Good quick thriller mystery. Very sad story. Maybe a little reminiscent of Gabby Pettit but not a retelling. Just the premise. Well done with lots of secrets here. Read it in a couple of days. The cover is all wrong for this book.
This was INTENSE, y‘all. Despite mostly knowing what happens right at the start, it still kept me guessing, and just….. gasping at the way people (especially on social media) treat each other. And the lengths people will go to, in order to protect their families. Just wow.
5⭐
This was surprisingly captivating for a book that doesn't shy away from revealing its mysteries early on. The allure was not in the suspense of the unknown but in the unfolding drama and the anticipation of the repercussions. The intrigue lay is in the mystery itself but in the aftermath. The narrative journey had me completely hooked. But the horrible cover does not do this book justice at all. The full-cast narration was also super good.
This may well be the most intense thriller I‘ve ever read. It‘s clear from Nina‘s opening chapter what has happened to her, then we hear from her family and the family of the perpetrator as things unfold. The nauseating way people will treat each other is on display here. I‘m sad this fantastic book is saddled with such a bad cover because it‘s SO good.
This one‘s a page turner! College age Nina goes missing and all signs point to her long time boyfriend. Lots of narrators: Nina, her mom, her dad, her sister, the boyfriend and both his parents, and of course the detective. I liked all the different perspectives, as I could really feel what they were feeling, as the days went by. Highly recommend.
Bk22 of my 2024 #BookMail is a signed edition of the authors new standalone thriller. Nina & Simon are the perfect couple. Young & in love, until the weekend they both go to his family‘s cabin in Vermont, and only Simon comes home. Nobody knows what happened to Nina & Simon‘s explanation doesn‘t add up. Her parents push the police for answers & his parents rush to protect him. How far will his family go to keep him safe? Sounds brilliant👍
Out on March 25, this fictional crime thriller reads like true crime, but in real time. Well written, the mystery is fast paced and hard to put down, I stayed up way past my bedtime to finish. There were a couple of great twisty surprises too. Not for the faint of heart, this doesn‘t shy away from the ugliness of violence. I don‘t like the cover, but everything else is satisfying. I will read more from McTiernan. #ARC #netgalleygroup @AllDebooks
"Shades" of Gabby Petito.... this was a well written, fast-paced, true crime lean of a mystery/thriller.
How far will you go to protect your child? How do different socioeconomic classes handle trial by media? Highly recommended!
Thank you to William Morrow & NetGalley for the advanced Kindle edition in exchange for an honest opinion.
