There‘s a lot of landscape painting and mule riding and then in the last 30 pages it gets interesting.

Jo's brother is accused of bombing a local courthouse after learning they will lose their home to make room for a new highway. This novel examines the aftermath of that bombing - how people grieve, how people forgive, and the bounds of faith after senseless tragedies occur. After finishing this book, I would say I liked it - though it is slow at times and the author spends a great deal of space describing Jo's painting habit. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
My house is clean, the windows are open, and the crickets are chirping. Finally enjoying some down time with this book that I checked out from the library. It's an interesting premise about a girl whose brother is suspected of a terrorist attack on a local courthouse. Set in Montana this book does a great job of portraying nature and the natural environment. Stay tuned for a final review.
This was a slight disappointment to me because I was expecting more “action“, but it was still a good read overall. I think it was really interesting having the book told from the perspective of the sister, rather than the brother.
A very nuanced read and I would recommend if you're looking for something a bit different.

I picked up this novel for it's ripped-from-the-headlines feel and this one does a good job of going into the personal from a broad overstory. Great characters here. Recommended. #netgalley #arc
