10th book finished for #Read2025 #JumpStart2025 @DieAReader @LizPixie

As always the Maisie Dobbs series is excellent, & this one kept up the same high standard. This one is set at the outbreak of WWII. As always a lot of intrigue, & felt it covered the evacuation theme well. The murder mystery involves people who came to England from Belgium in WWI.

2nd book read for #Read12Booksof2024 based on the 50 books I added to my TBR from #12Booksof2024

Andrew65 Thanks to @kspenmoll for nominating this book, and reminding me I needed to get back to this series. #SeriesLove2025. @TheSpineView (edited) 1mo

I was looking forward to this short audiobook but felt quite underwhelmed by it. Disappointing as I was looking forward to finding out much more about this remarkable woman. It had a nice creative lyrical style, but was lacking in depth and detail.

8th book finished for #Read2025 #JumpStart2025 @DieAReader @LizPixie

This was an excellent read about a young woman as she developed in adulthood during the Second World War. This covered some of her back story, the war element and a developing relationship with a Canadian. Kept me thoroughly entertained and will check out more by this author. Recommended 4.5 ⭐️ An excellent audiobook.

7th book read for #Read2025 and #JumpStart2025 @DieAReader @LizPixie

Read the first book in the Lord Peter Wimsey Series for #AuthorAMonth. Overall I enjoyed this book, and a good start to the series. However I felt it was a tad slow for me and the type of crime fiction that tends to be written now. I would consider reading more but won‘t be rushing to, Quite a complex plot that took some working out by the lead character. 3.5 ⭐️ Soft Pick.

This was a very good read, and a good suspense book, and good use of Podcasts throughout. This meant it leant itself very well to the audiobook format, which was narrated well. Tension kept up to the end, and some good twists as the story progressed. Definitely strongly recommended.

Finished book 5 of #Read2025 and #JumpStart2025

This one was a soft pick for me, some interesting stories and good characters, but feel I missed some of it because I hadn‘t read the first book in the series. When I picked it up I didn‘t realise it was book 2 from a series. I will now read book 1. I can see how I would have got more out of the book if I had read book 1 first.

DieAReader Doing excellent!!! 🤓book 1 is more than a soft pick🤞🏻 1mo
TierraWilliams243 I totally understand how starting with book 2 can make things a bit tricky. It's great you're planning to read book 1—it'll definitely add more depth and context to the story. As a marketer, I always suggest starting from the beginning to get the full experience!

1mo
Andrew65 @TierraWilliams243 I agree totally, and I usually do. I hadn‘t realised this was a series book until I started it and Lucy Barton came up. 1mo
thecheckoutstack I read the Lucy Barton series out of order, normally I‘d say series should be read in order but with this one I really don‘t think it matters. Every book stands alone in my opinion. Lucy By the Sea is my personal favorite. 1mo

Just started the first of the many books Littens nominated during #12Booksof2024.

Thanks to @BarkingMadRead & @TorieStorieS for nominating this.

Each month I am aiming to read 3 or 4 of the books that were nominated, and this is the first. Altogether I added 50 books to my TBR from #12Booksof2024 #Read12Booksof2024

I am reading this via audiobook, & looks like it lends itself to this format.

This one was a soft pick for me. I enjoyed the way it was taken to the north west territories of Canada (a good option for a reading around the world or Canada challenge). Not my favourite one in the series. #SeriesLove2025 @TheSpineView

3rd book finished for #Read2025 #JumpStart2025

Really enjoyed this book and kept me reading into the early hours. A story told through a succession of New Year‘s Eve‘s, alongside a current timeline leading up to a New Year. A very strong pick for me.

Strangely Amy Silver is the pseudonym for Rachel Hawkins (or vice versa). I‘ve loved both these style of books by her, but not really enjoyed the books written in the name of Rachel Hawkins.

My favourite read in Novembers for #12Booksof2024 was this latest book by Heather Morris.

This tells the story of women taken prisoner by the Japanese in World War II and the horrific time they had in the far East Prison camps. This one has all the feels and think I even prefer it to the her European prison camp books.

Also a notable mention for The Templar Secret by Scott Mariani, the last book in one of my favourite all time series - Ben Hope.

