I loved Hulse's 1st book, Black River. Looking forward to February's #bookspin!
@TheAromaofBooks
I've been wanting to try this author, and this book was a great introduction. The premise was interesting and executed nicely although a bit slow in the middle. The MC was an introverted book nerd whose husband very unexpectedly took 3 people hostage. POV bounced between MC and the hostage negotiator. This was a fun, easily recommendable book.
Thank you to William Morrow & NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
2024 flew by! I'm halfway through December's pick but all ready for January 2025 #bookspin.
@TheAromaofBooks
This was the 3rd in the series but can be read on its own. I wouldn't go back since major plot points were revealed but will definitely go forward. I have read 3 stand alones previously and Berney is the best kind of fun - a blend of action, drama, darkness & humor with well developed characters. Always a great palate cleanser!
Thank you to William Morrow & NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Starting December #bookspin while finishing June's to get all caught up with only one 2024 DNF.
@TheAromaofBooks
Dan Slepian, long time Dateline producer, has written an engaging and enraging book. It managed to be both heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. He was (still is)relentless in his search for the truth, feeling it his moral obligation. This was a page turner in the most maddening way and should be required high school reading.
Thank you to #Celadon Books and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
November #bookspin is an author that i have been wanting to try for a long time. Can't wait to dig in!
@TheAromaofBooks
I got 2/3 through October #bookspin and stalled. Loooove this author but I am struggling with this one. This will push me to finish up.
@TheAromaofBooks
Vercher crafted a well-done, beautifully written literary novel weaving in dry humor and magic realism to delve into many profound themes. The nonlinear timeline going back and forth from present to past filled in all the blanks perfectly. I highly recommend it!!

Finally posting August #bookspin! I read King's short stories Five Tuesdays In Winter and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to this novel!
@TheAromaofBooks
Finished June, just started July, still working on May....but all set for August #bookspin!!
@TheAromaofBooks
This debut memoir had so many things that would make great book club discussions. The refugee and immigrant angles were very interesting. Major themes involved cultural differences in processing grief and healing. The love of food played a big part, as well as body shaming and self identity.
I struggled to finish, though. It was repetitive and a bit whiny.
Thanks to Celadon Books & NetGalley for the advance in exchange for an honest opinion.
July #bookspin is an author I've read and enjoyed. A light cleanse book is just what I need!
@TheAromaofBooks
Nearly done with June's pick but behind with May. Hoping July #bookspin is an easy read!
@TheAromaofBooks
June's #bookspin has been on my shelf for so long. It is from a local indie (closed about 3 years ago) that @mrp27 and I visited back in the day.

Emotional first-generation American story tied up with mother-daughter relationship. Get tissues!

Thanks for the tag @Karisimo
I love this author so I just bought this book based on that fact and it's the 1st in a series. Now I have opened it for May #bookspin and see there are no chapters, tiny type, filled top to bottom of page with very few breaks. May take a minute😁
@TheAromaofBooks
I found this so much fun. It was just what I needed when I read it!
The snarky, unreliable MC along with her Podcaster "friend" trying to solve the murder of her best friend was fast paced and entertaining. It's a perfect beach read.
Thank you to #Celadon Books and NetGalley for a Kindle copy advance in exchange for an honest review.
This is hard for me to review as I jumped right it, got quickly bored but then it kick- started half way through. The 2nd half was too jam packed so it felt rushed but at least compelling enough to finish and call a light pick.
With a non linear plot it touched marriage and motherhood roles, losing and finding your identity and self-worth.
Thank you to #Celadon Books and NetGalley for the eArc in exchange for an honest review.
"Shades" of Gabby Petito.... this was a well written, fast-paced, true crime lean of a mystery/thriller.
How far will you go to protect your child? How do different socioeconomic classes handle trial by media? Highly recommended!
Thank you to William Morrow & NetGalley for the advanced Kindle edition in exchange for an honest opinion.
Kissenger's intimate, raw, honest personal telling of mental illness. The investigative journalist researched and wrote about the subject for decades before unpacking the details of her own life. Heartaches and shame but also lots of love, resiliency and courage. Highly recommend!
Thank you to #Celadon Books and NetGalley in gifting me a Kindle edition in exchange for an honest review.
I'm finally digging out of Covid haze. It's been a long 2 weeks but this happened before that❣️. My son got engaged....And also November #bookspin with a favorite author!
@TheAromaofBooks
I didn't love my 3rd novel by Berney as much as The Long and Faraway Gone and November Road. His attempt at tackling the heady subject of child abuse left me wanting more development of some of the side characters and less obvious plot advancement and conclusion. I will continue to read him though.
I want to thank William Morrow and NetGalley for advancing an ebook in exchange for an honest opinion,
I finally finished this. It is a light pick for me. It took 3 tries and I needed to get 1/3 in of a short book but then it clicked...and sticked : )
Excited to relax with October #bookspin after an awful week of work and kitchen renovation screw ups!
@TheAromaofBooks
I was recommending even before Reese!
A grandma and her daughter and granddaughter become a trio of mystery solvers after overcoming their own dysfunctional relationships. Hopefully the start of a new cozy series!
Thank you to NetGalley & William Morrow for an advance digital copy in exchange for an honest review.
