May 2025 Book #1

I really wanted to like this book but it was a little disappointed to me. It has mixed reviews, people love it or not. Well, I‘m one of those who didn‘t like it much. That beginning was just unrealistic and then even when it has creepy scenes, it didn‘t make any sense unless you “imagine” what you want to happen. For me was more like a mental health situation. No, it wasn‘t for me 2.5/3⭐️

Here I come again...like the song, trying to review all the books I read in 2025 task to be completed by tomorrow😱In 2026 reading goals this will be improved. Good news, I didn‘t read much this year😅
May 2025 Book #1 I started the book the previous month but finished it on May. Like this author‘s writing style. Stories are inspired on real facts and it‘s interesting to search for the real facts while reading. I liked the twists and ending. 4⭐️

BookishMarginalia My perennial goal is to track my reading. Hasn‘t happened yet 🤣🤣🤣 9h

❤️ My family always put candles on our family graves on Christmas Eve night*, and it was one of my favorite traditions. I no longer live where most of our family is buried, so I gathered up some photos and lit a candle for them.
❤️ The jókabókaflód swap was such a joy. I am halfway through the book. It's so good.
❤️ My other favorite Christmas Eve tradition: riisi puuroa for dessert
❤️ Bracciole for Christmas Eve dinner
❤️ Gift card from work

#AuldLangSpine #Cheers! @monalyisha
Turns out almost all the photos of me drinking involve books (Litsy may be the only place where this is true for others). I drink black coffee every morning, and my typical fun drink of choice is IPA (Oktoberfest beers are 2nd maybe). I also really like whiskey, bourbon, or scotch, with just a little water. I never had a favorite cocktail until my birthday this past year when I tried a 'rusty nail' - delicious!

Billypar Honorable mentions to tea (black/green) and wine (red). I might have these from time to time, but the tannins don't agree with my stomach all the time. 6d
Billypar *The main photo is from Spotty Dog Books and Ale, a bookstore/bar in Hudson NY - highly recommended! 6d
monalyisha Love this! I‘ll definitely have to bring a book to a local brewery and snap a pic at some point during the month. I think it‘s a safe bet to kick the 1st off with a coffee cheers. ☕️ I‘m also interested in this Rusty Nail situation! I have an inkling that my husband may like it more than I will… but I love trying new things. Will keep you posted about ingredients acquisition & the likelihood of me actually drinking one. 😉 6d

Leftcoastzen Cool post ! 🍷Hope your holiday season is great ! 6d
Amiable My husband and I visited the Spotty Dog last summer —very cool place! He especially loved the fact that it‘s in an old firehouse (he‘s a firefighter). 6d
Billypar @monalyisha A coffee cheers to kick things off sounds great! So, when I had the drink out, it was the fancy version (with 'olive oil washed bourbon', and not called a rusty nail - I had to look up the ingredients later). I haven't tried to recreate that one, but the Drambuie still helps improve the humble blended whiskey that was previously collecting dust in my liquor cabinet. 6d
Billypar @Leftcoastzen Thanks - happy holidays to you as well! 5d
Billypar @Amiable I love converted spaces in general - gets away from the cookie cutter saminess in a lot of modern places. I've only been once but would love to go back at some point. 5d
TieDyeDude I'll have to try a Rusty Nail! I think a Kentucky Mule is probably my most reliable cocktail, but, when done right, sazarac is #1. We don't have any subdued bars local, so we usually go to a brewery for reading. We like the dark beers 😁 #cheers 5d
Billypar @TieDyeDude Those sound good - I never even heard of a Sazarac but have wondered what absinthe tastes like. I've had mixed success reading in bars - definitely depends on the bar! 5d

To think that this movie didn't do well at the box office when it first came out still stuns me. Good ol' George Bailey ... the richest man in town. Plus, Jimmy Stewart! 💚🤍♥️

AnnCrystal it is strange that this wasn't successful at first. I haven't seen this in years, but it was a childhood favorite...I need to revisit this classic 💚🎬🤍🎄❤️. 6d

JenlovesJT47 My favorite favorite Christmas movie. The colorized version is phenomenal if you haven‘t seen it. And I have such a huge crush on Harry! He is so adorable. 🥰♥️💚🤍 5d
dabbe @JenlovesJT47 This is my sister's favorite, too. I had to share it with her as well (she's not on Litsy). This is in my top three (the others being LOVE ACTUALLY and THE HOLIDAY ... this year!) But Jimmy Stewart is always #1! 💚🤍♥️ 4d
JenlovesJT47 This is the first year I haven‘t watched The Holiday before Christmas. I love that movie, need to fix that this coming week. You have excellent taste! Love Actually is hilarious and heartwarming. My faves are this, White Christmas and Trading Places. But there are so many good ones! ♥️🤍💚 4d
dabbe @JenlovesJT47 Excellent choices! And you're right; there are so many good ones. We should do a Christmas movie something event on Litsy next year. ♥️🤍💚 4d

The Color Purple | Alice Walker

The Color Purple, by Alice Walker (1982) [RE-READ]
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Premise: The story of one group of Black folk‘s search for love and beauty amidst the horrors of the Jim Crow American South.

Review: If any book published in the last fifty years deserves to be in the canon of Western literature, it‘s this one. ⬇️

Mattsbookaday It is searingly honest in its portrayal of both its characters‘ difficulties and joys and is the kind of book that will change the way you look at the world, for the better. This has been my number 2 all-time favourite novel for many years now, and this re-read only reinforced this lofty position.

Tamra @tournevis this is my mom‘s 1963 edition of the tagged. I believe it‘s still being printed. 🍪 (edited) 1w
tournevis @Tamra I see! I know it. I tend to prefer older cookbooks so it drew my eye! 1w
