#MentalHealthMonday

I was doing pretty good yesterday. We had a family dinner Sunday night to celebrate hubby‘s birthday and that good feeling lasted until I saw reports of ICE being in our town and the next one over. These were citizen posts and vitriol that came out was disturbing. I haven‘t found any concrete info to verify validity yet.

This morning woke up to mass firings at my husband‘s company. The manufacture metals and EM & Space X ⬇️

Deblovestoread Are customers. So far it is safety and environmental departments that are cleaned out. Sh*t is getting real and scary. Husband is union but doubt that is any sort of protection at this point. Just trying to breathe and not go into catastrophizing this situation. 4d
Deblovestoread I don‘t really do self help books but the tagged book helped me years ago. Might be time to bring it out again. 4d
TheBookHippie Sending light. ICE is here as well, and nasty, they are very happy they don‘t have rules anymore. BREATHE. 4d

ImperfectCJ It's not awesome right now, that's for sure. Waiting for the other shoe to drop (and wondering how many shoes there are) is nerve-wracking. Sending you a deep breath. Hopefully you can find something beautiful to bring you a bit of solace. 4d
AnnCrystal 😢🫂 scary times 🙏💝. 4d
Ruthiella ❤️❤️❤️ 4d
AmyG It‘s all so frightening. 4d
dabbe @TheBookHippie @Deblovestoread My “like“ is in total support of YOU both and your towns against this abomination. Stand strong. ❣️👊🏻❣️ (edited) 3d
KadaGul Is there a country welcoming those distressed by Trump's leadership, offering a compassionate standard of living, embracing diversity, and providing meaningful benefits? I'm truly hoping to find such a place. 3d
bthegood @Deblovestoread @TheBookHippie @ImperfectCJ @AnnCrystal @Ruthiella @AmyG @dabbe @KadaGul - My heart goes out to you and your husband Debra. One of my colleagues, on the board of Annunciation House (their stated mission “Accompanying the migrant, refugee, and economically vulnerable people of the border“) is going to El Paso with 12 students over the break to work at Annunciation House - there is good in the world - find the light. CoverToCoverGirl @KadaGul Canada is such a place but he is taking aim at us too. I‘m horrified for the entire human race. 😢 2d

Monday was hard on so many levels, and I flaked on #MentalHealthMonday .

1. I‘m here—that‘s probably the best thing to say. But, the lack of doomscrolling has made more time for reading and cat cuddles!
2. Self-help books are usually not for me. I get very discouraged with them, and it‘s wonderful they help so many people. While not necessarily self help, and not about mental health, I always recommend “Maybe You Should Talk To Someone” by ⬇️⬇️

Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️ Lori Gottlieb. It took me on an emotional rollercoaster, and I cannot recommend it enough. I tend to connect more with fictional characters. One recent is “The Collected Regrets of Clover” by Mikki Brammer, about an incredible woman living a lonely life. So much sentiment in this one, and I could see myself in the character in many ways. 4d
Kerrbearlib I‘ve heard good things about Maybe You Should Talk to Someone. Mikki Brammer‘s book sounds good, thanks for sharing! Fiction about mental health absolutely counts for books on mental health. Have you read Tiffany Sly Lives Here Now? That‘s a great YA read with a teen who has OCD and anxiety. (edited) 4d
Kerrbearlib That‘s great the lack of doom scrolling has given you more time for reading and cat snuggles. I think reading and cats snuggles make difficult days more bearable. I need to remember that the next time I‘m doom scrolling or mindlessly scrolling. 4d

Librarybelle @Kerrbearlib I‘ve not heard of that book, so thanks for the recommendation! That probably would have been helpful back in my teen years too. I think cat snuggles make anything better! 😻 4d

1. Back and forth.
2. Tagged. I was recommended this book a few years back and it honestly helped so much.
@Kerrbearlib

Kerrbearlib Oh, I need to read this! Thank you for sharing! 4d
Kerrbearlib It was a back and forth day for me, too. 4d

1. On the surface I‘m fine. Deep down, however…
2. The tagged book and, apparently, anything by Jenny Lawson.
#mentalhealthmonday

Ruthiella Deep down is much harder to manage. ❤️ Especially on Mondays. 5d
wanderinglynn I feel you. 💜 Deep down is tough. 5d
Kerrbearlib Thank you for sharing that title. Stacked! I know what you mean about deep down. It's hard. Sending support ♥️ 4d

1. I'm a bit sleepy. Cats woke me up early. I may nap later! 😆
2. I read this book the summer of 2016. I hadn't dealt with depression in years, but that changed after the November election. I'm glad I read it when I did. It reminded me it's OK to be not OK. I wrote Jenny & shared how much her book meant to me. She wrote back to thank me & said she really needed to hear it that day.

