Bride | Ali Hazelwood
"A dangerous alliance between a Vampyre bride and an Alpha werewolf becomes a love deep enough to sink your teeth into in this new paranormal romance from the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis. Misery Lark, the only daughter of the most powerful Vampyre councilman of the Southwest, is an outcast-again. Her days of living in anonymity among the Humans are over: she has been called upon to uphold a historic peacekeeping alliance between the Vampyres and their mortal enemies, the Weres, and she sees little choice but to surrender herself in the exchange. Again. Weres are ruthless and unpredictable, and their Alpha, Lowe Moreland, is no exception. He rules his pack with absolute authority, but not without justice. And, unlike the Vampyre Council, not without feeling. It's clear from the way he tracks Misery's every movement that he doesn't trust her. If only he knew how right he was.... Because Misery has her own reasons to agree to this marriage of convenience, reasons that have nothing to do with politics or alliances, and everything to do with the only thing she's ever cared about. And she is willing to do whatever it takes to get back what's hers, even if it means a life alone in Were territory...alone with the wolf"--

I enjoyed Hazelwood‘s vampire/werewolf world and appreciate the mystery she added. I‘ve read 1 of her 3 Love Hypothesis books and 1 of her 3 STEMinist novellas. If this one continues, I‘ll probably stick to just this one out of repetitiveness, even though it was a fun read.

I love, love, LOVED Ali Hazelwood's spin on a Vampyre/Werewolf romance. I was fully invested in the alternate world she built, and while some of the "twists" were more obvious to see coming than others, I thoroughly enjoyed the journey and the slow build of their romance. I sincerely hope she continues the series sooner rather than later!! ?

I‘m not 100% sure about this…I loved Lowe and Misery, but the spice was definitely a little weird for me. Loved the storyline, and loved the characters, but the suggestion for a sequel kind of caught me off guard a little. This was still a lot of fun though, like all of Ali‘s books are

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have greatly enjoyed Ali Hazelwood's STEM romance books. With this being her first paranormal romance, I was definitely intrigued and I can say that I was not disappointed. What I love most about Hazelwood's writing is how well (and how smart) she writes her characters. While romance is obviously at the heart of this book, Hazelwood gives us a mystery and political intrigue that gives the plot a realistic feel in this shifter novel.

This one was really good! I actually found myself laughing out loud because of how witty the author wrote the character Misery. It was definitely an intense story that kept me wondering what is going to happen next but it was a good balance between wit and intensity! I love vampire stories and this one didn‘t let me down! Dare i say this was also vampy-were smut?!

….Kinky! I respect the unflinching exploration of a vampire and werewolf union, Ali Hazelwood went there. Not sure I need more of it (the epilogue suggested a sequel) but I was entertained. 3 ⭐️🎧

Listened to my first audiobook through Spotify! I was hooked on this book in the beginning but I felt like it petered out towards the end.

Vampires and werewolves hate each other and each take a child to reserve peace. There is also some hacking (penetrator) in this book but it was pretty minor. 2nd romance this month that I‘ve read that this was the woman‘s job.

I‘ve read better fantasy romances, but this one was enjoyable.

Both of these just edged into Pick territory for 3 ⭐️ reads. I appreciate that Ali Hazelwood is finally branching out from the (now very) repetitive trope formula established in The Love Hypothesis (Grumpy/Sunshine, extreme height difference). Check & Mate still featured a very nerdy subject (professional chess) and Bride‘s FMC is a Vampire Princess-in-STEM, but exploring new genres (YA, Paranormal Romance) has breathed new life into her writing.

Saknicole I‘ll have to borrow bride from you when I come through town next. The wait on Libby is hilariously long. 1d

I was really nervous to read this having seen some mixed reviews, and knowing how much I adore Hazelwood‘s other books. But I absolutely devoured it and could not put it down!!! I loved the humour mixed in with the drama. Considering this was her first book into the fantasy genre I was very impressed. Also so happy that the end looks as though she‘s setting up for a sequel. Yay!

