Chrissyreadit @BooksandCoffee4Me Welcome to Litsy! Are you following @LitsyEvents ? @TheBookHippie coordinates card swaps for the seasons- and often people include a poem, stickers sometimes bookmarks- it‘s a fun way to connect with each other. Keep an eye out for the next one. 3d

Beastly Beauty | Jennifer Donnelly
post image

Low pick for me. I have liked other books by Donnelly quite a bit and was a little disappointed in the writing style. I LOVE Beauty and the Beast and retellings- so was a excited to read a gender swapped version. I also liked the premise. I just was not pulled in and found it to be a little boring. It could also be just the timing…

I enjoyed the world building and found family camaraderie in this third book. The cliffhanger is a killer - i did not realize the last book has not been published yet and i may have waited to read this if i had known- I‘m thoroughly invested in these books.

I enjoyed this Romantasy much more than I expected. The FMC is trained as a healer in a world with magic where non magic humans are considered the lowest and often killed indiscriminately- especially if a child born to a non magic human and descendent . There are several plots occurring at one time, rebellions and almost everyone seems to be morally grey at different moments.

Closer to solving the mystery thread from the first book, but there is another murder at the event she coordinated for valentines weekend. I do like the creative events she plans and i find it funny that they all continue as planned before during and after the murder that occurs.

Yup…. another event and another murder. She really could be a serial killer in plain sight in theory…. but a fun event idea, engaging primary mystery and more clues for the secondary mystery thread that runs through each of the books. Still a pick but i would definitely avoid her events…

I am starting to feel like myself again… so of course will update and bookbomb Litsy- I‘m also trying to engage more with storygraph. Reading has of course been life saving and soul saving these days! This was a #cbbc pick and i liked a lot of things about this first of 6 books. Takes place in a bookstore within a cute town and the detective and mc have 2 mysteries to solve. The detective was her college mentor and i loved the collaboration.

Hi friends! I‘m working with a busy brained child who cannot transition to sleep easily. I think audiobooks may be helpful and would love to hear some recommendations I can pass along to the family. I will be grateful for any suggestions. Please and Thank you!

Avanders Malachi loves the magic treehouse series, and there are a bunch of Sesame Street audio book/stories. I don‘t know whether they‘re good for transitioning to sleep, specifically, but they‘re good kid audios. ☺️ 1mo
Daisey I don‘t have a specific recommendation, but you might look into some of the sleep story podcasts. There are various ones spoken in very calming voices to help you fall asleep. 1mo
See All 8 Comments
Cuilin The Frog and Toad series and Winnie the Pooh were huge hits in my preK classroom at nap time. I‘ll look up what else I used. 1mo
Larkken I loved the James Herriot books as a kid. They're comprised of short vignettes from the author's life as a rural vet. I just downloaded the audiobook but haven't tried it... So this is maybe not right for the situation (and also maybe the wrong age? I dunno your kid). But maybe worth checking out! I always love a good British accent when falling asleep, myself. 1mo
squirrelbrain There are kids‘ sleep stories on the Calm app. Not sure how many are on the free version as I have a subscription, but they‘re all about half an hour long and, of course, specifically designed for sleeping. I don‘t think I‘ve ever heard the end of one! (Grown-up versions for me ☺️) 1mo
BethM I just tagged you in what we use. They also make a different system called a Yoto that has cards instead of figures. Plus it‘s something he can operate on his own vs a phone or device. Otherwise if he‘s snuggling with me he likes to fall asleep to Harry Potter with me 😂 1mo

I started this on audio- and could not get into it at all, but when i switched to reading I enjoyed it much better. The setting is Upstate NY and a year round Christmas Town- I thought that was funny because in College it felt like it snowed October until May in Utica NY. I liked the characters, was a little survey the killer and overall enjoyed the mystery.

Just finished. I loved this book. I think i will reread it more slowly and i have a lot of questions… but some of my suspicions were accurate and so maybe more will be. I was supposed to be at the author talk tuesday- my SIL video taped most of it for me since i had a family emergency and could not go- and her talk was so much fun to watch! I am curious about what the target edition looks like…

Chrissyreadit @forestandcrow IF is one of my favorites- but i did a reread and that‘s when i loved it- there were a lot of nuances and parts that in a reread were so much better. I think the same may be true for onyx storm. 2mo

Butterfinger @Chrissyreadit I find myself getting so anxious about Violet not telling her squad, her best friends, about the venin. Knowing what happens, I am more nervous during the second reading. I'm at the part where the squad is enduring the torture "course". 2mo

GingerAntics I actually felt weak and sort of down after I got my EDS diagnosis. Then a friend suggested these books to me, not even knowing I‘d gotten the diagnosis (because I hadn‘t told a soul) and I felt so much better. I love Rebecca Yarros. I am behind her 100%! 3mo
See All 8 Comments
Chrissyreadit @GingerAntics yes- it was funny my SIL and i have known each other since HS and she said she thought Violet complained a lot about about pain- because she said i never seemed to be in pain- and i laughed because i was ALWAYS in pain- just worked through it 🤣 It really felt good to have a character who has a similar body! 3mo
GingerAntics @Chrissyreadit RIGHT? Plus, she needs to take into account, we‘re getting what‘s going through her mind, not necessarily what she‘s actually saying to other people. I know I gave up telling people I was in pain a LONG time ago. I think by the time I started school, I‘d stopped saying anything because I knew I was going to be ignored anyway. 3mo
Chrissyreadit Honestly i felt so relieved once i was dx- until then i had decades of gaslighting and “injuries” drs had never “seen” before- and all of it is check the box for EDS. @GingerAntics 3mo
Chrissyreadit @GingerAntics i‘m glad you have enjoyed the books- and also have some valid medical answers. 3mo

Happy Solstice! Blessed Yule! This day reminds me to take a deep breath, enjoy the light and feel some hope in the chaos around me. I love slipping away from the commercial world to have moments of focus back on nature. I will have wassail and a fire tonight , my family tradition for 9 years- and Brynne is home to make the wassail!!! 🕯️🤍🕯️I hope all of you experience some calm too💙(tagging some who celebrate but wishing for everyone)

AmyG Happy Solstice! Glad your girl is home. ❤️ 3mo

The latest Cleopatra Fox mystery- A young woman gets on the train but does not get off- and no one believes Cleopatra that foul play is likely. This one reminded me most of some classic mysteries and i appreciated the storyline, mystery and coninued snail pace barely there romance.(sigh)

Cleopatra Fox continues to solve mysteries, its 1900 and she should be looking for a husband- but instead has the slowest of slow burn romances with a fellow detective. Her family and friends (the hotel staff) continue to play a big part in these books.

My Sister of the heart recommended this and I really enjoyed it! Jess is starting over with son in college, recent divorce and needs a job and place to live. She finds this with a spirited house, gargoyle, vampire, alicorn and were creatures…. the banter is funny, middle age accurate and I loved it!

Deb i‘m a little late- but here are my 5 joys for the week:
1.My daughter is driving back to live on the East Coadt again- left LA Friday.
2. I‘ve been reading a range of books I am enjoying.
3. Coffee always brings me joy.
4. A lot of old friends have reached out to reconnect.
5. My cats 🐈‍⬛ 🐈 bring me so much joy (and my dog too!)
