And I'm up to date with #FictionalTraveler too! @julieclair

Unfortunately I really didn't like this book. I was expecting a sweet forbidden lesbian romance set in Iran, and instead got a couple of naive selfish drama merchants -[cont in comments]

Also, be aware, though sold as a romance this is NOT A ROMANCE NOVEL.

Lauredhel [cont] and the POV character hatching a plan to have a surgical sex change (she's not actually trans, so I'm not calling it gender affirming care) so she can marry her girlfriend.

Along with the unlikeable main characters, the prose is just not great. I really enjoyed one of Farizan's other books , so perhaps this was just a debut novel issue?

I do love a bit of Japanese whimsy. Not so much a novel as a collection of short stories about people who need help finding a clinic open visible to people who need it, where the treatment is cats prescribed as emotional support animals ☺️ 🐈‍⬛. As a slave to two cats, I know how much snuggles from a cat can help!
Second finish for #10BeforeTheEnd @ChaoticMissAdventures
#Asia for #FictionalTraveler @julieclair
Book 95 #Read2025 @DieAReader

ChaoticMissAdventures ✔️✔️ I need to get to this one! 1w

I'm not a fan.

The snobbery, constant gossip and battle of egos just rubbed me the wrong way.

I only finished the book, because I was curious about who Rachel's dad was, and even that was a bit of a disappointment

Such an odd read. The plot is a bit over the top for me but the twists and turns based on weird house maps make up for that and kept me reading on. A light pick.

#FictionalTraveler #Asia

julieclair This definitely sounds unique! 2w
julesG It had quite a lot of twists for such a short book. 2w
LeahBergen I was wondering if you‘d read this one! I was recently reading about it. 2w

#Read2025 #SeriesLove2025

Finished for October‘s #FictionalTraveler #Trees prompt, I quite liked this first book of the Crown Colony series set in 1930‘s Singapore. Su Lin, a young Chinese-Singaporean woman whose childhood bout with polio has made her walk with a limp & be considered “unlucky.”. Her uncle is trying to marry her off while her dreams are bigger. I like Sun Lin & her perspective on race & class & colonialism in Singapore. The ⬇️

DebinHawaii … mystery (solving the murder of a young female servant in the Acting Governor‘s house) had twists & while I had it figured out before the end, still had me guessing. I‘m going to read the second book (tagged below) for our #FictionalTraveler November prompt #Asia (edited) 2w

These are my November choices for
#readordonate
#fictionaltraveler
#thematiccozies

julieclair Fun choices! A Grilled Cheese Mystery series? Bring on the punny titles! 2w
OriginalCyn620 @julieclair I love puns in general, so I like a good book title pun too! (edited) 2w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I don't usually find myself reaching for a cozy mystery, but browsing the covers in the bookstore leaves me laughing like a kid every time. Puns & pets are always welcome! 2w

Hello, #FictionalTraveler (s)! It‘s November and we‘re heading to #Asia ! What will everyone be reading?

Also - I‘m trying to decide whether to continue #FictionalTraveler for another year. Please comment below to let me know your thoughts. 🤔🤓🙂

This month, I‘ll be reading The Travelling Cat Chronicles.

thebacklistbook Of Jade and Dragons by Amber Chen will fit nicely.

as far as continuing, do what works for you best.

Read4life I‘ve enjoyed this challenge. I‘ve noticed I‘ve been choosing books to fit all of the challenges I‘m involved with instead of reading more spontaneously. I‘ll be cutting back in 2026 but haven‘t decided which challenges/Buddy reads I‘m going to stay with. #ReadOrDonate works well with #Roll100 so if they continue I‘ll participate in them. 2w
Enchanted_Bibliophile I really enjoyed this challenge, but if my further studies are approved for next year I'll be cutting way down on all my reading. 2w

TheAromaofBooks I've been using this challenge to pull a book from my shelves, but I haven't been super consistent in reading them!!! So I've enjoyed it, but between this, Read or Donate, and Monthly Nonfiction, this is the one I've been the least consistent with reading 😂 2w
Lauredhel Asia... I might go looking for a manga! 2w
Lauredhel I've enjoyed this and the nonfiction challenge as a nudge to look outside my default reading, but you do you, whatever works 2w
