The male indigenous MC‘s thoughts about his daughter💙
This book is a slow burn, but a captivating slow burn. It‘s depicting how I think an apocalyptic event might occur.

Need opinions on whether I should try Scarpetta books again or just enjoy the TV show when it premieres in 2025.
Last Scarpetta book I read is tagged. How many times can a serial killer go after this woman? I know series authors churn the same tropes, but Cornwell seemed to be really stuck. I‘ve searched for fan wikis about Cornwell/Kay to no avail. Book bloggers seem to have given up around the same time as me.

Random things I cared about when I was younger that I don‘t care about now:
🚌 Being popular (because I wasn‘t)
🎬 TV & movie award season
✈️ Traveling the world
🎶 Rock concerts
Things older me enjoys:
🏡 A cozy home
☕️ Starting my day with coffee & a book
🐶 Spending time with our dogs
🤫 Quiet
Musings from #MidWinterSolace
What about you? How have you changed?
Large cast of characters, most of whom I despised. Multiple perspectives quicken the pace & heighten the suspense. Who is the victim? I had my suspensions. Details weave together. In some ways it‘s too much coincidence, but who cares! This thriller delivers quite an escape.
This book gives me all these 😬🤢😲 feels. The ushers are just repulsive pigs. Actually, they give pigs a bad rap. The island is creepy as all get out. And the weather just keeps getting worse.
There are several, but Scalzi is a favorite. And if Wil Wheaton narrates the audiobook, I will be in geek heaven.
#SundayFunday @BookmarkTavern
They are listening as I explain that I get extra reading time right now instead of their play time because we‘re going to agility practice soon. Lizzie‘s already wondering how late their dinner is going to be😂
My subscription to Calm renewed and I thought about asking for a refund. Last year I had a free trial thanks to American Express. But then I thought, why not try adding the Daily Calm to my morning routine. So I‘m reading a few pages of the #MidWinterSolace selection and then meditating. Definitely feel calmer😊
Such a beautiful book. I was going to read a section at a time, but when I started this 2 days ago, I quickly realized I should just read a few pages each day. #MidWinterSolace
Will it? 🐦⬛ Loving this mystery. Everyone has secrets. The island is super creepy. There‘s an anonymous note. And everybody‘s drinking waaaay too much.
📚Excited about both my #bookspin and #doublespin titles for #bookspinbingo this January. Kicking off 2025 with some great mysteries🕵🏻♀️
Excited to be making lists for #BookSpinBingo in 2025. I already see a mistake I made though🤦🏻♀️ Going to need to change my #FictionalTraveler selection to someplace cold.

👩🏻💻My first year-end wrap up from The Story Graph. Super happy that I met my reading goal and I‘m really looking forward to reading even more in 2025 with all of my Litten friends. Hope everyone has a Happy New Year‘s Eve!
Squeezed in 4 hours of audio booking time today to complete my #10BeforeTheEnd 🤓
Realized I had read 79 books in 2024, which is just too wonky of a number so I decided to break my rule and count a children‘s book for #80, which I‘m okay with because my goal was 75 books. I hit that goal without including any children‘s books so one sweet story at the end is okay by me.
@ChaoticMissAdventures
LitRPG is not for all readers, but for those of us who love it, I‘m not sure we‘ll ever tire of Carl trawling through the dungeon in his heart-printed boxer shorts outfoxing the rules with the help of Princess Donut and a dwindling cast of fellow crawlers. Many deaths in book 5 and a huge gulp moment at the very end.
Super sweet story of a woman and her dog Carson driving across Canada to visit her sister who‘s unwell in the Maritimes. Each two-page spread features beautiful illustrations and text with just a detail or two about the different points of interest like the Rocky Mts, Niagara Falls, Quebec City, and PEI. The surprise waiting for Carson in NL is particularly sweet.

