For a few years I made a concerted effort to watch as many of the nominees as possible, but even with that I only managed 30/116; some were pretty memorable though.
1. Philomena 😭
2. Lion😭
3. Get Out 😱
4. Barbie 🩷🩷

I have been enjoying this series immensely and this novella (#3.5 in the series) is no exception. The combination of mystery, historical fiction, time travel and the hint of romance meets all my wants for a fun read. This one had Mallory taking the lead in a case and had her meeting up with Charles Dickens. I highly recommend starting with the first in the series “A Rip Through Time“. 4.25/5 stars

robinb I ❤️ this series too! 😊 5d
Mpcacher @robinb They are so much fun. I have the next one (“Death at a Highland Wedding“) waiting for me as well. I am obviously looking forward to it, but have a bunch to read before then. 4d
robinb @Mpcacher That‘s so funny…I have that one waiting on me as well! 😂 Too many books, so little time. 😔 3d
Mpcacher @robinb So true! 2d

Pickpick

A peaceful demonstration against nuclear power turns violent and ends with a police officer dead. Superintendent Burgess, whose interrogation tactics are intimidating & brutal, is sent in to head the investigation. Banks tries to work around him to maintain his positive relationships & solve the murder. Add an ex-hippie community, twists, turns, & a surprise ending & we have another series winner. #serieslove2025 #3

Weird Walk #3 features an interview with author Andrew Michael Hurley and the use of walking through the British landscape in his novels, a dolmen "review" and the Uffington White Horse, and a really interesting piece on the history and folklore of beer and ale. ⬇️

Bookwomble The article on psychedelic folk music introduced me to the excellent album The Garden of Jane Delawney by Trees:

#5JoysFridays Happy Friday All!! 🩷😊🫶🏽 1) reading everyone‘s posts and reviews has put me in a sleepy trance- which is good!!!👍🏽 because I was in a lot of pain before I clicked on Litsy, I‘m comfortable, but now I have to pee. 2) so far I have taken on this recovery from a back procedure with no pain meds and only a little ice. 3) my mom saying I am acting like a toddler because of the looks I give her every time she tells me to do something

Mimi28 4) all of the yummy books on my bed 5) all of the well wishes and encouragement I have gotten in response to my back procedure. 6) you guys!!! 🩷😊🫶🏽🤗 love you all!! 7) my faith which I realized at #3 should have been #1) as always but I didn‘t feel like re-doing this. You guys should assume my faith is #1) in my heart anyway. @DebinHawaii 2w

Lesliereadsalot I saw 79/100. Favorites include Nashville(loved the music and the characters), Coming Home (which I saw at the movies 17 days in a row, obsessed would be putting it mildly) and Midnight Express (scared me to death). 2w
Eggs 🩵💜💙 2w
Amor4Libros I got 10 this time!! 😂 2w
shortsarahrose 29 - I was pretty good on ones from the 1960s/70s, but not the ‘80s 2w
TheSpineView Thanks for the tag! 🥰💛🏷 2w
Deblovestoread Thanks for the tag! Will do 🥰 2w
BooksandCoffee4Me 30% but how fun to be reminded of the movies “Heaven Can Wait” and “Goodbye Girl!” 💛 2w
BooksandCoffee4Me @Lesliereadsalot Wow! “Coming Home” was so intense — how did seeing it so many times in two weeks affect you emotionally? 2w
DGRachel LOL. I‘ve heard of a ton of these but have only watched 10. Clearly, I dislike Academy Award winners as much as I dislike fancy book award winners. 🤣🤣 2w
dabbe @melissajayne I adore ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN. I've read the book numerous times, too! Thanks for playing and sharing. 📽️🍿🎬 2w

