I've been re-reading a lot of classics for my Twitch streams (in addition to stuff I hadn't read before), so this happens to me a lot. Such as discovering that I actually enjoy Dickens... if I'm reading him aloud for other people! But I tagged my go-to example because I read this as a straight (heh) horror novel as a kid. Now I read it knowing all about Victorian queer coding and it's a completely different novel.

BookmarkTavern I recently saw a ballet based on this! It was amazing! Thanks for posting! 6h

I listened to the audiobook when this first came out, but didn‘t pay attention well… Last year I viewed the series and was blown away by Ewan McGregor‘s characterization of Rostov. Had to read the book again-

Bookwormjillk I can‘t think of one but this is one I do have on my list to read again. I thought it was meh the whole way through until the ending blew me away. 16h
BookmarkTavern Love it when an adaptation inspires you to go back to a book! Thanks for posting! 6h

#SundayFunday on Monday 😊

I‘ve read this short novella several times and each time I take something new away from it dependent on my time and circumstances. It‘s dense but worth it.

BookmarkTavern Dostoevsky does tend to do that! Thanks for answering! 16h
Mollyanna @BookmarkTavern Yes, he does 😊. Great question! Made me really think about which book to choose. 13h

To Kill a Mockingbird. As a former MS English teacher, I‘ve taught this book multiple times. Each year, I‘d find cool connections between characters, new hints of foreshadowing, and details I hadn‘t seen before. I taught many books, but this one is the one that I think surprised me with revelations every year.

BookmarkTavern I love when a book does that! Thanks for posting! 16h

Number the Stars. I first read it in grade school and thought it was good. It wasn't until I was older that I realized what I was actually reading and really understood what was happening in the book.

Wuthering Heights | Emily Bront

Two come to mind:

Wuthering Heights and A Tale of Two Cities.

I just didn't appreciate them the first time. Too immature, I guess. I was in high school. I tried again when I was a young mother. Still, no. It was in my mid 40s when I finally understood the appeal.

BookmarkTavern Wuthering is one of those I need to revisit. I was also in high school when I first read it. Thanks for posting! 1d

Forbidden by Beverly Jenkins is a book I read that was even better the second time around. Not only is it a great historical romance, but it also addresses important issues like class and racism. The HEA = so good!

I read it the second time while vacationing in Belize. Hubby & I vacationed there the week of the 2024 election. It was a very needed poolside read after the election results! A wonderful escape!

Sometimes when I reread a book, I like to change up the mode. If I read it the first time, maybe during the reread I‘ll listen. It brings out different aspects of the story, especially with a mystery. For example, when I know whodunnit (if I remember 😜), I can pay more attention to how the characters interact and so forth.
#sundayfunday

Fun fact! The title comes from The Tempest, which I probably ought to read at some point because…

Susanita The same quote: Hell is empty, and all the devils are here … is referenced frequently in this book I read last month. 2d
TheBookHippie I love The Tempest 🙃♥️ 2d

I really didn‘t appreciate this one the first time I read it, but one multiple rereads after, I‘ve grown to love this motley crew and what they accomplish.

#SundayFunday Have a wonderful day everybody, and don‘t forget to tag me in your posts!

bumpinthenight The Great Gatsby gets better every time I read it. 2d
DogMomIrene Ohhh, good question. Going to need to think about this one. I‘ve done several rereads, but a story that gets better….🤔🤓 2d