Keeping my reading goals simple and achievable.
1. Read every day, and reading 2 pages in bed before I nod off won‘t count😂
2. Read 100 books📚
3. Participate in various challenges to broaden my reading, but no pressure to complete any one of them🙌🏼
Great book to read in smaller doses. Kempton has three main sections for before, during, and after Christmas, but many other great subsections as well. Calm to read, reflect, and enact. Added to my annual reminders list, especially for rereading the section on reflecting on past year to consider what I want in the upcoming year. 🌲🌟🌚 #naturalitsy

Since I‘ve been cooking more, I‘ve also been expanding my pantry and freezer. I love the idea of having ingredients ready to go, like chopped onions, bell peppers, and zucchini. And celery and carrots. Feels like I never use up all of the carrots or celery stalks,so I‘d love to freeze them so I‘m not forced to find another recipe that week to use the remaining veggies. High hopes for this one.
Kidnapped teen girl returns home 2ish years later. She is Ellie, but something‘s off. Chapters rotate through a variety of characters. Some grisly details. High level of coincidences may push your suspension of disbelief bar too far, but emotionally I was all in. Definite feminist POV pushing for more attention to be paid to missing girls by police, media, and society.
Quote from the father of the kidnapped girl who walks out of the woods alive two years after her abduction. These characters are all flawed, but I‘m feeling for all of them.
Library hold came up on Libby, and I was in the mood for another thriller. 20% in and I‘m liking the multiple points of view, which include Ellie recounting her kidnapping. Still not sure how reliable of a narrator she is, but her visceral details juxtapose nicely with Detective Chelsey‘s fact finding. Chelsey‘s going to be relentless in finding out what happened to Ellie, and I‘m here for it!
I rarely feel this way, but I liked this follow-up prequel to Legends & Lattes more. The bookish interactions between the characters keeps the mood cozy & humorous, but there‘s so much more action brewing here. And I hope Baldree works Satchel into future books set in this fantasy world.
#10BeforeTheEnd - last physical book done. Just need to listen to 9ish more hours of my last audiobook in the next 5 days🤞🏼
The observations about readers, writers, and bookshops in this one keep cracking me up!
Viv‘s first impression of this bookstore doesn‘t sound great, but I imagine the shop keep Fern will sway her toward reading. Comfy reading for Christmas Eve.
❄️🌲☃️ Happy Christmas Eve everyone!
Enjoying our backyard view with the #naturalitsy book all about keeping the holiday season in check. So happy to be relaxing in our emerging home library, our Christmas gift to us.
Of course, the lounge chairs we chose don‘t have room for dogs to snuggle right up next to us. I‘ve placed super comfy dog beds in here, but Lizzie is still not happy with this seating development.
Second cozy mystery featuring Doodle, the bedbug detecting labradoodle, and his people. Love Doodle‘s humorous narration. His observations about humans crack me up. Great series option for middle graders who love dogs and light detective work.
✅ Book 2 for #SnowedIn
@PuddleJumper
Not the best natural lighting as the snow continues to fall, but we just got our second area rug & lounge chair yesterday, so I had to document our library progress. Ordered a small end table for between the lounge chairs today. Still have books to shelve. I think I‘m going to have to rearrange some sections…again😂 And since I moved the game/dining table from the “back library” to the “front”, I‘m debating if I need to move our games collection🤔
😂 Also love Kroupa‘s sense of humor which shines through Doodle‘s point of view.
Snuggling up for some #SnowedIn2024 reading during the #SnickerdoodleSpirit Readathon
@PuddleJumper @Bookwormjillk
Kroupa‘s MC for this #cozymystery series is Doodle, a bedbug sniffing Labradoodle. Love how she uses his perspective to teach people about dogs🐕💛🐾
#TenBeforeTheEnd progress is better than I would have thought when I created my original line up. Planning on finding more audiobook time because I‘ve got just under 10 hours to go on tagged book. 14 hours if I need to drop my speed. Audiocooking requires a slower speed for me. I don‘t think it will take me long to read Bookshops & Bonedust, so I think I‘m actually going to finish this challenge, which makes me feel great about wrapping up 2024.
Reactive to Relaxed is the most current Control Unleashed book from Leslie McDevitt. As someone who has struggled with Generalized Anxiety Disorder herself, Leslie writes that she was drawn to the dogs with big feelings. And that comes through in her thorough system to help these dogs navigate the human world. She throws in some good humor too. I‘ve used pieces of CU, but reading the A-Z of this system makes me realize that I need to commit to it.
Perfect for MS students seeking more fantasy. Main plot centers around Ella, the 1st conjurer to attend the Arcanum Training Institute, and her struggles to be accepted in the Marveller world. At times I tired of the whole outsider angle, but as a 50ish woman, I‘m not the target audience. Good lessons on friendship and loyalty. Loved that the villain was female, and a cunning one at that.
✅ First book for #SnowedIn2024
📢 Happy to announce that Bernie McSquare and his papa passed their therapy dog test. Thank you all for the well wishes. Now we wait for next administrative steps from Companion Paws. While Bernie did well with kids during training sessions, my husband will probably be visiting the hospice house here and some retirement homes. He‘s also going to see if Island EMS stations across PEI would like visits from Bernie.
Finally reading Control Unleashed: Reactive to Relaxed. This quote makes me think of all the dogs I see & hear out in the world who are struggling. So many dog guardians don‘t recognize the signs of anxiety in their dogs. When I‘m training Lizzie on walks, we regularly pass other dogs who lunge at us and those guardians shrug it off. I want to tell them their dog needs help, but I don‘t see that conversation going well. It‘s actually really sad.
Thanks for the tag @AllDebooks for #SaturdayChatterday
We‘re quite excited! Our labradoodle Bernie has aspired to be a therapy dog for 7ish years. We‘ve moved 3x in those years, so we‘ve done a lot of preparing/training. My husband Matthew and Bernie will be testing tomorrow for Companion Paws Canada. Our trainer says they‘re ready. I know they‘re ready. Crossing all our paws that test jitters don‘t make either of them too nervous. 🦮💜🐾
Fun fast-paced thriller. Not really techie either. Technology plays a role, but the husband character who would spout off the most technobabble gets murdered in the beginning. The twists regarding who was responsible for his murder were predictable, and there were times I wanted to shake sense into the MC wife who was chasing the killer. Even so, reading about her exploits to figure out why someone would want her husband dead was pretty gripping.
#Naturalitsy #MidwinterSolstice 👟Favorite Walk🐕🐕
We live near a golf course that allows people & their dogs to use it as a walking spot in the off season. Love it on most days. Last spring, we saw a few Bald Eagles 🦅 including one that swooped down, maybe 20 ft from us, skimming the rough grass for prey. Very cool! Based on the eagle‘s pattern, I don‘t think it was trying to snatch Littlest Doodle.
@AllDebooks @Chrissyreadit @TheBookHippie
21% into this thriller, and the MC‘s husband has been murdered. Loving this story, but her reluctance to retain counsel has me pulling my hair out.
She clearly has not seen James Duane‘s presentation “Don‘t talk to the police”🤦🏻♀️

