do what‘s right.

Chrissyreadit No answers or understanding. I am trying to figure out how to provide mental health care to a population that uses medicaid and most likely voted against everything that they benefit from. 2mo
Sace @Chrissyreadit Honestly I am without words. My bigger fear is the enablers. Our guardrails barely held last time. 2mo
TheLudicReader I don‘t know how I am going to explain it to my students…and I live in Canada. It‘s a shocking result. 2mo

AllDebooks I think the whole world is in shock rn. As always in a crisis, man-made or natural. Look fur the hope, the helpers, the positive. But it's ok to take a moment to deal with the sadness and anger. My thoughts are with you all. x 2mo
Chelsea.Poole It‘s like reliving the same nightmare. Here comes 4 unstable chaotic years of division and horrific policies. (edited) 2mo
Sace @TheLudicReader teachers everywhere are struggling today. 2mo
Sace @AllDebooks I will be spending a lot of time on Litsy and reading. 2mo
Sace @Chelsea.Poole That‘s why I‘m so confused and hurt. Supposedly we are all tired of the division yet the nation has voted for a party that sows division. 2mo
CBee @Sace I‘m right there with you. Gutted. 2mo
staci.reads 😥 I am with you 2mo
Karisa As a middle school teacher, I agree. All the wrong lessons being taught and validated 😭 2mo
Sace @Karisa Yup. I have one class of freshman and they are so ugly to each other. I guess it‘s also the age, but they are also bombarded on social media with people just being rude. 2mo
Sace @CBee @staci.reads I‘m trying to tell myself that this too will pass. 2mo
DogMomIrene I suspect the US may see many teachers and librarians changing careers😭😡🤯 2mo
Scochrane26 @Chrissyreadit I‘m worried about my clients, too. 2 of my teens were anxious yesterday & don‘t understand why people would vote that way. My job also relies on Medicaid, we have a ton of Medicaid in my state yet over 60% of my state voted for him 🤦‍♀️. I‘m really worried how this will affect us worldwide—very easily could become involved in wars. 2mo
Chrissyreadit @Scochrane26 same. my state votes overwhelmingly red every election and cannot connect the dots. we also have a majority on medicaid…. 2mo
Leftcoastzen Truly a tragic turn of events for democracy. 2mo
Librarybelle I rarely discuss politics on social media, but I had to post something on my FB feed this morning. Yet, I feel so drained and numb and without words. I can only hope. 💔 2mo
Sace @Leftcoastzen @Librarybelle I am going to lean in to assuming the best in people. I am going to try to remain hopeful. I refuse to believe this is who we are. I say this as someone who lives in a ruby red state. The fear I feel is the same fear I saw from neighbors in 2020. I want to maintain empathy for their fear. Hating them won‘t get me anywhere. I hope I‘m making sense and not sounding defeatist. 2mo
Librarybelle It‘s a good way to look at things, @Sace . ❤️ 2mo
JenReadsAlot I don't have the words.... 2mo
Sace @JenReadsAlot I have words but they aren‘t the right ones. 2mo
BarbaraJean Modeling respect and kindness and compassion really does make a difference… as well as all the things you mention: assuming the best, maintaining empathy, remaining hopeful. (Good for your own mental health as well!) This is a terrible turn of events, but teachers like you make a difference and are so needed right now!! 2mo
Hooked_on_books Over sixty million people voted for something different than this. That‘s not a small number. It means there‘s a whole lot that feel how you do. Channel them. 2mo
Sace @Hooked_on_books it is not. I‘m not playing the angry hate game anymore. There‘s work to do but I believe in us. 2mo
Sace @DogMomIrene But that‘s not an option for me right now 😢 2mo

Starting this today for one of the November discussions on The Big Read. I need to be careful. I‘ve started a lot of books lately!
