Bookmail!! I guess Canada Post is still playing catchup-up, because my mail was delivered at 7:40pm. But it‘s the best mail! I couldn‘t find these anywhere, so I ordered them from Blackwells. What a great store. And I really like how they pack them with love.

rabbitprincess Ooh I should order Warbreaker too. Am I going to end up with a complete collection of Sanderson‘s work by the end of this buddy read? Probably 😂😅 3h

Sorry I‘m a bit late everyone. My MIL died in the early hours of this morning. It wasn‘t a surprise, but it made for a crazy day. Everything is somewhat settled now and I can talk books. This book has been a great escape for me this week. This part was soo good. And somewhat unexpected. I won‘t say much up front. I know some of you are still catching up, so no spoilers. We can discuss in the comments.

Andrew65 So sorry to hear this, and sending my condolences. 1d
JacqMac This part really sucked me in. I was shocked by the fighting and the massive slaughter. I didn‘t really see that coming. How do you all feel about where we are now? What could possibly come next? 1d
JacqMac @Butterfinger @Librarybelle @Andrew65 Thanks so much. It‘s very appreciated. 1d

Meshell1313 Oh no I‘m soo sorry for your loss. Sending good thoughts your way! ❤️❤️❤️ 17h
Meshell1313 @JacqMac yes- the entire army slaughtered? Crazy! Usually one saves that for the end of the book so it was shocking as well- I think that‘s why I like him so much- I can‘t predict what will happen and I love that! 17h
Meshell1313 Also- what do we think the ascension was??? They keep alluding to it and always talk about the falling ash and no flowers growing! Was it nuclear war? 17h
JacqMac @LeahBergen @DogMomIrene @Meshell1313 Thanks. It‘s been a hard few days, but we are getting through it. 15h
JacqMac @Meshell1313 I love how unpredictable he is. I have been wondering about the ascension, too. It had to be something big. I was thinking more natural disaster, but I guess we will see. 15h

BookNAround Sorry for the loss of your MIL. 12h
rabbitprincess I‘m so sorry about your MIL. Take care of yourself ❤️ 3h
rabbitprincess @Meshell1313 OMG I hadn‘t thought of that! Good theory! 3h
rabbitprincess I liked getting more lore in this part, namely the explanation for how Kelsier Snapped. « The philosophers say a man can‘t command the metals unless he has seen death and rejected it. » Also pretty sure our theory about the source of the intro narration was confirmed ? 3h

I‘m so into this story now. And I have so many questions! I need to know more about the eleventh metal. And will we ever find out what‘s in the room? And how is the book connected to it all? And… and… and…
#CosmereBuddyRead

Leniverse Er... I should probably get started 😬😅 1w
Andrew65 @Leniverse I have only just started as needed to wait for the library hold to come in. Currently about a third of the way through Part 1. Will definitely be caught up by next week @Jacqmac. Enjoying it so far, and do have questions like you, even with the small amount read. 1w
See All 14 Comments
Meshell1313 Yes! I‘m glad we have some clarification about VIN and Kel- it‘s def reading like mentor- mentee. How do we feel about VIN and Elend?? Also- what‘s up with Sazed? He‘s def hiding something. And what is the 11th metal? Is it real? Sometimes I think Kel is making it up? But I am hooked! Can‘t wait for part 3! 1w
Meshell1313 Ooh and yes the book- and what are the intros before each chapter? 1w
rabbitprincess @Meshell1313 I‘ve been trying to figure this out too! Who is that mysterious first-person narrator? My speculation in spoilers below. (edited) 1w
rabbitprincess I originally thought Kelsier was the mysterious narrator of the intros to each chapter, but now I wonder if it‘s the Lord Ruler?! 1w
JacqMac @Leniverse 😂 Anytime. We‘re always here. lol 1w
JacqMac @Andrew65 I‘m finding it harder to stop reading now, so I don‘t get too far ahead. lol 1w
JacqMac @Meshell1313 @rabbitprincess So many questions! My guess is that the mysterious narrator is the Lord Ruler. I like that we might be getting to know who the Lord Ruler is. 1w
Andrew65 @JacqMac It will be like me trying to catch a race horse. 😂🤷‍♂️ 1w
Meshell1313 @rabbitprincess ooooooh love that! It would certainly humanize him! 1w
Jess861 I am going to refrain from commenting much on this first book as this is the one re-read for me in this series. I don't remember much as it was 4 years ago when I read it but still. I am enjoying re-reading the book so far though 🙂 1w
DogMomIrene @Meshell1313 Yes! I‘m only into chapter 2 but I‘m like, who is this intro narrator?🤔 1w

I have to be honest, I was a little worried when I started this, because what if I didn‘t like it. But now that part one is done, I have to say, I think I might love it. I am definitely intrigued by Vin and I can‘t wait to read more. How did everyone find part one? Are you loving the Cosmere yet?
#CosmereBuddyRead

