Coffee and book 5 in the fantastic #SloughHouse series, can't wait to get tucked into this one. If you're a fan of fast-paced spy fiction, this series is some of the best of the genre.

I truly wanted to love this book, and gave it the benefit of not DNFing by about the fourth chapter. But absolutely nothing about this story worked for me; the title inexplicably gives away the mole, the search for whom is powered primarily by an online CIA chat room; I'm sorry, but any double agent stupid enough to leave a digital trail all over a Workplace bulletin board deserves to be caught.
Serious spy fiction aficionados steer clear. D-
Time to cheer myself up with an annual reading of one of my favorite books of all time. The single best work of espionage fiction ever written.
"Her body seemed like enough company. Lately its moods fascinated her. It behaved in new and surprising ways, like a friend she didn't know well yet. Pain and pleasure both had new faces. She was a story being told each minute."
This won't drop in the US until September but Book Twitter has been abuzz about THE LAST HOUSE ON NEEDLESS STREET for weeks and weeks and I just couldn't wait. Thank God Amazon UK delivers to Iowa. Most anticipated read of 2021 thus far.
Only 27 pages into this long-awaited read and already deeply in love with it. Chapter II opens like this:
March is such a fickle month.
It is the seam between winter and spring—though seam suggests an even hem, and March is more like a rough line of stitches sewn by an unsteady hand, swinging wildly between January gusts and June greens. You don‘t know what you‘ll find, until you step outside.
Absolutely loving this book, and thrilled to have such a beautiful signed copy!
Feels appropriate in this moment, as we lose our collective shit over some Redditors shorting a video game box store (FFS), to be reminded that every day we do nothing about climate change we are literally shorting our own future, and the future of our children and theirs. This book is breaking my whole heart and scaring me senseless.
Thoroughly enjoying this book, as I have everything #JamesMcBride has ever written. Beautifully written, funny, heartbreaking. Taking my time to savor the journey.
The right side of my #NEUROMANCER collection, including the first paperback edition (black spine, far right) and the first copy I ever had signed in person by Gibson (far left). No other book has had such a profound impact on my life as NEUROMANCER has.
The left side of my #NEUROMANCER collection, including Brazilian, Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese, and Ukrainian editions. I have a bit of a Neuromancer problem; this is a book that literally changed the world (Gibson coined the term cyberspace, while writing on a typewriter) and changed my life. Almost 30 years in IT now and it all started with NEUROMANCER.
Up early for that Quiet Reading Time before everyone else wakes, cruising through the second book in the Jack McEvoy series. Happy New Year to all my booky friends!
Just discovered that #dorkie and #dogsoflitsy are a thing here so please enjoy this little monster keeping me from reading a truly marvelous book.
About halfway through THE CHALK MAN on audio and thoroughly enjoying both the story and the wonderful narration by Scottish actor Euan Morton. The plot bounces between 1986 and 2016 with a very IT-like vibe, and Morton is able to modulate his performance in the first-person narrative to capture the subtle differences between the young and old protagonist. Mesmerized and eager to finish this fantastic book!
If I were forced to pick my favorite horror epic of all time, it would be a razor-thin win for Dan Simmons's CARRION COMFORT over Stephen King's THE STAND. Brutally, viscerally horrifying, brilliantly plotted and executed, CARRION COMFORT will keep you awake late into the night and leave you marveling at its incredibly satisfying conclusion. This is the book that defines the Payoff Ending, a must-read for horror fans!
One of the prides of my first edition collection, this hand-drawn sketch in my hardcover copy of Clive Barker's phenomenal IMAJICA always delights me. If you haven't read this epic of the imagination from one of the most beautiful prose stylists to ever work in horror and fantasy fiction, you're missing an absolute miracle of storytelling. Five stars, one of my favorite books of all time.
And then there was the unsettling fact that, despite whatever my mother might claim, the bullies, cheats, and self- promoters seemed to be doing quite well, while those she considered good and decent people seemed to get screwed an awful lot.
