Bookwormjillk Up early to drive my son to work them coming home to drink all the tea and read all the books. Shopping with my daughter later. 1d
Sace I confess I started my week in an irritable mood despite having Monday off. The skies were gray and I had been people-ing too much. I‘m feeling better now. My only plans today are grocery shopping, haircut, lunch and reading. 1d
Read4life We‘re still in the USVI taking care of my father in law. There was no change with him this week. We were able to get to the beach 4 days this week. This weekend we‘re going to spend time with my mother in law and her husband. In spite of the stressful reason we‘re here, we are getting some wonderful time with family. 1d

AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk a perfect day. What are you reading? 23h
AllDebooks @Sace sounds tough but at least you can have a pamper day indulging in what you want to do. Enjoy x 23h

AllDebooks I'm hibernating today, with a stack of books. It's so cold today ❄️ 23h
Bookwormjillk @AllDebooks a very long Udolpho chapter then back to 23h
AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk I'm working up to that. 😅 Atm, I'm completely absorbed in 23h
DogMomIrene It‘s been raining and will keep raining here for next several days, so I‘m prepped for some doggy snuggles with my ebook. And audiobook time when we go downstairs to the basement to play some indoor fetch. 22h
Daisey I‘ve got another weekend at home full of fall projects and school work. I also hope to fit in some good reading time. 22h
AllDebooks @DogMomIrene 🐾 Sounds lovely 🐾 21h
AllDebooks @Daisey wishing you a creative, productive weekend. 21h
TheBookHippie @DogMomIrene rain here too every single day. Although it‘s usually snow! 20h
TheBookHippie @Read4life sending love. 20h
TheBookHippie Just trying to catch up on rest. I‘ve not slept much in 10 days. 20h
Read4life @TheBookHippie Thank you! 💙 Sending some positive vibes your way. I hope you can get some good sleep soon. ❤️ 19h
Read4life @AllDebooks 💙💙💙 19h
AllDebooks @TheBookHippie yikes, that's bad. Hope you catch up on some 💤 soon x 18h
Faranae A week of insomnia, so I'm way behind on everything, but at least my stream reading has been going great (although an entire 30 minutes of my silly Don Quixote voice has left my vocal cords shredded oops). Going to try to get the two last Amelia Edwards stories I need to finish this weekend for the epub I'm making. Also skimming the diary of Gideon Mantell. 17h
DogMomIrene @TheBookHippie I‘d love snow, but we just got some flurries that didn‘t stick😮‍💨 Hope you get some sleep! 15h

😱 5🌟

Bloody hell!!! I listened to this amazing piece of analysis from Trump's only niece. She has the perfect ringsize seat to unpick all the damaging seams of this incredibly dysfunctional family. Not only as a direct witness but also a clinical psychologist, gives her the insight to provide a clarifying portrayal of Donald Trump.

What a family!!!

Leftcoastzen I loved this book ! She still works hard to spread the warnings 3d
AllDebooks @Leftcoastzen I'm going to track down her other books too. 3d
Suet624 Despite not wanting to hear anything about him I folded a year or so ago and read this. I thought she did a great job. And what a family. 3d

The Tree A Day | Amy-Jane Beer
post image

🌳 I'm going to try something new for #NaturaLitsy 2025. A 5 minute #dailyread to press pause, soothe the soul and maybe learn something new or interesting. 🌳

I've chosen A Tree A Day by Amy-Jane Beer, purely because there are tree species, art, history, hopefully a little something for all. My intention is to have a no-pressure, take what you need from it, vibe.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts.

#Naturalitsy

This fantastic book has been published in the US this week, under the title Vanishing Treasures. The author is donating 💯 author royalties, in perpetuity, to climate change charities.
I highly recommend it and it makes for a beautiful gift. Go buy multiple copies. 😊

Oh my, this is a gripping thriller for a winter night. I read it in one sitting. The plot centres around 3 separate locked-room mysteries, with the tension persistantly ramped up. This occurs during a global pandemic.
Highly recommended. ❄️😱❄️

DogMomIrene 👏🏼 I‘ve got this one on my #10BeforeTheEnd list. Sounds really good! 4d
AllDebooks @DogMomIrene it really is. I've read and enjoyed all of her books. She's incredibly talented. Enjoy ❄️ 4d

DogMomIrene @AllDebooks Adding to my “to be watched after I read” list. I read her vampire in Alaska book and loved it. She may be another auto read author for me. 4d
DogMomIrene @AllDebooks I really liked it, and I‘m not a big fan of vampire books. I don‘t hate them, but they‘re not a top ten plot choice for me. I do love serial killer detective books and setting this one in a small town really worked for me. I haven‘t read anything else by her, so I can‘t compare the twisty factors, but I had a lot of fun reading. Checking GR dates, I finished within 3 days, which is fast for me. 3d

Time for a much needed #SaturdayChatterday

Well, what a week it's been for everyone. How are you feeling? This is a safe space to chat about whatever is on your mind.
All welcome to join in.

