Here‘s my March recap. It was a great reading month & I finished 23 books! (Including 5 audiobooks, 19 fiction, 4 NF, many genres, several children‘s & classics)

I read for #SundayBuddyRead #NancyDrewBR #BobWhiteBuddies #EBBR #AuthorAMonth #ChildrensClassicRead2025 #SheSaid #RiseUpReads #JaneAustenThenAndNow #BookedInTime #FoodAndLit #Roll100 #ThematicCozies #FictionalTraveler #MonthlyNonFiction #SeriesLove2025 & #AuldLangSpine #SeriesLove2025 ⬇️

DebinHawaii …My favorites of the month were The Frozen River, Nettle and Bone, Kills Well With Others, Not That Bad, All Systems Read & Pride and Prejudice (reread for the zillionth time) & The Great Gatsby (hadn‘t read since high school) was a surprise winner. Lots of series books too—including both the 1940 & 1976 versions of our monthly Nancy Drew title. (edited) 1w

#Read2026

I‘ve been meandering through this book & reading the chapters that correspond with that month from September to March. I appreciate May‘s gentle writing style on the transformative power of rest and retreat during challenging times & these are certainly challenging times! I know I needed & still need time to heal & like the parallels she draws between the natural world during winter & her (& our own) experiences of healing. Beautiful.

Sparklemn This book was life changing for me. We can always look forward to our spring. (edited) 2w

#Read2025 #MonthlyNonFiction

Pulled it out at the last minute & finished this one for #RiseUpReads Torn between So-So & Pick, I‘m going with a pick because while I grew up in Northern California & Oregon & was taught the history of the states, so much of it was white-washed & little was taught about women & the roles they played. This book isn‘t perfect—it slogs (I skimmed some chapters) & the focus is mostly on the white experience but there ⬇️

DebinHawaii … is some good information in here & I liked learning more about subjects & themes that intersect with historical fiction I‘ve read.

I love stories about the Berlin Wall and this was another fascinating addition. 29 people escaped from East to West Berlin in 1962 and it was documented and funded by the American news broadcaster NBC. ‘The tunnel‘ won 3 Emmy awards.

Gift from the Sea | Anne Morrow Lindbergh

Pickpick

I first read this book back in 2012 and knew it was one I wanted to find and add to my own collection. Lindbergh writes from a seaside cottage where she is on holiday, each chapter looking at a different seashell and using it to reflect on a different aspect of life. Published in 1955, it was an era where woman were still mostly home-focused, but with advancing technology opening up more time and opportunities for them. I found her thoughts on ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) the importance of seeking solitude, finding creative work/hobbies, understanding and accepting that relationships go through cycles, and finding ways to take time to ground yourself to be thoughtful and encouraging.

TheAromaofBooks At only 128 pages, this is a slim volume and I enjoyed chewing on a chapter a day. I've been meaning to revisit this one for years, and thanks to the #MonthlyNonfiction challenge I picked up this 128 (Philosophy/Epistemology/Humankind) and checked the 100s off the list!! @julieclair

julieclair Love that vintage edition! I have owned this book for years, I suppose it‘s time I read it. 🤪 2mo
TheAromaofBooks @BooksandCoffee4Me @julieclair - This one definitely benefited from only reading a chapter every day or two. It was a nice book to savor. 2mo
julieclair @TheAromaofBooks That‘s helpful to know. 2mo
kspenmoll I have my mom‘s copy with its well worn, slightly torn book cover. She gave a copy to all of her daughters & daughters in law ( total 7) in her will. 2mo

3 siblings are placed into foster care. Their biological father is a narcissist, who only sees the world as it pertains to him and sees his children as property. Their mother is severely mentally unstable and both of them are Christian fanatics. The children win the lottery when they are placed in the home of the Blaine‘s who are total opposites. They are hard working publicans, Australian bogans, rough around the edges, but with hearts of gold ⬇️

Rissreadswithcats And unlimited amounts of love to give. This book is a prime example of how sometimes facts are stranger than fiction. But the book reminds us that for every bad egg out there, there is a good egg to even it out. #Oznonfiction ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #MonthlyNonfiction @julieclair (edited) 2mo

CarolynM I read the condensed version of the story in the Age‘s Weekend Magazine a few weeks ago. It was quite startling - as you say truth can be stranger than fiction. And Jackie Weaver‘s involvement😳🤯 2mo