#MentalHealthMonday

TiredLibrarian I liked this one; it gives a lot of practical ideas for dealing with anxiety. 5d
dabbe 1. I'm doing better than LAST Monday! #oy!
2. Tagged. It made me embrace the introvert that I am.

CatLass007 1) I‘m doing okay today so far. Follow-up appointment with my PCP this afternoon. The foam for my psoriasis is not generic so I can‘t afford the copay. I will ask him to prescribe something else. And the topical cream he prescribed for my arthritis isn‘t helping so I‘m going to need a referral to pain management. But neither of those is a big deal. 2) I can‘t remember if I‘ve ever read any mental health care books. I know I have some (cont)⬇️ 5d

CatLass007 on my list and I probably have some in my audio and physical libraries, but I‘m not sure if I‘ve ever actually read any of them. 🤷‍♀️ I guess I should check on that. I want to emphasize that I do things that are good for my mental health. I read/listen to books. I crochet and sometimes embroider or cross stitch. And I have four wonderful kitties who are, without any hyperbole, literal lifesavers.🐾🐾🐾 (edited) 5d
CatLass007 @dabbe You aren‘t an introvert on Litsy! You are extremely active and always encouraging.❤️❤️❤️ I know that virtual interaction and in person interaction are not the same. I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate you. And I‘m sure I‘m not alone in that. So wherever you are, you do you and go on being awesome!🤩 5d
CatLass007 @Kerrbear I want to let you know that #MentalHealthMonday is an amazing idea and I appreciate you creating this group and including me. I‘ve yet to meet a Litten who isn‘t wonderful. 5d
dabbe @CatLass007 Well, you just made my day, week, month ... Thank you! It's amazing that I was a public school teacher my whole life, too. I've been told how outgoing I am, but most people don't know how much it takes out of me. Litsy allows me to be that gal but with the benefits of cocooning in my home. You also bring great joy to Litsy, m'dear! 🩵🩶🩵 5d
CatLass007 Okay, Michelle Obama‘s Becoming wasn‘t specifically written to help others‘ mental health, but I learned a lot from her. And I started listening to The Light We Carry, and I need to start over because it‘s been a while. So here‘s my input. 5d
Kerrbearlib @TiredLibrarian thanks for sharing! Stacked! 5d
Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 thank you! I am so glad started this group. You do some great stuff for mental health! Cats are absolutely life savers! (edited) 5d
Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 I still haven't read Becoming, I should do something about that - I've only heard good things! 5d
Kerrbearlib @dabbe fellow introvert here! I love that book so much! Thanks for sharing the title with us! 5d
CatLass007 She had a podcast when the book was first released and it‘s excellent. She also had a podcast when The Light We Carry was released. Since I‘m restarting the book I also am going to restart the podcast. I have listened to the book and podcast far enough to be able to recommend both. 5d

Kerrbearlib @CBee thanks for sharing the title! Stacked! 4d
Kerrbearlib @CBee I think I may have read the Hope book years ago. I will have to read it/reread it! 4d
Kerrbearlib @cbee you might like this book. It's for kids but great for adults too. The illustrations are awesome! 4d

Thank you @Kerrbearlib for creating this #MentalHealthMonday

Well, it had nothing to do with a Christmas slump that I fell into after Jan. 6th, it was purely a reading slump...a real struggle to stay in the story.

Therefore we spent the weekend watching fantasy and Christmas movies (including the TV broadcast of Beauty & The Beast).

It was a rechargeathon, which refuelled my love for all things fantasy and hopefulness.

👇

AnnCrystal This evening I have returned to reading, and without a problem on staying engaged with the story 📚💝.

We had to check for news updates today, due to the fire risks...but limited ourselves.

#MentalHealthMonday planning to avoid the news.big NPR listener , not today.turned on the local classical music station that has no news, just noting its MLK day & featuring some well known & lesser known African American composers.Played w/ my cats , some reading.Visited the newest location of the Az Humane Soc. is also bittersweet, I want to take all the cats ,dogs ,& critters home. Inspiring to watch volunteers work to get animals adopted .

CBee We had the Weather Channel on all day. Absolutely no news except local due to this crazy winter weather we‘re having. 2w
Leftcoastzen @CBee weather is crazy everywhere . Central Az. Is slightly cooler than average but nothing drastic. I can‘t believe how cold it is some places and no snow. 2w
AmyG I watched the Weather Channel for a bit. Instead of the news this morning I watched the movie Meatballs. 🤣 2w

Kerrbearlib That's really cool about the composers. Any you recommend checking out? I find classical music great for relaxation! Thanks for sharing about your day today! 2w
CBee @Leftcoastzen it‘s below freezing here. But nope, no snow. They closed all the schools tomorrow because nobody can deal with it 😂🤦‍♀️ 2w