It was right around St. Valentine's Day when I went 2 Walmart & found this. Their bookshelves had mostly Romance reads.

I usually browse to see if there is any love stories in the fantasy genre. This time however, I just finished watching the novela, #amorimposible & I “needed“ something similar.

By the time I found this, it felt like buried treasure. It didn't seem what I was searching for at that moment in time, yet it was fantasy...👇

AnnCrystal At first, it seemed similar to the the start of, The Kiesha're series by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes: a marriage to bring peace.

Not perfect, yet an unexpected delight! Even had the Beauty And The Beast vibes that had made me obsessed with, Amor Imposible.

Here's some notions...

Vampires were missing a bit of the mysterious they're usually known for. Nonetheless, I did like that the vampires were a species instead of some type of mutation. 👇
1mo
AnnCrystal Loved the Were's & how they seemed the most sophisticated of the three species. I'm careful with “wolf“ books because many seem to still hold a negative perspective about wolves, or are overly x-rated. While this did become steamy, it did not incredibly dominant the storyline...and they became acquainted first.

Lowe's demeanor seemed to suggest someone who is well into their thirties and not twenty-something.

Oh, what a lovely read.

Holy. FRICK. That was addicting to read. Couldn't put it down - besides quick breaks to laugh or go "omg, wait what". Silly “monster” romance. Lowe is freaking amazing. I can't get over his everything. That speech he gives Misery on that trip? Hell, that hit every pore. Misery herself, well, I felt so bad for her going through all that abuse. Still, she never backed down. Spice was hot due to the amazing emotional connection they created.

What a fun read! This book has been criticized for being silly, but I ask you, what to expect from a book about a vampyre and a werewolf, lol. Total fluff, but also with some surprising insights into loss and abandonment and loneliness, as well as conflict and stereotyping and power politics. I liked watching Misery and Lowe get to know each other and build a real LIKING for one another beyond just attraction, and a satisfying ending.

3.75⭐This book has an odd cover, almost as if it was left unfinished….but anyhoo…this is my first Ali Hazelwood book, and while this book was compulsively readable I can‘t help but inevitably come up with some elements that didn‘t work for me. Also…for a Vampyre/Werewolf book, this was surprisingly un-supernatural, other than the knotting🠠WTF seriously, that scene was so awkward. Although, it‘s quite likely that I‘ll listen to the next one.

Spring has NOT sprung in Vermont (or it was one of those “false springs“ they talk about. Yesterday's snowstorm derailed my weekend plans. But, I got a lot of reading under a heated blanket cuddling with the babies time!

I finished this one. I enjoyed it, I hadn't read a paranormal romance in a while so some of the racer parts surprised me. (Maybe I wasn't used to Were/Vampire sex). Had a lot of the typical tropes too, but I still enjoyed it.

Misery Lark's marriage to the werewolf alpha will cement a treaty between werewolves and vampyres, but she has her own reason for agreeing to risk her life by entering this marriage.

I devoured this book in two days. Hazelwood's first paranormal romance was super fun with a very different plot, but with a lot of the tropes she's known for using in her romcoms.

ElizaMarie I picked this up because I thought the cover was pretty :) 🤩 I started it while I was waiting on my hubby at the doc's office and already know I am going to love it! Glad to see it was a pick for you! 2mo

Many of you really like this book, I am against the clock on my library loan here (I know I can airplane mode 😉) I‘m at about 25% & the characters are not doing it for me (so 1 dimensional) but I also DNF‘d 2 books yesterday so it‘s probably just me 😂 Talk me into it (or out of it) - should I persevere and hope it clicks or #hailthebail ?

It‘s always fun to read Were and Vampire rules implemented for new generations existing in a world of prolific-breeding humans. These were fun characters with a romance that did not lean into the miscommunication trope - kudos for this because with all that interspecies steam it would have been easy to fall victim to it. The steam comes in at the halfway mark so Ali gave us a chance to know Misery and Lowe first - I appreciate that.