My second C.J. Tudor thriller, and I‘m sure it won‘t be my last. As I learned more about the three different sets of characters stranded in blizzards, I started to suspect one of the twists, but I still had no idea where the story was going. I love books where the tiniest description can come back into play. Had me using the search function on my Kindle several times.
Another one down for #10BeforeTheEnd
This book is bananas 🍌 I‘m loving how C.J. Tudor just drops me into these three different scenes of people who are clearly connected in some way, but in addition to navigating their where, I‘m also figuring out the state of the world thanks to some virus, that definitely sounds worse than Covid.
#10BeforeTheEnd is shaping up for me. I‘m going to read that Control Unleashed book if it kills me! I‘ve had it on my #TBR for so long.
My last three fiction books should be fast reads. I‘m putting my audiobook of Dungeon Crawler Carl aside while I listen to my library Libby hold for the Marvellers, one of my #SnowedIn choices. But I know I‘ll get back to Carl. Princess Donut will not be ignored!
For now, I‘m reading the tagged ebook🦠❄️🏔️
SA is basically a dog having a panic attack😢
Here are 178 pages explaining everything from myths about SA to implementing a training plan. Best dog book that I‘ve read that truly explains why paying for a Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer is worth a pet guardian‘s time & money.
Interestingly, CSATs work remotely all the time because this training relies on video surveillance of the dog when people aren‘t around.
So much this. Our other dog knows we‘re coming home and he‘s pretty calm when we leave. Littlest Doodle Lizzie gets really upset. She‘ll try bolting out the door with me or us. Her phobia is genuine, and I need to meet her where she is to help her. Excellent book so far!
Sitting down with this dog book today. Our littlest dog has anxiety and some noise phobia along with separation anxiety. Looking at SA training in the new year.
Picked up my library hold today. Checking out the tagged book. Thanks @kezzlou85 for the recommendation.
Found the sequel to The Plot as well. May be able to speed through that one as well before the end of the year.
My #FridayBookShare for #MidwinterSolace is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Not a comfy read, but it‘s one of my favorite mysteries, and the most suspenseful scenes take place in winter.
