The book is about whether we place missiles in Poland pointed at Russia or the Iranians. Since the Polish people say 'no missiles in Poland' that is what Cotton Malone does. He listens to the people of Poland and does what they want even though the president of the US, Warren Fox, wants to place the missiles in Poland. This is a great story and one you should read if you like political books.

#12BooksOf2024 #ChurchillInTheWhiteHouse #RobertSchmuhl #December2024

Winston Churchill visited the White House many times during his two terms as prime minister. He met with FDR and Dwight D. Eisenhower and shaped American foreign policy during the Second World War. He arrived after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He had a great relationship with FDR but not so much with Eisenhower.

EadieB I really did enjoy this book and reading about Churchill. Never knew that he came about fifteen times and stayed in the Rose Room at the White House. He also went a couple of times to Canada and met with the prime minister there. If you like history books then you will love this book. Highly recommended! 2w

Detective Inspector Sean Duffy has a 15 year old girl he is trying to find. He uncovers an underground of men who seem to know her very well. Sean has moved his family to Scotland and will commute.

EadieB He'll take the ferry over and work 7 days a month in order to retire at 20 years with benefits. The plot is clever with terrific characters. This is a standalone novel by Michael Wood. Dawn Shepherd's mother, Rita, is about to reveal to her who her father is. He is about to be released from prison after 20 years incarcerated. Dominic Griffiths murdered Stephanie White who was 13 years old in 1999. She was found in his attic close to her home. Dominic does not remember killing her. He was taking a drug called Fenadine which made

EadieB him do violent things. His early release is due to the drug being found to make people violent. He is receiving 1 million from the drug manufacture and an early release. Dawn wants to meet her father and try to get to know him and is curious if he is a murderer. Does a killer's blood run through Dawn's veins? She goes to visit Dominic's parents to find out what they know about their son. (edited) 3w

Grace and her team are led to Whiteadder House, a Scottish remote wilderness, where residents stay to be cured of alcohol and drug addiction. When a young woman's body is found on a nearby beach, Grace knows she must find out more before another life is lost.

EadieB Could it be linked to the clinic? Are the police being silenced by Big Pharma? This is a fast-paced novel with twists and turns which kept me guessing until the very end. Last To Die by Doug Sinclair ***** 4/29/2024
On a cold New Year‘s Eve night, a young woman lies slumped on a park bench. Snow gathers on her hair. If her glazed eyes were closed, she might be sleeping. Nobody will find her for hours…Thirty years later, in the Scottish town of Livingston, a retired police officer disappears from her home.

EadieB A trail of blood leads from the pensioner‘s doorstep to the edge of the nearby river, and as he follows it, DS Malkie McCulloch fears the worst. But at the end of the trail, instead of an elderly woman, he finds the body of a young man.The deceased is identified as a local criminal, and the case appears to be a robbery gone wrong. But Malkie isn‘t convinced. How did the pensioner overcome the burglar? And where is she now? 3w
EadieB Digging into the former police officer's past, Malkie uncovers a connection with the tragic death of a young woman decades before – and the case is flipped on its head. Is the missing pensioner not as innocent as he‘d assumed? Have skeletons in her closet come back to haunt her? Then another body is found, and the link between the crimes of the past and the present becomes chillingly clear. 3w
EadieB
This is the 2nd book in the series and can be read as a standalone. It's a fast-paced read that is set in Scotland. The plot and characters are enjoyable and the story pulled me in and kept me reading until the very end. The real battle lies in coming home to a changed and divided America, to angry protesters, and a country that wants to forget Vietnam

EadieB Frankie would stop by the VA and go to discussion groups and be told that only men were in Vietnam and fought in the war. Even her parents told her not to talk about the war. Kristin Hannah has written a book about all the women who served in Vietnam. The book is a great tribute to these women and one that should be read by all. Early morning, August 1975: a camp counselor discovers an empty bunk. Its occupant, Barbara Van Laar, has gone missing. And this isn‘t the first time a Van Laar child has disappeared. Barbara‘s older brother similarly vanished fourteen years ago

This is a very interesting book about Elon Musk's mother. She has been a model and a dietitian for many years. At 71 she is still modeling and has written this book about her life. She got married in her early 20's and had 3 children in 3 years. Her eldest son, Elon, at the age of 12 was reading encyclopedias.

