A Clean Kill in Tokyo | Barry Eisler
post image

Half American, half Japanese assassin finds himself involved in a hit he'd done. He's hunted, alone and trying to save an innocent woman. Good plot, nicely written, I actually cared about the assassin. Lots of details about Tokyo.

Pickpick

This one is a low pick for me. I liked the characters put the plot was just so off the rails I couldn't get totally invested in the story. I've said this numerous times, I prefer characters and plots are at least plausible, if not, then the writing must be of such quality as to make up for the short comings. 3ish Stars
I doubt I will read the other books in the series. #SeriesLove2025 @Andrew65 #REad2025 @DieAReader #LitsyLoveReads

Mid Month recap #Bookly - Im catching up on some doctors appointments this month & some other necessities which is why I haven't been on much.

Not a bad start to the year but nothing has seriously given me shock & awe. Did manage to read two books from #ReadYourKindle list @CBee 🥳. I will update both my kindle & #BookspinBingo board for #January @TheAromaofBooks

I am loving the Forgotten Kingdom Chronicles the deeper I get into the series.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! Looking great!! I've also had a lot of solid but not mind-blowing reads this month. 4d

Growing up, one of my weekly TV viewing highlights were the repeats of 'Moonlighting' shown on British tv. The quick wit back-&-forth between David Addison & Maddie Hayes was a treat, until they brought Bert Viola onto the scene. I decided to read Shepherd's autobiography on a whim & it was OK.

'Moonlighting' itself takes up a very small part in the book (a couple of chapters at the most) & the majority of it is about Shepherd's love life.

OutsmartYourShelf I agree with her about the dearth of onscreen roles for women of a certain age, & her refusal to be shamed for not living her life how she was expected to was refreshing to read, but the revolving door of men got old very quickly.

It started to feel just a bit tawdry after a while, & I cannot believe that she was annoyed with the estranged wife of one man for not wanting her on set

OutsmartYourShelf I mean, you had an affair with her husband & he left her for you, why would you think she wants to see your face every day? Still, you lose them how you get them.

Every time I start getting a bit bored, it brings me back in. I‘m really growing to love this series.

#readyourkindle I‘m enjoying this mess of a book , about half way through. Babitz really wrote about her life generally in fictional form. I do like those sort of loosely written books that were written mostly in the 60s-70s about party people consuming too much of everything. There is a sadness for me now, Eves stories are very LA and my heart is breaking for all the loss from the fires. Unfortunately, more Santa Ana winds Monday -Wednesday 😞😢
