Bailing at 50% The Magic system is interesting, but the main character isn‘t very interesting and this is just a bunch of typical YA tropes. Also, I was 50% in and virtually nothing had happened.

Sometimes it‘s not the book it‘s you the reader and where you are , this started well pacey page turner but I just felt like the last 150 pages was like walking through mud , not enough action and not enough tension or chemistry between elspeth and ravyn a decent fantasy but doesn‘t interest me enough to buy the 2nd in the series . Sorry about that , I will pick it up in my local library if they get it
Page 📄 55 & hello Ravyn yew giving me games of thrones vibes 😆in a good way
Can you say CLIFFHANGE?!? Book Two is in my near future... I just gotta know... Fantasy, mystery and Gothic charm; Elspeth has a demon in her head, but he protects her and may lead her to collect the fateful deck of Providence Cards. Cards that hold the cure to the mist and infection that claim the land. His help comes with a steep price and Ravyn fears losing the woman he loves to the Nightmare.
This popular gothic fantasy has some killer cards to play, with a unique card-based magic system, a steamy enemies-to-lovers romance, and a fantastically sinister monster living inside our heroine‘s head. While the YA/New Adult prose didn‘t always work for me and the first half is very slow to start, the world-building and plot made up for it. That said, I think I‘ll wait till October to read the sequel for all the spooky gothic vibes.
Picked this up not knowing much about it. Liked how the tale spun out and you learned more and more about the monster. On a bit of a fantasy reading kick recently and this fit the bill. Really enjoyed it.

Overall, a good reading month. I finished 8 books, and have two in-progress carrying over to March. Higher than average ratings for me, which means I read a lot of good books in February! My top read of February is the tagged; I finished it in 2 days and immediately started the sequel. According to Goodreads and Storygraph, I am 6 books ahead on my 2024 reading goal (75 books).
It took me a while to get into the MTG card thing.
Very like a fairytale. There‘s a sex scene.
I liked the premise. A girl who has magic which is considered an illegal infection/illness & should not be allowed to live. On top of this she has a monster in her head. She is taken in by rebels looking for a cure. Plan is to pretend engagement. Fake fiancé can enter her mind but promises not to until an emergency. Stay tuned for book 2.

Be wary the trees.
Be wary the song of the wood on your sleeves.
You‘ll step off the path—
To blessing and wrath.
Be wary the song of the wood on your sleeves.“
I once told myself that I would never read YA again but this book changed my mind, it was absolutely worth reading.I loved the characters from the beginning especially Ravyn with his touch her and you die attitude.

A good fantasy story that I'm on the fence about because of it's YA eye roll themes. But! If you press on, the plot is pretty good and it goes well beyond the immediate characters and the inevitable romance element. I enjoyed the deep mysticism and dark forces at play aspect, that's a pretty big hook for me.
„Tell them. Tell them the truth. When your children ask, do not lie—do not hide the risk of magic. Children are strongest when their eyes are clear. Only then can they make their own choices. Only then are they truly free.
Tell them. Tell them the truth.“
Yep, The nightmare told us the truth, what a manipulative monster he is👹.