Read the first bit in the early hours so think I‘ve met the first 3 or 4 characters. We possible need a link to the characters as they are introduced, so we can keep them right.

TheBookHippie @Andrew65 @Cuilin still considering buying the signet edition of this- as the editions were so helpful in reading Shakespeare and I‘ve read this before & love it , but 5 years past I‘m a bit rusty 🤣https://a.co/d/0M6iQIc I do love my penguin deluxe classic, I have two very old copies and two fancy pants copies as well..👀🤣🙃🇫🇷 2mo
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie @Cuilin Vive la différence 2mo
Librarybelle Interesting…mine also says Digne! @TheBookHippie @Cuilin @Andrew65 2mo
Andrew65 @Librarybelle How strange, it must be the versions for England, but one of them is from the Serial Reader App. I feel left out 😂🤷‍♂️

Ruthiella You can do it! Reading these super long books with a group is so helpful, IMO. Just have patience for the seemingly interminable parts about the Battle of Waterloo, French religious orders and the Paris sewer system, etc. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 okay I‘ve got 4 of 5 say D_______ all the older ones & my fancy leather Barnes & Noble one and Penguin Deluxe says Digne!! @Librarybelle @Cuilin (edited) 2mo
TheBookHippie @Ruthiella HA AGREED!!!! 2mo
Andrew65 @Ruthiella Thanks, I look forward to finding out all about the Paris sewers 😂🤷‍♂️

You are right, it is much better to read it in groups.

TheBookHippie @Andrew65 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣spatting coffee across room just now… (edited) 2mo
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie That didn‘t take long 😂 At least it‘s not the book! 2mo
Cuilin @Andrew65 @TheBookHippie I‘m reading the Signet edition. So far it‘s good but the print is small. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 wait til the sewers… or the religion… could happen 🤣😅🫠 2mo
TheBookHippie @Cuilin That was my fear, tiny print. 2mo
Cuilin @Andrew65 I‘ve seen Signet editions in charity shops!!! Vive les friperies! (Thrift stores) 2mo
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie If you download the serial reader app it sends a section through each day and nice size font. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 ooooo. Nice! Thanks! 2mo
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie We need an accurate recording of the time and date when this happens! Waiting……………………….. 🤣 2mo
Cuilin @TheBookHippie You also have to break the spine so you can hold it. I may have to mix it up with an audiobook and an e-book. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 I remember clearly arguing with this book can‘t wait to revisit. Will have to have recording! 2mo
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie Day one section sent through Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. Today‘s section sent through Chapter 3 and 4. It‘s good for reading books (older books that are free) in small bite size pieces. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Cuilin oh yeah, my penguin I had to break the spine or it happened naturally. It‘s fairly beat up from my year with it. I do love it so. It kept me sane in 2020. 2mo
Andrew65 @Cuilin A book this size as a physical book gets to the point where it could hurt your hands and wrists. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 I‘m going to use it as an option for sure. I feel we‘re all in school helping each other with homework! 2mo
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie We need to set up the @thebookhippie virtual cam! 🤣 2mo

An easy choice for May for #12Booksof2024

Mary Jane was a superb audiobook, and really enjoyed the story, one of those books where audiobooks can make all the difference.

I also chose a physical read book, which was a lovely historical fiction about soldiers last letters from WWI - this book really needs more attention and I really enjoyed it. The type of book that stays with you.

June was the month my reading fell off a cliff, and only one five star read. So Written in Blood by Chris Carter is my #12Booksof2024 choice for June.

This is a strong crime series and one of my favourites, Robert Hunter is a great character. But you do have to like gritty with this series.

Cathythoughts Sounds great ! I must stack the first one 👍🏻😁 2mo

Been a difficult day to read as suffering a lot of liver pains and discomfort, and not had much sleep last night. This is rather stressing me - my non-alcoholic fatty liver disease I assume.

Led to me starting an audiobook, and finishing off the e-book, The Christmas Jigsaw Murders.

Finished the e-book, and in the end got in 376 pages.

Hope the pains ease off to allow me to focus on physical reading.

