Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down: How to Be Calm and Mindful in a Fast-Paced World
Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down: How to Be Calm and Mindful in a Fast-Paced World | Haemin Sunim
A multimillion-copy bestselling book of spiritual wisdom about the importance of slowing down in our fast-paced world "Is it the world that's busy, or is it my mind?" The world moves fast, but that doesn't mean we have to. In this bestselling mindfulness guide--it has sold more than three million copies in Korea, where it was a #1 bestseller for forty-one weeks and received multiple Best Book of the Year awards, and it's being published in more than 20 countries--Haemin Sunim (which means "spontaneous wisdom"), a renowned Buddhist meditation teacher born in Korea and educated in the United States, illuminates a path to inner peace and balance amid the overwhelming demands of everyday life. By offering guideposts to well-being and happiness in eight areas--including relationships, love, and spirituality--Haemin Sunim emphasizes the importance of forging a deeper connection with others and being compassionate and forgiving toward ourselves. The more than twenty full-color illustrations that accompany his teachings serve as calming visual interludes, encouraging us to notice that when you slow down, the world slows down with you.

I had to read this quickly for book club but it would have been better as a dip in and out of book. I was a bit put out to find when I googled the author after I'd finished reading that the author had actually been in Jakarta while I was reading it to do some talks and readings which finished the day before.

I‘m spending a few months at my sister‘s who has probably never read a book in her life, but recently bought this one. I found it on my nightstand as I moved into my designated room, so I‘ll guess I‘ll be reading a few pages each day before going to sleep lol

This really did strike a chord. Over the years I have realised that I need stories, words, pages as much as the air I breathe. They nurture my soul, feed my curiosity and calm my mind. Would be lost without them.
How about you?

TheSpineView Love this! A great reminder that we need to nurture our minds and souls too. 3y

Definitely the best book to observe and redefine fast-based world around, defining essential values and power drivers.

I‘ve been dipping in and out of this book (a series of essays, quotes, interspersed with lovely illustrations) the whole week, sharing some quotes that I loved..it‘s good if you take your time with the little nuggets of suggestions instead of reading it at one go. I didn‘t resonate with everything but basically it aims to make us reflect on our busy life, inspire us to be kinder and nicer to ourselves and interacting with others.

#TIL that I should not keep carrying resentment in my heart. Sometimes it‘s not so easy to forgive but offering forgiveness can set us free and make us happier.

Nice book, good writing and easy to read. However doesn't bring anything new. More of the same.

Some good quotes and anecdotes and I can see why people like it but it lacked a bit of substance for me. #booked2018 #diversenonfiction

This was a spontaneous library request, and it was just the thing I needed to start helping me get out of this "what do I do with my life" funk. I'll be saving my pennies to buy my own copy. Practical, straightforward, smart, and compassionate. Just loved it.

And he loves books for so many reasons - I think he's a Litten at heart! ❤️

elkeOriginal What's funny is I am the opposite - I hesitate to spend on food, but never hesitate on brand new hardcover books! 7y
cariashley I'm definitely like this, but only because of space concerns. The wine mysteriously disappears somehow. 😊 7y
Ashley_Nicoletto This is so true for me! I'm working on spending less on wine and more on books. 🙃 7y