EadieB He started a software company called Zip2 with his brother, Kimbal. He was offered a job at Microsoft after they sold their company for 304 million dollars. His mother divorced her husband at age 31 as he was very abusive. She raised her 3 children at poverty levels until Elon and Kimbal told her to buy herself a house and they would pay for it. She decided to move to New York as that was where she was modeling. 2mo

I loved this story by Kate Ellis. All the murders in this story are somewhat linked. 3mo
EadieB I loved how they are tied together as the story is told. Kate Ellis does this as easily as she tells the story. Wesley's wife, Pam, is unhappy with her marriage as Wesley is busy solving the murders. Pam decides after her fling with Jonathan to move on and straighten up and not tell Wesley what was going on. I'm hoping she can keep her secret but I think there will be a consolation in books to come! 3mo

#OnRecord1979 #GBrown #BookSpinBingo #SeriesLove2024 #October2024

This is a very interesting book about the year in music on record 1979. It has 200 rare images of the bands, 100 interviews and insights from the year 1979. The book belongs in the library of every music fan and music institution. It is a great book to put on your coffee table as a reference book.

EadieB I enjoyed reading this book and found a lot of bands and individuals that I was familiar with but also learned about the ones I hadn't known before. I would like to thank Colorado Music Experience and LibraryThing for introducing this book to me. Get a copy of this book to add to your library today! 3mo

Hitchcock Hotel | Stephanie Wrobel
post image
Mehso-so

#TheHitchcockHotel #StephanieWrobel #BookSpinBingo #SeriesLove2024 #October2024

A Hitchcock fanatic with an agenda invites old friends for a weekend stay at his secluded themed hotel in this fiendishly clever, suspenseful new novel. To celebrate the hotel‘s first anniversary, he invites his former best friends from his college Film Club for a reunion. He hasn‘t spoken to any of them in sixteen years.

EadieB The group of characters of old friends are found to be not too popular. There isn't one old friend that I could really care about. I was looking forward to reading about some of the films that Hitchcock wrote. I found this book to be missing the important things that I was interested in. 3mo
EadieB I found this book to be a bit tame for a Hitchcockian mystery and the ending was a little weak. So all in all, I was a bit disappointed in this book. I look forward to reading another book by this author in order to compare her writing to this book. 3mo

#TheBriarClub #KateQuinn #BookSpinBingo #SeriesLove2024 #September2024

A haunting and powerful story of female friendships and secrets in a Washington, D.C. boardinghouse during the McCarthy era. Washington, D.C., 1950. Everyone keeps to themselves at Briarwood House, a down-at-the-heels all-female boardinghouse in the heart of the nation‘s capital, where secrets hide behind white picket fences.

EadieB But when the lovely, mysterious widow Grace March moves into the attic, she draws her oddball collection of neighbors into unlikely friendship: poised English beauty Fliss whose facade of perfect wife and mother covers gaping inner wounds; police officer‘s daughter Nora, who is entangled with a shadowy gangster; frustrated baseball star Bea, whose career has ended along with the women‘s baseball league of WWII; 4mo
EadieB and poisonous, gung-ho Arlene, who has thrown herself into McCarthy‘s Red Scare. The Briar Club women must decide once and for all: Who is the true enemy in their midst? I enjoyed reading this book and found it most interesting. If you like books with female friendships, then you will love this book. I have been a fan of Kate Quinn and love all her novels. 1975 is a time of change in America. The Vietnam War is ending. Mohammed Ali is fighting Joe Frazier. And in the small town of Monta Clare, Missouri, girls are disappearing. A missing person mystery, a serial killer thriller, a love story, a unique twist on each, Chris Whitaker has written a novel about what lurks in the shadows of obsession, and the blinding