Andrew65 I‘m going to be a week behind. Should be able to pick up my reservation from the library on Saturday so will catch up at the weekend. Pleased to hear you are liking it. 2w
LeeRHarry I wouldn‘t say I‘m loving it but I‘m intrigued enough to keep going. The magic system is pretty cool. 😊 2w
See All 16 Comments
EadieB I actually started reading it and I‘m loving it too. I didn‘t sign up because I was afraid I wouldn‘t understand it as I‘ve never read fantasy but I didn‘t have trouble following the story and I‘m looking forward to the next installment. 2w
Andrew65 @EadieB Sometimes for me some fantasy feels like a form of historical fiction for a different land or world. 2w
EadieB @Andrew65 I‘m looking forward to trying more fantasy. 2w
Meshell1313 Ooh same- it took awhile to get into it- but now I‘m hooked! I love the idea of “collecting” a group of misfits who can all come together for the same goal. I‘m intrigued to see where Kel and Vin‘s relationship goes. Curious what everyone else thinks about their relationship. 2w
rabbitprincess I really like the magic system. The 11th metal that is less known feels very One Ring. Everybody knows there are 8 basic metals and 2 noble metals, “but these metals were all deceived, for another one was made” 😂

I like how Kel brought the group together with his plan. He didn't bring the group a fully formed plan; he expected them to disagree and come up with ideas to overcome challenges, and that made them buy in more easily.

2w
JacqMac @EadieB Glad to have you @EadieB Like @Andrew65 said, I find fantasy to be a lot like historical fiction too. But with magic. lol 2w
JacqMac @LeeRHarry I like the way he is introducing us to the magic. It‘s very understandable. I was a little worried that it would take some time to get into it. 2w
JacqMac @Meshell1313 Yes! I love the concept of a group of misfits. Their relationship feels very father/ daughter to me. Or at least a wise old uncle. We shall see. 2w
JacqMac @rabbitprincess I love Kel as leader. He‘s very open and democratic. “One metal to rule them all” 😂 (edited) 2w
EadieB @JacqMac That‘s a very good way to say that! I love the idea of the metals as a form of power! (edited) 2w
Jess861 I love the idea of using metals as a form of power. To me it blends real world with fantasy. Can't wait to start part 2! 2w
JacqMac @Jess861 I like the use of metals, too. It makes the magic feel accessible. 2w
DogMomIrene I haven‘t started yet. Once I finish my current ebook, I‘m diving into the Cosmere. Happy to read that people are liking it.🙌🏼 2w

So, I was a little insulted when handed this with the words, “Mom, this book is so you! It‘s about old lady assassins. You‘ll love it.” I don‘t feel a certain age. But it is really good, and I did love it. “Because she doesn't apologize for anything. She had a rotten start in life, but she's made the best of it. She lives on her own terms. She knows who she is and what she wants, and she does what she is good at. And she has a good time doing it."

The time has come! I‘m so excited to jump into the Cosmere. And to have you all come with me. Here is the reading schedule for the first book. "No." Krampus's voice grew stern. "That is not true. Your dreams are your spirit, your soul, and without them you are dead." He made a fist. "You must guard your dreams. Always. Lest someone steal them from you.”
The is was so good. Tragedy, mythology, crime, humor, horror, fantasy, and love. What more do you want in a holiday story? “Then let us go and be terrible.”

Imagine if Buttercup refused to believe Westley was dead. So she sneaks onboard a pirate ship and sails the twelve seas, that are not wet, because they are made from spores, to save her true love. Tress of the Emerald Sea | Brandon Sanderson

The flu has been kicking my butt this week. I‘m retiring to my bed for the rest of the day. Perfect time for the relaunch of #20in4. This is my first Sanderson and it has been contributing to my weird fever dreams. I am enjoying it though.

All signed up. I have never done this one before. I was always too late. But I made it this time. It sounds really fun. Thanks @monalyisha #Auldlangspine2025

This was a quick and easy read. It was pretty predictable for me, until the twist at the very end. It was one of those great filler books between other books. A good palette cleanser.

Accidentally got lost in a book this afternoon. Time disappeared and I read 40 chapters. If I didn‘t have to stop to make supper I probably would have finished. Maybe I‘ll read instead of sleeping tonight. lol

AmyG I look forward to this. People seem to really enjoy it. 2mo
Chelsea.Poole Love when that happens! 2mo
AshleyHoss820 My Mom liked this one too! It‘s sitting on my shelves now! We usually have different tastes in reading, but I am looking forward to this one. Glad to read that you also enjoyed it! ☺️☺️ 2mo

Held: A Novel | Anne Michaels

I finally had time to watch The Gillers. If Anne Michaels writes as beautifully as she speaks, I‘m really going to have to read Held. I also really want to read Prairie Edge and Curiosities. The TBR just keeps getting bigger.

This was my November first reads choice. I read it in less than an hour. Backman never disappoints me. “I'm ... no expert. But I think most people who want to be happy try to add things to their lives. But really what maybe they should be doing is taking something away."
