The Book of Koli | M. R. Carey

Since Animal Crossing came out I‘ve only read *checks spreadsheet* TWO BOOKS so I thought I might do a bit of a reading challenge to get me back in the book groove. Each book choice here is inspired by a class taught at Hogwarts, but I‘ve sort of... forced some books to fit. (I‘m not proud of how I “sorted” Megahex but I felt I want to read it!) Can you tell which book is for which class?

This book is out today!!! Hooray!!! I read this egalley a few weeks ago and fell deep in love with this story. It's a dark, wild ride--as I read it, I had to keep my husband updated on the plot because he was dying to know how the story ended. Highly recommend!

Do you ever just sit and stare at your messy bookshelves and think, "hmm, I should definitely straighten these up, maybe weed out some books" and then just keep staring at your shelves, not moving, except to grab your laptop and look up prices for a Hermione POP figure? Yeah me neither.

Tnovo I think your bookshelves look wonderful and perfect! I just grabbed a Mary Poppins pop figure this morning 👍😂 8y

This was a really good read. Unfortunately for me, I definitely bought into the hype waaay too much, so even though it was a great book, I felt a little disappointed. I think everyone should absolutely give this a go, but wait a bit until the hype has settled down. Has anyone else finished this, and what did you think?

stargazerblue49 Waiting for my hold on the audiobook to come in - I think it's going to be a while, hah! It will be my first George Saunders experience , so I'm not sure what I'm expecting! 8y
Suet624 Powell's is sending it to me soon as part of their book subscription box. Looking forward to it. 8y
Donna_sBookMinute Funny how that works, huh? Waiting for the hype to die down. If I'm not sure I would want to find a place for a new release on my shelves, I wait for it to hit the library. 8y

wisebravegirl @stargazerblue49 that audiobook is going to be amazing, I think I'll try to get a copy from my own library! 8y
wisebravegirl @Suet624 oh, that's fun! I love the idea of Powell's subscription box! 8y
wisebravegirl @Donna_sBookMinute very wise! I typically don't buy books on release date unless I'm convinced I'll love it--I don't regret buying this one, but I definitely agree that you should wait for a library copy juuust in case. 8y
Suzze I haven't listened to an audio book in years, but this one makes me want to do it! 8y
Skeebies05 This was my first Saunders book. I thought it was cool but not amazing. I was the first to snag the audio at the library though :) 8y
wisebravegirl @Suzze I've never successfully listened to an audiobook, but I have a good feeling about this one. :) 8y

Northanger Abbey is the only Jane Austen I've read! What's your favorite Austen?

Helly I always loved Emma, I could identify with her somehow...maybe doing the wrong thing for the right reasons :) 8y
kim.guernsey I've read Emma and Sense and Sensibility so limited input but liked Emma very much... I think I need to dedicate myself to reading more Austen though. 8y
Literati86 Pride and Prejudice - it's the only one of her books I've ever read. I've tried the others but none of them hit me like P&P. Elizabeth Bennett is just so modern and amazing. ❤ 8y
See All 24 Comments
Branwen I know this is an unpopular answer...but Mansfield Park is my absolute favorite Austen book. ♡♡♡ Any other Mansfield Park fans out there? Also...those editions are GORGEOUS! Where did you find them? 8y
JBarr I do love Pride and Prejudice but I recently re-read Persuasion and I just LOVED it. 8y
rubyslippersreads It's hard to choose--Pride and Prejudice and Emma are my top favorites. Those are lovely copies. 😍😍😍 8y
saresmoore Northanger Abbey and Lady Susan are my favorites, but I've read P&P, Mansfield Park, and Emma more times than I can remember! Beautiful covers! 8y
danimgill These covers! 😍😍😍 My favorite Austen has always been Persuasion, but Pride and Prejudice is a close second. Northanger Abbey is great! 8y
mcipher Confession - I've never read any Austen. Maybe this is my year, I'm trying to expand my horizons! These covers are gorgeous. 8y
Reviewsbylola Those are amazing. 💕💕💕 I've read them all and loved them all (except I thought S&S was just ok) but my very favorites would have to be Emma and Mansfield Park. 8y
MrsAHintz This is absolutely beautiful! 💕 I've read them all but my absolute favorite will forever be Pride and Prejudice. 💕 8y
Elisa Emma is probably my favorite, though I really enjoyed Lady Susan, too. Reading S&S now, and I agree with @Reviewsbylola, it's ok — it's dragging a bit, taking me forever to finish. Have also read Persuasion and P&P and enjoyed both. Planing to make my way through a few more of her works this year! Those editions you've got there are simply gorgeous 😍 8y

