I can't remember that Katniss was this irritating the first time I read Catching Fire. She was like a whiny child, only seeing what she wanted.

The story however was expertly executed, and gripping as ever.

I finally took the time to finish this for #InDeathLongReadalong …I‘m a bit behind! But, I think this was another great addition to the series. We see a more vulnerable Eve in some ways as she navigates grief and love. We also see a very strong Eve who speaks of walking with the dead. A bit of a sentimental end. #LitsyAToZ #LetterJ

I enjoyed the writing, the dark humour and the wise-cracking, sarcastic main character, though it lacks the impact of the first book in the series. It will be interesting to see where book 3 goes.

4½✨

Sanderson did it again.
This installment is much slower and less action packed than the previous two, but still ending on a high that leaves me wanting more.

Mehso-so

I love stories about the ancient gods and their lives. So this tale about the Gaelic Goddess of Winter sounded right up my alley.
But I found it a little repetitive, and the lack of character growth in the first majority of the book got on my nerves.
The ending did somewhat compensate for the beginning and left me satisfied.

This novel has one of the most psychologically evil fictional characters I have ever met. Be forewarned—parts of this are very difficult to read due to the actions taking place and the pure sinister behavior of one of the characters. We hear the story through Gillian, who as a woman in her 70s is reminded of a troubling episode in her teenage life, prior to WWII, when she visits the home of her friend Violet Claybourne over winter break. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️⬆️ Gillian is entranced by the crumbling home and the old money of the Claybourne and wishes desperately to become friends with all of Violet‘s sisters. However, something horrific occurs one day that changes the lives of those involved forever and haunts Gillian. This is a slow building novel, almost too slow in the beginning, but once the reader realizes the manipulations taking place, it makes sense. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ 7d
Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️⬆️ It is creepy, gothic, snd unputdownable. Nathalie Buscombe‘s voice narration is stunning, and as things are revealed, her choice of tone can be quite chilling at times. So many red herrings and shocks in this one. Thanks to Libro.FM‘s advanced librarian‘s copy program for this one! #LitsyAToZ #LetterU @Texreader 7d

Reggie Great review! Stacked! And the cover looks sooo pretty compared to what you say it‘s about. How funny. 6d
Librarybelle Thanks, @Reggie ! And yes…the cover hides what is in this. The UK cover is in blues, and I think that better fits it. 6d

5+ stars! Seven authors each write in sequence from the viewpoints of different people about Rome‘s occupation of Britain, and the attempt of a queen of one of the tribes to force them out. Queen Boudica did exist; her story was told by the Roman historians. But this book follows other characters (one per author): another queen, a slave (Boudica‘s husband‘s illegitimate daughter), a Roman tribune, a Druid, a son of an important character, ⬇️

Texreader a warrior (Boudica‘s chief military official), and Boudica‘s daughters. The story is seamless despite being written by 7 people, and the threads of the story carry through ingeniously. There are unlikeable characters, but most (more than those listed above) end up being sympathetic. This is true even for some characters one might initially dislike. This is a marvelous book. I borrowed it but will try to find a copy to buy. Highly recommended. ⬇️ 1w

This book is astounding, written by 7–SEVEN-authors, about Queen Boudica‘s rebellion against Rome in Britain. Review to come. But in the Author‘s Notes, I thought it amazing that one of the authors gives so much credit to our #authoramonth Kate Quinn! I‘m so glad I read this book; it‘s a keeper (which means I‘ll have to buy a copy). I wouldn‘t have read it but for #authoramonth but I also needed it for #letterY for #litsyatoz. It‘s extraordinary.

A history of the city of Alexandria, from its conception by Alexander the Great in 331BC to the Arab Spring of the early 2010s. As I have a fondness for ancient history, I found the early chapters most interesting. I felt a bit bogged down with various invasions and a little depressed at the recent “islamification” that has cost the city much of its multiculturalism.
