The Secret History | Donna Tartt

2✨ I really only finished this because it was a book club pick. It had moments that were really interesting, but I really struggled to get into the story. #HTBookClub @Littlewolf1

dabbe I remember finding zero likable characters, and that made it a struggle for me, too. 7d
Roary47 @dabbe sounds like we were in good company my book club is pretty much saying the same. 7d
DogMomIrene I wasn‘t a fan of this one either. No one was likable. And none of the unlikable were the “villains you love to hate” for me. So many people raved about this one. Definitely a book that impressed upon me how I needed to improve my vetting process for reading. 6d
TheLudicReader I love everything she writes, but I get how you could bail. None of these characters are likeable, and as Tartt does overwrite, so you really have to *want* to carry on. No point wasting precious time on books you don‘t like. #hailthebail 6d

3✨ The mystery was intriguing enough to keep going. I was struggling with this story because of the multitude of characters, the various timelines, and it wasn‘t really a thriller in my book. This story I read with my #htbookclub that we all pretty much agreed that it was not the book for us.

Caroline2 Yeah I was underwhelmed and agree it isn‘t really a thriller and actually rather depressing!! 2mo

3✨I struggled with this one because of all the cards and magic associated with it, but I really enjoyed this. I found it interesting that the “nightmare” protected, but was also slowly killing her through the book. I‘m interested to see what happens in the next book. #HTBookClub

Pickpick

4✨Another book that has been on my list forever. Cassie is our main POV, a teen in high school, before the 1st Wave in an alien attack on the planet. Her family manage to escape several of the waves until they get split up. It turns into who can you trust. There is a little romance, family ties, and working on taking their planet back. It was really good, there was real danger for the characters. It was a bit predictable. Plus lots of characters.

4✨ read this really fast! It was too good to put down. We have a young girl who cannot speak left at a girl home when her mother disappears. All she has is her mothers journal show her slowly going crazy. One day she gets a letter to return home to her uncle. When she gets there there is a lot more happening than just some family drama.

Roary47 It turns into a unique fictional world which I don‘t completely understand even now. Worth a read if you haven‘t gotten the chance. #HTBookClub @Littlewolf1 #DoubleBookSpin @TheAromaofBooks 1y
wisherwishinguponastar I have enjoyed Schwab as an adult author, but I have never read her middle grade books. 1y