dabbe @DGRachel You're in good company either way! 🤩 Thanks for playing and sharing. 📽️🍿🎬 2w
Lesliereadsalot I really had been oblivious to the Vietnam War and after seeing Coming Home the first time, I couldn‘t believe the war was going on around me and I felt compelled to see it over and over. I didn‘t know anybody who went to Vietnam, my parents never discussed it, it was so foreign to me. I‘ve never before or since felt so intensely about a movie. Totally blew me away! @BooksandCoffee4Me 2w
dabbe @Lesliereadsalot Thanks for sharing that. I was oblivious, too, and still have so much to learn about that tumultuous period. I never saw COMING HOME (added to my TBW list now) but BORN ON THE 4TH OF JULY at least made me more aware. That and GOOD MORNING, VIETNAM. The humor helped. 😊 2w
BooksandCoffee4Me @Lesliereadsalot @dabbe I‘ve made a point of sincerely thanking veterans for serving. Saw a biker wearing a Viet Nam Vet jacket and stopped where he was and thanked him. He teared up and looked so surprised. They received so little when they returned. It shouldn‘t have taken a decade or two to thank them with the wall. I was in middle school during the war and now have known many Nam vets. Most do not want to share their stories. 2w
dabbe @BooksandCoffee4Me They bravely did their job and received nothing but hatred from most of us. Shameful. 😞 2w
Lesliereadsalot Very shameful! Our boys did not belong there. I‘ve seen all the Vietnam movies but Coming Home made the biggest impression as it‘s about the soldiers when they got back. You have to imagine what it was like for them and it‘s not a pretty picture. You guys are very thoughtful! @dabbe @BooksandCoffee4Me 🩷🩷 2w
BookmarkTavern Thanks for the tag! 2w
peaKnit 26! I have rewatched All The President‘s Men so many times I should count it twice! :) and on Golden Pond, such sweet memories watching this one. 🥰 2w
dabbe @Lesliereadsalot So are you! 🩵💙🩵 2w
dabbe @peaKnit #ditto feelings on both of your choices. I've just reread and rewatched ALL THE PRESIDENT'S to bring me comfort in this chaotic mess of a country we're currently living in. As @AmyG put it, Goldberg is our Woodward & Bernstein. 👊🏻 2w
peaKnit Amen! 2w
TheLudicReader 53/100. Did you know Children of a Lesser God was filmed in my hometown? Fun fact! So many flicks I love on that list but also so many flicks I am now too old to accurately remember whether I *actually* saw them or not. 🤣 2w
dabbe @TheLudicReader How cool is that? Is your hometown not St. John? I loved that movie, though I read that Hurt was an unbelievable jerk to Marlee Matlin while in a relationship with her. And I say if you wondered, you saw it! Thanks for playing and sharing. 📽️🍿🎬 2w
TheLudicReader @dabbe, I am not sure I understand your question about St. John. 🤣 My hometown is Saint John (as you know). St. John's is in Newfoundland. But Children of a Lesser God was filmed here in the 80s. 2w
dabbe @TheLudicReader I learn something new every day. 😊 I had no idea that St. was always spelled out. Now I know, thanks to you! I guess it threw me when you said just “hometown“, so I thought that maybe you grew up somewhere else in Canada besides Saint John. No excuse for me not knowing--except that I am more forgetful these days. (edited) 2w

January 2025 Book #3
I enjoyed this Christmas cozy mystery first book but didn‘t love it. Quite predictable, not at the beginning but in the middle of the story. Too slow but it is the first book in the series and I think it introduced well the characters. 2nd book in this series was chosen for #CBBC this year round so I decided to read book one first to continue with book 2😃👍 @Mommamanzi 2.8/3⭐️

Tomorrow I need to do the sleeve buttonholes, topstitch the lapels, and press the shit out of it. Then my tweed jacket is finally done!

To be honest, I didn‘t listen to a TON of DEADHOUSE GATES while I worked because the last week has all been fiddly handsewn stuff I wanted to focus on—and because, unpopular opinion coming up, I liked GARDENS OF THE MOON more than this one. Still, I‘m invested enough to tackle #3 in due course. #audiosewing

xicanti Please pardon my dummy‘s bra. Whoever made it assumed no one on this earth has ever had breasts bigger than a smallish B-cup (an assumption shared by many fashion designers, which is a big part of why I started sewing in the first place) and this is the only way I can properly test the drape. 1mo