@Catsandbooks @TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit @Librarybelle @IndoorDame @Cuilin @dabbe @BarkingMadRead @Eggs

AllDebooks I've taken refuge in books this week. The real world has been too much. 1w
Librarybelle I found I wanted to read last night, which it‘s been a few days since I really could. There‘s been a lot on my mind, and Heather Cox Richardson‘s post this morning puts it into words so eloquently. She‘s an amazing political historian who bases everything she says on facts and history. But, this weekend is usual routines, with Sunday being a family get together. These checkins are so nice. Thank you! ❤️ 1w
Bookwormjillk Happy Saturday. I have a busy week next week so I have to do some prep this weekend. I also have been doing some research for books to read next year which is fun. 1w
See All 27 Comments
Cuilin What a week! there‘s never been a time in my life where I prefer audiobooks to reading, but I did this week. All I wanted to do was curl up and listen to David Copperfield‘s life. Today I‘m going Providence RI to get my daughter for the long weekend. 1w
Cuilin @Librarybelle H Cox Richardson is amazing. 1w
DogMomIrene @Librarybelle @Cuilin I may need to suck it up and subscribe/pay for H Cox Richardson‘s substack. @Suet624 mentioned her to me. I‘ve tried Substack before and was overwhelmed by the number of emails I received. Wondering what you all would say the average read time is for her posts? Under ten minutes? Like could I make her a daily morning read with coffee? And then continue coffee with Litsy time (obviously 😉) 1w
Cuilin @DogMomIrene I follow her on TikTok. 1w
Suet624 @DogMomIrene @Librarybelle - I've followed Heather for years. You can read her on Facebook but the simplest method is subscribing on Substack. You don't have to pay for it if you don't want to. She is also doing an audio version if you're interested in that. It comes out later in the day. Did you see the post she wrote the day after the election? And her posts generally take less than 10 minutes to read. 1w
Librarybelle @DogMomIrene @Suet624 @Cuilin I just started following her on FB, after reading the reposts friends would do! I also heard her speak a few weeks ago at a virtual event, and I was struck by how articulate and knowledgeable she is. I have her books and really need to read them. I agree with @Suet624 …it takes me less than 10 minutes to read her posts. 1w
AllDebooks @Librarybelle How have I never heard of her? I'll be checking out her posts. Thank you. Knowledge is power! Honestly, these #chatterdays are a blessing and it's so much fun to check in. 1w
AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk it's always fun to plan future reads. I hope your prep gies well. 1w
AllDebooks @Cuilin Same! I've found them better at quietening the mind. And I've certainly needed that. Enjoy your long weekend and have a safe trip. 1w
AllDebooks @DogMomIrene I've just followed her FB page 1w
AllDebooks I have to say Litsy has been a lifeline this week. I've avoided other socials and news, cos it was too much. I've never felt so overwhelmed. The love and compassion of Littens has been a source of comfort. I've never known on an online community that is so supportive of each other. Thank you #Littens 😊 1w
AllDebooks I'm spending the weekend on planning #MidwinterSolace I think we're really going to need it. And it will run thru Dec and Jan again. ❄️❤️❄️ 1w
TheBookHippie Well considering people I love and even some on here voted against my being it‘s 😵‍💫. The people being really quiet because they don‘t dare say hate out loud and actually do know how dangerous it is now for me, and my students especially, (and a large population of people that live in the US) is hard to digest. I‘m not trying to be divisive. It‘s truth. So I‘m grappling with that this morning. (edited) 1w
TheBookHippie @AllDebooks 💙💙💙💙💙 1w
AllDebooks @TheBookHippie I couldn't sleep last night after reading Project 2025 earlier in the day. 1w
TheBookHippie @AllDebooks I read it long ago. It‘s terrifying. 1w
AllDebooks @TheBookHippie it really is. I'd readnewspaper reports but the actual document is so much more sinister abd divisive 1w
DogMomIrene @Suet624 @Cuilin @Librarybelle @AllDebooks @TheBookHippie Thank you Littens! I‘m following her on Substack with notifications through the app only, which will pair nicely with some Litsy coffee time while keeping my email a little less jumbled. Already read her 11/8 post and I‘m all in. 1w
Suet624 @DogMomIrene 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 1w
Suet624 @TheBookHippie Ugh. I know. Thank you for sharing the truth. 1w
kspenmoll Litsy has been my safety net. Taking it easy after election fallout. Talking with like minded friends has helped. Just reading & walking today. Nature soothes me. Trying to keep the terror at bay. 1w
dabbe Thanks for the tag, @MaleficentBookDragon. 😘 I just have to say it: what a fucking week. I also picked a great week to have a dental implant removed--plus finding out I had a pretty bad infection. Just the cherry on the banana split that reeks of mold. But ... the sun keeps rising, and the earth keeps spinning. And this is a place of solace and healing. Thanks, Littens. #onedayatatime 💙 1w
Catsandbooks Feeling overwhelmed, enraged, and exhausted. Been watching a lot of hallmark Christmas movies. My plan for the rest of the year is to really lean into all things comfort and cozy. I just wanna stay in and not deal with people. 1w