First book finished for the #EndofYear #20in4

An intriguing murder mystery with a crossword setter being Sent jigsaw puzzle pieces as clues to upcoming murders. She sets out investigating this much to the annoyance of her Detective Nephew.

A cleverly structured book, which was very enjoyable to read. For puzzle enthusiasts out there, this book has plenty of puzzles to solve as you read the book.

April is an easy choice for me for #12booksof2024

Simply loved The Dutch House by Ann Patchett, Tom Hanks did a superb job with the audiobook of this. My favourite physically read book was None of This is True by Lisa Jewell.

2nd book finished for #CozyChristmas

This was an engaging romance about a woman who leaves her community and sets up a B&B in the Lake District following her partner having an affair with her best friend at Christmas. She sets up an ‘Escape from Christmas‘ break at the B&B the following Christmas, whilst there is also a growing connection with the local vet.

Overall I enjoyed this book. Loved the characters and an interesting plot line, although a bit of a strange ending to this one. At points early on I found the writing a bit stilted but that may be with the introduction to the series. I felt this got better as the book progressed. I look forward to getting to the second one from the series which I have just reserved from the library.

Tove_Reads It‘s more about characters and lived lives than about the case itself. I like the second book more case wise, and I still love the characters. I find it to be a bit in between a detective and a cozy series. 2mo

Andrew65 @Eggs 😍😊😍 2mo
Andrew65 @Mollyanna Great to have you with us again, and we both love hosting this. 😍 2mo
Kenyazero I‘ll join! I‘m sure I‘ll come up with some other series I haven‘t finished later on, but I‘m going to say Ranma 1/2 because my husband picked it up when I recently reorganized my manga collection and he‘s in love with it, so I‘m going to read past the first four volumes finally. This is a continuation from when I was a teen! 2mo
Andrew65 @Librarybelle Great to have you with us, and we do love hosting this. 😍 (edited) 2mo
Andrew65 @Kenyazero Great to have you with us, always good to have some series with us through the years. 😍 2mo
PaperbackPirate I think you will like The Lunar Chronicles- very fast paced with socially conscious messaging. 2mo
Andrew65 @PaperbackPirate Thanks, definitely a series I would like to get to next year. 2mo
PaperbackPirate Good luck! 2mo
Andrew65 @PaperbackPirate Thanks 😊 2mo
Roary47 Going to work on continuing to shrink my huge list. 😅 2mo
Andrew65 @Roary47 Me too! Great to have you with us. 😍 2mo
julieclair I‘m in! I‘m changing my approach. For 2024, my plan was “wide and shallow”, dipping in and out of a number of series. I discovered I lost the feeling of continuity that makes series reading unique and special. So for 2025, I‘m going “narrow and deep” and plan to read one book each month from the Kate Shackleton mysteries, starting with a reread of the first book, 2mo
JacqMac I have been seriously considering diving into Brandon Sanderson. There is just so much, I keep putting it off. Maybe this is the time. lol 2mo
Ruthiella @julieclair I love that approach! 2mo
Ruthiella I am definitely back in for another round in 2025! 👍 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I'm nearly finished with the final book of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Next year, I'm focusing on #192025 and the #52books challenges, so I think I will be able to get a few more books read within series. 2mo
DieAReader 🤓📚You know I‘m game!! So many series to choose from but here are a few: Chris Carter, Michael Connelly, Kathy Reichs, Kat Martin. 2mo
AnnCrystal First time that I'm joining on for this readathon 🥳📚📚📚...I've been planning. I will be continuing with the Riley Thorn Mysteries, hopefully finish the Chronicles of the Necromancer series by continuing with The Fallen Kings Cycle books by Gail Z. Martin, and...my growing list is becoming a bit too unrealistic 🤔😂📚💫. 2mo
OutsmartYourShelf I'll be concentrating on finishing the Miss Marple & Poirot books by Agatha Christie as part of completing #192025