I enjoyed reading this book even though it was about the pandemic and covid. Elly met a new neighbor, Zoe, who went missing. Everyone was in locked down and Nelson was home by himself. Michelle was visiting her mother and when Michelle came home she told Nelson that she wants to have a talk. We will need to read the next book in order to find out the results of their talk

EadieB Nelson spent most of the nights through covid with Ruth so Nelson is ready for the talk with Michelle. When Zoe was found her big secret was exposed so you need to read this book in order to find out Zoe's secret. If you love secrets with your mysteries then you will love this book. The Black Loch | Peter May

#TheBlackLoch #PeterMay #BookSpinBingo #SeriesLove2024 #September2024

The body of eighteen-year-old TV personality Caitlin is found abandoned on a remote beach at the head of A Loch Dubh - the Black Loch - on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis. When he learns that his married son Fionnlagh had been having a clandestine affair with the dead girl and is suspected of her murder, he and Marsaili return to try and clear his name.

EadieB I was enjoying reading your new novel, The Black Loch, but found an unnecessary mention of Donald Trump in the book. I feel as though two assassination attempts is reason enough to not mention him in a book. Otherwise, the book is very well written. Although it is read as the 4th book in the trilogy, it is easily read as a standalone. If you like books about a murderer on an island, then you will love reading this book. Highly recommended! Ada Sibelius is homeschooled and raised by David, Her brilliant and socially inept single father, who directs a computer science lab in 1980's era Boston. When his mind begins to falter, she is taken in by one of David's colleagues. She is now on a mission to uncover her father's secrets: a process that takes her from childhood to adulthood. This story is highly emotional.

Heft: A Novel | Liz Moore

#August2024

Arthur Opp weighs 550 pounds and hasn‘t left his rambling Brooklyn home in a decade. Twenty miles away, in Yonkers, seventeen-year-old Kel Keller navigates life as the poor kid in a rich school and pins his hopes on what seems like a promising baseball career. The link between this unlikely pair is Kel‘s mother, Charlene, a former student of Arthur‘s.

EadieB Told with warmth and intelligence through Arthur and Kel‘s own quirky and lovable voices, Heft is the story of two improbable heroes whose connection transforms both their lives. This is a great book about an overweight 550 pound professor and a student who corresponds for 20 yrs. with secrets. She has a son who wants to be a major league baseball player. She is an alcoholic who ends up taking her life. 5mo
EadieB He is searching for his father and then he meets Arthur through his letters. Arthur hires a housekeeper as he is preparing to clean up his house for when Charlene is coming over. His housekeeper, Yolanda, is pregnant and they become friends. It is a wonderful story that is so down to earth that is keeps the pages turning until the very end. I'm now looking forward to the next book from Liz Moore. 5mo

Detective Inspector Sean Duffy has a 15 year old girl he is trying to find. He uncovers an underground of men who seem to know her very well. Can he survive one last case before getting himself and his family out over the water? The writing of this book is well done with plenty of humor. Sean has moved his family to Scotland and will commute.

EadieB He'll take the ferry over and work 7 days a month in order to retire at 20 years with benefits. The plot is clever with terrific characters. If you like humor and wit with your mystery thriller then you will love this book. I'm now looking forward to the next Sean Duffy book. I hope we don't have to wait 6 years for that one! Vera, Joe and Rosie are searching for Josh, a staff member of a residents home. They need to find a 14 year old Chloe Spence to get to the truth. The book moves at a steady pace with multiple POV's from the team members. As usual, Ann Cleeves keeps the story close to her chest so it's hard to figure out what is going on until the very end of the book.

Hillbilly Elegy recounts J.D. Vance‘s powerful origin story….
From a former marine and Yale Law School graduate now serving as a U.S. Senator from Ohio and the Republican Vice Presidential candidate for the 2024 election, an incisive account of growing up in a poor Rust Belt town that offers a broader, probing look at the struggles of America‘s white working class.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book as well as all the books in the trilogy. It's hard to say good bye to the island of Lewis and all the wonderful characters that we met on the island. They all seem like real people to me. Excellent plot which kept the pages turning and lots of surprises at the end. Peter May is one talented writer! read 2/8/15