November's #LosersClub #buddyread was a very atmospheric read. Very creepy, disturbing but thrilling read. It's my 1st time reading this and it's one of his best horror books.
I particularly enjoyed the nod to Bram Stoker with the epistolary record of Charles Boone, 1850. It certainly added more context to the longevity of evil at 'Salem's Lot.

And Still I Rise | Maya Angelou

Yes, hope is battered and bruised because she's always the last one standing. Never, ever, bloody ever give up.
Given the state of the world we live in now and what's to come, I've decided that my reading theme for 2025 will be politics and current affairs. I aim to be more informed, more politically active on a local, national and global front, supporting communities and holding true to my firm belief of a fair, equal and just society for all.

Bookwormjillk I love this. I look forward to your reviews. I tried to read about global warming this year and want to continue next year. 1w
AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk having an annual theme really helps focus my reading and learning. I can't say enjoy your deep dive into global warming as it is such a worrying subject. Make sure you balance it out with stories of hope like rewilding and regeneration 🙂 1w

psalva I‘ve got few words in this moment, so all I can say is I‘m with you. 1w
Librarybelle ❤️❤️❤️ 1w
Megabooks I've read more books about politics and political history this year than I have in years (maybe since my poll sci degree). I've also done a deep dive into ex-vangelicals. As much as I want to put my head in the sands at times, I'm glad to have spent this year engaged and learning. Like you, I hope to continue it into the future. Excited to see what you read! 1w
BarbaraJean Yesssss. I posted a poem yesterday that has this same perspective on hope—it‘s called “Hope Is Not a Bird, Emily, It‘s a Sewer Rat” by Caitlin Seida. That‘s the kind of hope I need right now. Tough and tenacious. (edited) 1w
kspenmoll Thank you for this.💛 1w
AllDebooks @Megabooks I've checked my Kindle sociopolitical folder and there's almost 150 titles I've accumulated without realising. Do you have any recommendations? 1w
AllDebooks @BarbaraJean ❤️ I'll check out the poem. 1w
Bookwormjillk @AllDebooks yes balance is the key. I also want to read more about social media and how it‘s influencing people. 1w
AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk that's on my list, too. When I've finished it, I'll post a document link to my planned reading. Happy for anyone to join me. I'll be using it for my #Roll100 2025 list @PuddleJumper 1w
Megabooks Foreign Agents and The Wolves of K Street were released this year and give a good overview of lobbying by outside and inside forces. The Kingdom, The Power, and The Glory by Tim Alberta is one of the best books I've read about Christian Nationalism. Homegrown by Jeffery Toobin about McVeigh was interesting from a historical perspective. The Undocumented Americans is great. The Color of Law is a great look at redlining. 1w
Megabooks Autocracy Inc. is a short but powerful look at networks of dictators around the globe. Red and Blue by Kornacki is a good look at the 1990s origins of modern political tribalism. They Came for Our Schools is an interesting look at school censorship and how it affects teachers and students. The Quiet Damage about QAnon and the families it affects was fascinating and sad. Fancy Bear Goes Fishing explores Russian cybercrimes. 1w
Megabooks Jesus and John Wayne is another good perspective on the history of Christian Nationalism. I hope you find a couple of these interesting!! 1w

Night and Day | Virginia Woolf
post image

#VirginiaBloomsberries

I feel quite disappointed that I'm only just getting around to her work this late in life. Thank goodness, I've started now.
Anyway, let's talk about Night and Day?