For the first few months I'll also be re-reading the Maeve Kerrigan series by Jane Casey ready for the latest one to be released in April/May. Still lots to read for JD Robb's 'In Death' series as well (I think I'm about halfway at the moment). There'll be more series that I can't think of atm.
(edited) 2mo
Texreader Im in again!! Yay!! 2mo
mrp27 I plan on joining for the 3rd year in a row! Great way to keep myself current on all my series, to catch up on a series and to discover new series! 2mo
Fortifiedbybooks I'll join in the series fun! I have several cozy mystery and SciFi series I need to get caught up on. 2mo
julieclair @Ruthiella Thanks! We‘ll see if I can stick to it, and not get distracted by all the other “shiny objects” series out there. 🤪 2mo
MonicaLoves2Read I'm in bc there's a ton I need to catch up on. Thanks for hosting 😀 2mo
Meshell1313 I‘m so in again! Love sharing and seeing what series everyone is reading. In 2025 I‘m going to read all of The Lord of the Rings books- I never read them and love all things fantasy so it seems like a wrong I must right! I also might dive into the Brandon Sanderson world- it seems very daunting. 2mo
Meshell1313 @JacqMac just saw this after I commented! I also want to dive into Sanderson! Was thinking of starting with the Stormlight triology- what are you thinking? 2mo
JacqMac @Meshell1313 It‘s all kind of overwhelming. Everything I have seen says to start with Mistborn, so I think that‘s my plan. 2mo
Andrew65 @JacqMac I‘m also wanting to start the Sanderson books. Planned for it this year but never got to it. Perhaps we can all support and encourage each other. @Meshell1313 2mo
JacqMac @Andrew65 That would be really great! 2mo
Andrew65 @JacqMac Sure we could pull something together and would be easier as a small group of people. 2mo
TheSpineView @Mollyanna YW! So glad to have you. 2mo
TheSpineView @janeycanuck Yw! Glad to have you! 2mo
CarolynM I‘ve got a few series on the go that I hope to be going on with in 2025. The one I‘m most looking forward to continuing is Viveca Sten‘s Sandhamn Murders series which I discovered in Sweden (in Sandhamn, in fact) 2mo
Jess861 Would love to join in as I am hoping to read more of the Mistborn series next year. 2mo
ferskner I'm in! I'm not 100% how it works (I'm out of Litsy practice) but I'm eager to finish some series. 2mo
JacqMac @Andrew65 A Cosmere buddy read perhaps? There are 20 Cosmere books in total. I found a suggested reading order that looks pretty good. I looked at Mistborn. The first three books, Era 1, are around 600 pages each. The first book is divided into five parts. Maybe one part a week is a good place to start? 2mo
Meshell1313 @Andrew65 @JacqMac sounds like a perfect buddy read to me! ❤️ 2mo
Andrew65 @JacqMac That sounds a good way to go. Which book are they suggesting to start with? May even be others who want to join. @Meshell1313 (edited) 2mo
Andrew65 @julieclair Yes, last year I had a very wide, very shallow approach and need to be more focussed too in 2025. Sounds like you‘ve got a good strategy. Good to have you with us. 😍 2mo
Andrew65 @Ruthiella Great to have you with us again 😍 2mo
Andrew65 @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick A great way to multitask. Great to have you with us. 😍 2mo
Andrew65 @DieAReader I will definitely be continuing with Kathy Reichs, Chris Cater and Michael Connelly. Currently have the next two Reichs books out from the library. Great to have you with us again. 😍 2mo
Andrew65 @AnnCrystal Great to have you with us! Sounds like you have some great plans, I over reached on series this year so trying to narrow it down. 😍 2mo
Andrew65 @OutsmartYourShelf I love the Maeve Kerrigan series. Some good choices you have there. Great to have you with us. 😍 2mo
Andrew65 @Texreader Great to have you with us again 😍 2mo
Andrew65 @mrp27 Great to have you with us again, this challenge certainly helps us target the books. 😍 2mo
Andrew65 @Fortifiedbybooks Be great to have you with us! Best of luck 😍 2mo
Andrew65 @MonicaLoves2Read Love hosting this. Great to have you with us. 😍 2mo
Andrew65 @Meshell1313 Some great reading ahead of you, great to have you with us 😍 2mo
Andrew65 @CarolynM Great to have you with us. Love where you found the Sandhamn Murders Seriws. 😍 2mo
JacqMac @Andrew65 @Meshell1313 Excellent!! I will break it all down and make a post with the details in a little bit. I‘ll tag you both and open it up for others to join us. 2mo
Andrew65 @Jess861 We‘d love to have you join us. Looks like a few of us are targeting that series and would make for a great buddy read. 2mo
Andrew65 @ferskner It‘s very easy going. You can choose any series you want to target in 2025, as many or as few as works for you and you can add any to it as you go through the year. When you‘ve read any books in the series just post it with the hashtag #SeriesLove2025 and tag me and @TheSpineView.

