A haunting and powerful story of female friendships and secrets in a Washington, D.C. boardinghouse during the McCarthy era. Washington, D.C., 1950. Everyone keeps to themselves at Briarwood House, a down-at-the-heels all-female boardinghouse in the heart of the nation‘s capital, where secrets hide behind white picket fences.

EadieB But when the lovely, mysterious widow Grace March moves into the attic, she draws her oddball collection of neighbors into unlikely friendship: poised English beauty Fliss whose facade of perfect wife and mother covers gaping inner wounds; police officer‘s daughter Nora, who is entangled with a shadowy gangster; frustrated baseball star Bea, whose career has ended along with the women‘s baseball league of WWII; 3mo
EadieB and poisonous, gung-ho Arlene, who has thrown herself into McCarthy‘s Red Scare. The Briar Club women must decide once and for all: Who is the true enemy in their midst? I enjoyed reading this book and found it most interesting. If you like books with female friendships, then you will love this book. I have been a fan of Kate Quinn and love all her novels. This book is very well written. Highly recommended! 3mo

This is April 2022‘s best book. This book is based on a true story. Mila Pavlichenko was a librarian and a history student. During World War II she became the deadliest female sniper during Hitler's invasion of Ukraine and killed over 300 Nazis and was known as Lady Death. She becomes a national heroine and is sent to Washington D.C. on a tour to meet First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.

EadieB This book shows the horrors of war. The characters were believable and seemed very real. The great writing allowed me to picture what Mila was experiencing. The story is told from Mila's POV and official memoir entries with her humorous observations also notes from First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. 2y

Book is about 3 women (Osla, Mab & Beth) who were codebreakers at Bletchley Park during WWII. Kate Quinn did an excellent job of detailed research. Page-turner with great pacing, interesting dialogue & lots of twists & turns. I have read Quinn's Alice Network but need to read The Huntress. Love how Quinn wove the story of Osla who was Prince Phillip's real-life girlfriend into the book. If you love Historical Fiction, you will love this one!

TheAromaofBooks Yay!!! 3y
susurran Loved The Alice Network, Kate Quinn is fantastic. Will have to add this to the TBR pile! 3y

Finished Auntie Poldi last night before crashing - it was cute, but like, my mom is almost 60 and happens to be super-cool...and none of the 60 year-olds I know are nearly as old-seeming as Auntie Poldi seems. She reads WAY older, so that bugged me, acting like 60 is sooooo old and eccentric - but now on to “The Huntress!” I‘ve heard great things about Kate Quinn, so! #thehuntress #katequinn

marleed I finished this up over a week ago and nothing is replacing its status as ‘last favorite‘ read! 6y
actualdisneyprincess @marleed ahhhh that‘s so encouraging!!!! 😍😍 I‘m about 100 pages in and loving it so far!!! 6y