hwheaties I love that place. Can't wait to go back/go to the other one in Florida! 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag Mmm! Yes! I've been to the one in Florida and left my rational self that asks questions like 'is that going to fit in your suitcase?', 'is that too heavy for your suitcase?' And 'when would you use that?' At the hotel 😂 8y
dariazeoli I went six years ago and had such a good time. I need to go back now that it's expanded! 8y

wisebravegirl @dariazeoli @hwheaties I think the expansion (that's Diagon Alley, right?) is even more spectacular than Hogsmeade. The whole thing was just amazing though! 8y
wisebravegirl @thegirlwiththelibrarybag haha yes!!! I hemmed and hawed over a lot of merchandise and my husband just kept saying "buy it, who knows when we'll be back?" Such an enabler!! Temer.toktabek One of the best books I've read. One hell of a trip to the elephant factory and back 8y

My husband and I are beyond obsessed with this musical. I can't recall my life before Hamilton. Did I listen to other music before this? Probably, but I don't remember it.

Leelee08 ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 8y
abbiereadsbooks I've got tickets to see it in Chicago in January and I CANNOT WAIT! 8y

BekahB I got October tickets in Chicago! I'm so excited! I've wanted to read this but I don't know if I should before or after the show. 8y
MrsAlexanderHamilton I have tickets in NYC before New Year's and in Chicago in February for my birthday! I've been studying Alexander Hamilton for about seven years now. I'm a member of the AHA Society. If it's Hamilton, I know it or have it. This musical has been a godsend. Now I can sing SONGS about my number one man. 8y
Laalaleighh It should come with an addiction warning! Sooooo good!! 8y
wisebravegirl @BekahB hmm, that's a good question. I think you should see the show first, then go wild and buy all the Hamilton-related books. 😉 8y
wisebravegirl @SaraKahne whoa, that's so cool! I picked up Chernow's Hamilton biography this weekend, are there other books you can rec? 8y
wisebravegirl @Laalaleighh right??? It definitely should come with an addiction warning!!! 8y
MrsAlexanderHamilton @wisebravegirl I have quite a few. I really liked Duel with the Devil by Collins, but it doesn't have a whole lot to do with him. It's more about the law case he worked on. Maybe War of Two or Jefferson and Hamilton. Or there is, the alliance opposite of those rivalries, Washington and Hamilton. 8y
MrsAlexanderHamilton @wisebravegirl Honestly, I read a lot of his own writings as I've found that's the best way to study him and understand him. But I study the American Revolution as a whole, so I like to pick up books that include other key figures. You sort of need to understand everyone to get the big picture. 8y
wisebravegirl @SaraKahne these suggestions are brilliant, thank you! I've got a little reading list now to check out after I finish the Chernow bio. Thank you!!! 8y
Tonton Actually went to Tower Records in Shibuya and bought the soundtrack. 8y
MrsAlexanderHamilton @wisebravegirl You're very welcome! If you ever need anything Hamilton, I'm your girl. 8y

My favorite summer reads are books that take place in cold climates. It's hot outside today but I'm freezing with The Abominable!

NadinetheReader It has been preeeetty warm lately this summer where I live- and it's super humid too. Thankfully I can stay inside and read all summer😄 8y
wisebravegirl @Nadinereads staying inside during the heat and just reading is the best! Sometimes I forget it's so hot outside! 8y

I've seen this described as "Harry Potter meets His Dark Materials" and while that's a little hype-y, I don't think the comparison is too far off (despite Smoke being an adult novel). Unfortunately, Smoke lacks the heart that drives HP and HDM.

SusanInTiburon But the background in your picture: perfect!! 9y