2024: 5
Entertaining audio book for a lazy rainy Sunday. Good enough to make me want to pick up book 2 of the duology.
I don‘t read a lot of fantasy but I really enjoyed this one! It reminded me a lot of both the Once Upon a Broken Heart and Caraval series and it definitely was an interesting escape of an audiobook. I will say the romance aspect didn‘t appeal to me (I‘d love to read a fantasy story without that having to be a component) but I am intrigued to see where the story takes us in the next installment! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Missed a day in the #12booksof2023 so this is my favourites of June and July! ##bestof2023 @Andrew65
Looking for some good fairytales or retellings for winter reading... something about snow and magic always feels right to me. Especially dark ones, but I like em all! Any faves out there? Tagged will probably be my January pick.
Legend says the Shepherd King tricked the Spirit of the Woods to give him magic, with which he created 12 types of Providence cards. In revenge the Spirit surrounded the country of Blunder with mist. Children caught in the mist run the risk of infection which gives them magic; they're rounded up by Destriers & Physicians. 11 years ago Elspeth, eldest child of the Destriers' Captain was infected and survived - but only her family know her secret.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fantastic story, unique magic system, moving plot, dark and creepy atmosphere, romance 😍 I get the hype! Highly recommend! #onedarkwindow
I discovered this book through TikTok and I thought since everyone loved it so much I would give it a shot even though I‘m not a huge fantasy fan. I loved this book. This was definitely one of those fantasy novels that just sucks you into the story. I definitely need the second book as soon as possible!
A complex, twisty fantasy, with a dark streak running through it like a shadow on pointed claws. Elspeth, the MC, is a sympathetic character, fighting for her survival with everything she has, finding new allies and perhaps even love along the way. Her enemies are strong, though, particularly the one that lies within… This one was a great read, and kept me guessing right til the end. Will definitely be picking up the sequel.
This is a fun and quick read! But I feel like I've read this story before, a few times? I'm looking forward to seeing how the duology ends in Two Twisted Crowns, which I have up next. And these covers 😍
And with the end of VenCo, I‘m back to one paper book and one Kindle. Gotta say, my brain is kind of relieved — it‘s been a wild@month with so many on the go! 😅
Another #spookyseason read! I probably shouldn‘t have started this on my lunch hour, bc it is very hard to put down, even right at the beginning…
On balance I enjoyed this one but I found the magic system —a system in which rhyming was a common occurrence (though it often fell flat)—to be overly complicated & borderline nonsensical which was a distraction more often than not BUT, it was dark, had some great characters with complicated families & it kept me turning the pages which is all I can really ask for. I‘ll read the sequel but don‘t feel in a rush to do so.
Very cool cover though!
“Be wary. Be clever. Be good.”
I really, really loved this book! I‘m so very thankful that I picked it up when the sequel comes out next month. So glad I don‘t have to wait long for it. I‘m not usually much of a fantasy reader in years past, but I sure am enjoying dipping my toes into these waters. Especially the magical, gothic fantasy of this book. And the romance. I‘m here for it all! Definitely excited for the next!
This was a interesting dark fantasy about magic ,I enjoyed it but the ending makes you have to go to the next book to really enjoy the whole story
My only book read for #20in4 readathon but I was glad to have finished in about six hours or so
I really enjoyed this magical fantasy novel. Set in a world where anyone who becomes infected with magic is taken away and killed. There is a deck of cards that give the owner magical abilities, and the King is trying to find all the cards. But a renegade bunch of people are trying to collect the cards themselves and lift the deadly mist to save the infected people. The second book comes out in October.
This book was so good! A gothic, forest setting with a Caraval-style magic system. I loved that the families were named for trees, and I loved the rhyming way the nightmare spoke. Can't wait for the next one.

Interesting magic system. Gothic joy. Tense. Nicely paced. Beautiful Gothic prose.
The hype is real. Loved how original the story felt. The magic system and world building was well thought out. Characters were well developed and the pacing was perfect. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Here‘s a bunch of choices for #LMPBC Round 17 #groupf
I‘ll tag the books in the comments. Let me know what you want to read! I know it‘s a lot to go through, but I couldn‘t decide on just 4 to choose from!
I am so deeply offended that the sequel to this downright masterpiece doesn‘t come out until the middle of October. I loved every darned second of this book and it hurts so good. 😩 a bazillion stars aren‘t going to cut it.
Dude, these poems at the start of the chapters are absolutely awesome. I‘m living my best life right now.
This book was PHENOMENAL!! An original YA fantasy story and I thoroughly enjoyed every single page. I am very sad I have to wait 9 months for book 2 as this book does end on a cliffhanger!
Using this for #booked2023 as a Quiet YA because I haven't seen much about this book on the social medias. I will be recommending this to a lot of people this year!

I had such a great reading year!! These were some of my favourites. ♥️♥️♥️
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book was SO good. I loved the world and the world-building itself was very well done. The characters were great, and the writing itself was simply *chef‘s kiss*. If you need me, I‘ll just be here eagerly waiting for “One Dark Window”‘s sequel.
I want to give this book all the stars. I think this is one of my favorite reads of the year and need the sequel like yesterday. I love the magic system and the cast of characters. I was not fully expecting the ending. One of the characters is one that you love then hate then not sure how to fill. It will be interesting to see what they do in the next book. #fantasy #fantasyromance #romantsy #favoriteread
