What Feasts at Night | T Kingfisher

Pickpick

Hard pick, but I'm not surprised, T. Kingfisher is a great author. The second book in the Easton saga (if we can call it that) and, even though this one is slightly different, it has all the creepiness, wit and pleasant story-telling of the first book.

We should all make this our mantra for the hard times ahead ❤️

1-20-25: My 6th finished book of 2025! Fantastic story! Told from the point of view of Camden and Jules, a married couple, and letters from Camden‘s adoptive mother, Ruby, this story is a wild ride of confessions and plot twists. Cam and Jules must go back to Ashby House, where Cam grew up, to finally receive his inheritance. But he doesn‘t want it or anything to do with his adoptive family. Many secrets are hidden in Ashby House.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣6️⃣

Cam returns home after 10 years to his inherited beautiful estate in the mountains after some convincing from his wife. Once they arrive the truth of the woman who adopted and raised him comes to light from some papers in his mother‘s desk. I don‘t know if I just wasn‘t in the mood but this book just did not capture me and I found a few plot holes wondering why certain information was even brought up. Just ok to me.

If I had a nickel for every book I‘ve read about a bunch of sisters all named after flowers that have some extremely traumatic childhoods, I‘d definitely have at least two nickels.

I did enjoy this book for the most part but feel slightly let down by the (lack of) resolution of a certain plot point in the end.

Litsy, there are times I eat with family and for the 1 1/2 hrs I am with them it‘s pure torture, so I can only imagine what 9 days in a Tuscan villa with 6 dysfunctional family members feels like for Anna. A nagging mother who wants stuff to happen so she can be a mother. An emotionally absent brick wall of a dad. A clingy twin who can‘t take responsibility for his choices. A sister so insecure, who just comes off so hateful and jealous. 👇🏼

Reggie And oh yeah, the Tuscan villa is haunted. I was laughing a lot at the sheer audacity of this horrible family. Have ya‘ll ever seen that episode of Family Guy where Meg admits that she knows she has to be the most hated family member or else they all fall apart. This was a lot like that. Don‘t read if you need to like characters. But it was a pick. 4d
Suet624 Well I surely won‘t be stacking this one but I love the review of it. 4d

Bookzombie Great review! 🙂 I would stack if I hadn‘t already. 3d
Reggie @Suet624 @Leftcoastzen Thanks, ladies. It was a total Jerry Springer show. 3d
Reggie @Bookzombie I feel like I was on YouTube shorts where they go, members of Reddit what was the time you decided to cut ties with your family. And Anna goes but in that robotic voice they use, one time me and my family were staying at a haunted Italian villa. lol it was a little crazypants. I hope you like it. 3d
AmyG I really liked this one. Horor and my love of dysfunctional families 🙌🏻 1d
Centique Brilliant review - i would visit the haunted Italian villa with you but lets make it a Littens Reading Adventure, no dysfunctional family members. (How bad is this haunted villa anyway? 🤪) 1d

I really wanted to like this, as the premise sounded awesome. But for me, it didn‘t live up to the premise. I struggled to become engaged in the story and to connect with any of the characters. Maybe my expectations were too high because of all the hype, but this one wasn‘t for me.

I liked The Ten Thousand Doors of January so much more than I liked this book. I did the audio version. I had a very hard time following it. I did like the setting, a creepy old house. I didn‘t care for any of the characters. I had a hard time understanding the relationship between Opal and Arthur. This book was just so-so.

Surprised by the plot ☠️
If this is how death treats me after passing on…🌚
I would also swallow 5 belladonna berry‘s at once
But all jokes aside this book was really thrilling to read and I‘ll cant wait for Signa to solve the next murder

Extremely satisfying conclusion to this dark fantasy duology! The magic system continues to captivate/surprise, deeply love the characters, the twists & resolutions are excellent, and the romance is well done - not annoyingly fast or based on looks, it grows really nicely.
Whole story is really well executed top to bottom.
I have not loved a new book this much in ages.
Raced through and can‘t stop thinking about it.
5⭐️, hands down. Loved.