☕️ Did you enjoy Woolf's intricate examination of romantic entanglements in 1920s London?
☕️ Did you like her characters? Does anyone stand out?
☕️ Do you think Woolf captured the changing societal times of post war England?

AnishaInkspill I read this a few years back and enjoyed parts of it but if I read this again, I would enjoy it more as there are many scenes that I can recall better than other books. Knowing little about that historical time, I can imagine the journey both Mary and Katherine are true of that time. 2w
AllDebooks @AnishaInkspill I was completely surprised at how funny it was. Woolf sure does give good satire. I thoroughly enjoyed it. 2w
AllDebooks I've never come across such a fickle character as William. His constant dramas were exhausting. As for backup plans, he did remind me of Austen's Mr Collins a lot! 2w
AnishaInkspill @AllDebooks yeah, Woolf's sense of humour is a surprise, have you read her Flush: a biography? if not I won't say anything more and let you read it whenever you get a chance. 2w

kspenmoll I am up early for a weekend- 5:30- this is a lovely spot to say Happy Saturday all! My day is meeting an old friend for coffee, errands, laundry(porch pillows, slowly putting porch items away), a walk, then hoping for a night of reading. Right now I am enjoying my first cup of coffee, oatmeal with milk & maple syrup, with Emmy curled up on my lap. 📘☕️🥣🐾 I wish everyone a wonderful day. (edited) 3w

Sace @kspenmoll Sounds like you have a busy day ahead. I only have the grocery store and lunch with my husband in the to do list. Dewey‘s 24 hour readathon starts at 7 my time so I‘m hoping to get a long stretch of reading in. I won‘t make 24 hours but I‘ll get *some* reading in. 3w
Librarybelle Happy Saturday! I‘m getting over a cold, so moving a little slow this weekend. I have my usual cleaning routine plus a few other things to take care of that cropped up. But, like @Sace , I hope to do some reading for the Dewey readathon today. 3w
AllDebooks @Sace ☕️👌Soynds like you have a blissful day planned. Enjoy your lunch x 3w
AllDebooks @kspenmoll putting away the outdoor furniture is the only thing I don't like about autumn. It's far too damp here to leave it. We have mist or fog most mornings. Enjoy your reading. x 3w

AllDebooks I'm actually feeling very sorry for myself. Just spent 3 months getting better and starting to feel more like myself. I've now got shingles! MOTHERTRUCKER!!!🤬 I would be grateful for any distraction from the pain as it's a bloomin big ouchy. Any recs? 3w
AllDebooks On the plus side, I've had plenty of reading time. Just need to catch up on my scores now for #HauntedShelf 3w

Sace @Daisey that sounds lovely. 3w
Sace @AllDebooks thanks! We have a favorite Thai restaurant that we go to every Saturday. 3w
Cuilin @AllDebooks oh sorry Deb that‘s awful. Ugh I have been listening to BBC‘s radio plays Rumpole. They‘re such a good balance of light and fun with a little sprinkling of mystery. I‘ve been listening to them last thing at night, delightful. I‘m almost done and I will definitely miss them. I found them on Audible but they‘re probably on BBC player or something. Oh, and some of them are played by Benedict Cumberbatch. Hope you feel better soon. X 3w
AllDebooks @Cuilin thanks, that sounds perfect. I'll check it out. x 3w
dabbe So sorry to read about your shingles, @AllDebooks. I hope your reading is providing plenty of distraction. 🖤🧡🖤 Today in Phoenix, it will be 96º F (36º C), so we're STILL staying inside and relaxing after our relaxing week up in pine country. Hoping for a power day tomorrow, though. Hope everyone has a lovely day--whatever you're doing! 🤩 3w

Happy #SaturdayChatterday 😊

☕️ Are you having a good weekend?

☕️ What are your plans for next week?
☕️ Any recommendations - books, places, films/tv shows etc?

IndoorDame I‘m going to be catching up on my buddy reads that I‘ve fallen behind on this weekend, and hopefully sneaking in some housekeeping. I keep starting tv shows that seem promising then getting bored after a few episodes. My newest is Aquarius, which reminds me of a retro cop show version of Emma Cline‘s The Girls. Hhhhmm, I found this quite irritating on a few levels. I didn't connect with any character, didn't feel the enlightenment. It was a disappointment as I adored her other 2 books.
However, the writing is good. I think this is a bit of a hit and miss with a lot of people.
