Murder, She Wrote: a Killer Christmas | Terrie Farley Moran, Jessica Fletcher
post image
Pickpick

I wanted a good escape book today, and I decided to drop everything and pick up a Murder, She Wrote mystery, one set in Cabot Cove, Maine (I think this place rivals Midsomer in England for murder capital of the world).

I think I liked this one more because of the setting and my familiarity with the characters than the mystery itself—I knew the killer as soon as it happened, which is so rare for me. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️⬆️ The writing was a little clunky at times, yet this did not deter me from reading. It was good comfort reading, and I read this in a day. #52BookClub25 #GenreFourSetInWinter 18h

Two Metis cousins steal a herd of bison to release in an urban area, as an act of environmental activism. A good story, with plenty of humour and some suspense, that looks at the complexities of Indigenous issues.

I'm glad I found a book for the #52bookclub25 “includes a heist“ prompt, though I hadn't expected it would involve bison!

Not a single likeable character. Everyone is 🛌 with everyone else and seemingly the whole town knows, but no one spotted the physical abuse?

Maybe Tintera should stick to YA novels.

The #audiobook was done well though, I liked the podcast sound effects.

Two royal envoys, Calarian and Benji, are on a quest to help the duke of Tournel with a mountain troll problem. What could possibly go wrong? Well, the duke goes splat! The "new" duke is the first "idiot" the two elfs meet, Lars Melker the cowherd. And that sets the wheels in motion which might lead to a dictatorship or the first constitutional dukedom in Aguillon.

Add in their mutual attraction to Lars and emotions might happen, as well as ?️

Book 5 of the Time Police series does not disappoint. Sadly, no St Mary's involvement, but that might be for the better.

Team Weird, together with Team 235 have to stop a runaway steam train that's been chug-chug-chugging all over the timeline and across several continents.

Meanwhile at TPHQ there is a funding and staffing problem. The latter might be solved by throwing officers down the stairs.

julesG #NetGalley #ARC Because of the publication of the paperback edition. 5d

This was cute. I read it in two days, and it is perfect escapism—a village of anthropomorphic animals and murder. I wasn‘t sure what to expect, but overall I enjoyed it. I liked how the author (or authors, as it is two writers under on pen name) used characteristics of each animal as the basis for the characters‘ portrayal.

I‘d read the next in the series, but maybe in a little while. #Animal #ThematicCozies #NonHumanAntagonist #52BookClub25

Luke-XVX I have a soft spot for anthropomorphic stories. Your description actually made me think of Wild‘s End a graphic novel and then there‘s one of my all time favourites , Mouseguard 6d

Librarybelle Nice, @Luke-XVX ! I typically do not read anthropomorphic stories—no reason, really, just typically have not—so this was a nice departure from my typical read. And a cozy mystery, no less, which is my escape reading! 6d
Luke-XVX I forgot to add Moomins-rookie mistake! 6d
Luke-XVX All hail the escape read! 6d
Reggie I waited have nayed this years ago but the Paul Tremblay had an uber political novella with animals with a serial killer cat who had a podcast, a dog searching for redemption, and a grieving family of toads and I fell in love with it. So stacked. lol 6d
Librarybelle @Reggie Wow! I‘ve not heard of that! 6d
Reggie It‘s in his book of short stories he came out with like 2 summers ago. 6d

I enjoyed this novel much more than I had expected to. It's a good exploration of grief and depression that is also funny and uplifting. The characters, most of whom were initially unlikable, grew on me as the novel progressed.

Pickpick

Two redheads are rescued from prison by a merry band of adventurers. One of the redheads is the heir to the throne, but the idiot leading the band can't decide which one it is and, to be on the safe side, takes both. A quest through dangerous swamps, battles with bandits, and facing the villain ensues.

If you are a fan of lough out loud funny D&D campaign style stories with an M/M forced proximity romance, read this.
