Jenn works at a University, a professor is killed, a student (Mia) is the main suspect. Jenn and a few co-workers decide to help Mia and solve the case. In the process, Jenn and the the university psychologist develop feelings for one another. The romance was tedious, characters underdeveloped, and motive for the murder was weak. It has a lot of potential to be a good cozy - it just fell short in my book 😉

5 stories of people going to see Mrs. Komachi, the librarian, who recommends books that each person “needs“. They are books that help each person find purpose/meaning in their work and/or their life. After the first story you realize what is going to happen for each person, that didn't bother me because it was such a sweet and timely reminder, and so well written. Overall, a good (and comforting) read.

Horowitz is writing the last book with Hawthorne, based on a case Hawthorne worked several years earlier - a man was murdered in a wealthy neighborhood, everyone had a motive. Hawthorne was working with a man named Dudley as his sidekick, who Horowitz replaced in a way. The mystery and the side story of Horowitz and Hawthorne are good, as always. ⬇️

Added a few more books to my current reading list - going for the #BookSpinBingo this month! With very cold weather and holiday I think I'll have a little more reading time than usual.

Phoebe's life takes a turn when she becomes part of Lila and Gary's wedding party. This story is about finding meaning in one's life, finding direction, finding friends, finding value in yourself, being true to yourself - so many things. The story went in the direction I assumed it would, but took an interesting road to get there. Overall a very good book.

Lora is still playing pretend and her friends are out growing that game. She meets Alexa, an imaginary friend/ghost. The story's theme is about being yourself, holding on to the magic of childhood. Graphics good, story concept good. Overall, a good read.

I enjoyed all of the Kimball/Kintner series. In this last book Lily is asked by an old college friend (Martha) to investigate her husband as Martha thinks he is a serial killer. Another college friend (Ethan) shows up again in Lily's life also. Lily asks Henry for help on this one. Overall a very good read and a very good series.

A group of senior citizens take on the task of saving the community center (which also houses a daycare, AA meetings, and other groups). It is a humorous (with moments of sadness) look at an aging group of people who become friends and allies. Overall, a very good read.

Guy and Bruno meet on a train. Bruno decides to kill someone for Guy, then Guy is supposed to kill someone for Bruno. Excellently written examination of descent in alcoholism, manipulation, guilt and murder. Overall, a very good read.

Lori's boys say they have seen a vampire - she investigates with help from Kit and Aunt Dimity. Lori uncovers the truth to several other mysteries and the identity of the vampire. The last few chapters were very good (the heart of the story). Overall, a good cozy read. ⬇️(for added thoughts)

Gamache, Beauvoir, and Lacoste are back in Three Pines to investigate a murder of a much hated art critic, while recovering from events that are discussed in last book. Clara, Peter, Myrna, Ruth, Gabri and Olivier play a part in this one as well. Each book in the series gets better - character development is fantastic. Overall, an excellent read.

Cozies are a hit or miss for me - I either like the MC/town/townspeople or I don't and it has to be cozy but not Scooby-Doo cozy. This was a miss. MC a miss and too Scooby-Doo.

Eve (MC) and Charlie buy a house to flip - Thomas, who used to live there, stops by with his family to show his kids where he grew up. Everything changes after that. Is this what a descent into madness looks like, or are there really alternate universes? I was scared, tense and captivated the entire read. I loved how the story unfolded and ended. Overall, a very good thriller!

Gamache is in Quebec City working on a murder case unofficially and he has Beauvoir go to Three Pines, unofficially, to look into the murder of the Hermit to see if Olivier was wrongly convicted (last book). Both officers are recovering from a devastating case which left several officers dead. The best in the series so far- overall, an excellent read.

1. Yes I am a planner in terms of getting activities on calendar (i.e. dinner, walking, movie get togethers, vacation dates, school activities) I try not to plan outcome of activity (i.e. it will be great or awful or best trip ever)

Arthur, an antiques dealer, is murdered, he leaves his friends Freya and Carole clues to find the murderer. All of it is related to the antiques trade. Part of the clues will help Freya resolve issues she had with Arthur before he died. It was an interesting and quick read. Overall a good cozy.

After her mother dies and she loses the farm, Mary Yellan moves in with her aunt Patience and uncle Joss at the Jamaica Inn. Mary meets Joss's brother Jem and the Vicar. Something shady is going on at the Inn and Mary is going to find out what. Overall, the writing is beautiful, the story is good - I just could not connect right now.

Ken, the MC, has dissociative identity disorder, and she “awakes“ to find she is the caretaker for a house on an island. Her “headmates“ are interesting characters. Based on book description, a murder occurs and Ken is a suspect. 23% in and just now getting to the island. Concept is really unique but too slow for me. It feels like a chore to pick up. Moving on.