Great to have you with us 😍
2mo
Andrew65 @JacqMac Great, as well as @Meshell1313 it looks like @Jess861 is wanting to read the Mistborn books so she might want to join us for any she hasn‘t read yet. Love it when a plan comes together. (edited) 2mo
peanutnine Yes I love this challenge! Sometimes I feel like all I read are series since I'm always starting new ones! 😂 2mo
Jess861 @Andrew65 @JacqMac @Meshell1313 - I'd absolutely love to join 😊! I've only read the first book in the trilogy (Mistborn: The Final Empire) and I really enjoyed it....it's been a while since I read it so I wouldn't mind re-reading it. (edited) 2mo
Crazeedi I will definitely be in this year! 2mo
Andrew65 @peanutnine Great to have you with us 😍 2mo
Andrew65 @Crazeedi Hope you are well, and it‘s great to have you with us. 😍 2mo
Andrew65 @Jess861 That‘s brilliant, I look forward to reading the series with you all. @Jacqmac @Meshell1313 I have the first one on reserve with the library and should be able to pick it up when it reopens after Christmas and the New Year closure. 2mo
Velvetfur Thanks for the tag Andrew! Hmm I can't think of any series of the top of my head but I'll do some research 😁 2mo
TrishB I‘ll try to remember to join in again 👍🏻 I‘m always scared to actually count how many series I‘m reading. 2mo
Andrew65 @TrishB I can relate to that! 😳 I possibly need to read more standalone books. 2mo
Lizpixie Hey everyone👋I‘m back from my SM break and will definitely be in on this next year. I‘m hoping to post my #JumpStart2025 reminder tonight for everyone to start the year off right.♥️💚 2mo
Andrew65 @Lizpixie Great to see you back with us Liz, hope you are as well as can be expected. Not long back from my SM break. Look forward to #JumpStart2025 2mo
TheEllieMo I‘ve been debating with myself whether to join in this; I‘m definitely a mood reader and so not always in the mood for this or that series. But Marlow Murder Club 4 and Comoran Strike 8 are out next year, I‘ve just discovered the Olga Pushkin series, and Borrow-A-Bookshop, and I still haven‘t read Before the Coffee Gets Cold #4 or #5… So I think I‘m in! (edited) 2mo
Andrew65 @TheEllieMo That‘s great. It‘s a very informal challenge and over a year so feel free to go with your mood and just join in when you feel it‘s right for you, and also to tag us with any series books you read which weren‘t part of your original plan. 2mo
LibrarianRyan This is a usual for me (even though I suck at it) but I am in. 2mo
willaful My plan is to read at least one sequel/next in series per month and I have a list that makes no sense to anyone but me. 😂
next Palladin
Emily Wilde‘s Map of the Otherworlds
Table for Two
Ladies of Grace Adieu
Chaos Terminal
Rulebook for Restless Rogues
next Marie Lu
Imposition
Conspiracy in Belgravia
Shadowhunters
Louise Penny
Space Oddity
Rattling Bone
Kristin Cashore?
Rivers of London?
Innkeeper
2mo
Andrew65 @willaful Some good series here. 2mo
Andrew65 @LibrarianRyan Great to have you with us, so informal impossible to suck at this. 2mo
TheDaysGoBy I started the Percy Jackson series for the first time a couple months ago and still working through it so count me in! I‘ve also been considering rereading Hunger Games trilogy 2mo
Andrew65 @TheDaysGoBy Welcome. 2 excellent series. 2mo
Airykah13 I‘m in! I dropped the ball with posting last year but hope to do better this year 2mo
Andrew65 @Airykah13 That‘s great, pleased to have you with us. 2mo
