My #MonthlyNonfiction choice for April has been on my TBR forever!
What will everyone else be reading?
The story is great, the writing is dry. I'm curious about the TV show that was made about it; I think it might be more exciting visually. Kind of a shame because the details of how this all went down are so important and fascinating. But the book reads like an unemotional news article. Also, I was made uncomfortable by a couple of points where Povich and others showed their white privilege.
Waiting for my daughter to finish her first-ever interview... 😱 (She‘s 14.)
Reading about the women of Newsweek who revolted and challenged discrimination in the workplace. #internationwonesday
🌸It‘s cherry blossom time here!
📚 I‘m only reading one book, The Good Girls Revolt! It‘s about women working at Newsweek in the 1970s who took legal action against workplace discrimination. #currentlyreading #friyayintro
A short but interesting look at the early days of the second wave feminist movement.
#riotgrams #pinkcovers Well, pink spines at any rate. Until I went looking for them, I didn't realize how many I have with pink spines - I could easily have included more. The only ones in this pile that I've not read are the Laurie Penny, and Sex, Bombs and Burgers. I'm super excited for a new Julie James soon!
"But ours is also a subculture that will always feel vulnerable to the powers that be; we will always believe that we are irrevocably outsiders. We often wonder when the government will, once again, need political scapegoats and choose us. As a consequence, we have very little faith in, or regard for, duly constituted authority. We also know that friends are often friends only to a point." #JewLit
The topic of this book is fascinating (the women of Newsweek suing their bosses for equal rights in 1970) but the writing felt flat and impersonal, even though Lynn Povich was directly involved in the lawsuit. It makes sense since she's a newswriter first but I guess I was hoping for more "oomph."
This was my "book set in the 70s" for the #litsyreadingchallenge #LRC12
New in from the library! I think Peggy Carter would approve ?
Did anyone else watch the show on Amazon? I'm so sad they cancelled it, it's what inspired me to pick up the book in the first place.
This will be my "book set in the 70s" for the #litsyreadingchallenge #LRC12
I just watched the first episode of this show on Amazon Prime. Now I need to see if my library has the book! Two days in and my TBR list keeps growing and growing....
"The women who fought those fights were not the ones who got the rewards. People like me, who came right behind them, got the good jobs and promotions..." Pictured: an all female masthead at the magazine I work for. Would this have been possible without these women? Maybe not. I am grateful to them for taking a stand and moving us forward. And I aspire to do the same.
If you are considering this stop and just go get it. Strong women that fought hard. These women put themselves on the line for something that they did not get to reap the benefits of. #trueinspiration
Had to go grocery shopping today. I HATE grocery shopping. Audiobooks have been an anxiety saver for me. I needed a new one. I saw a commercial for the Netflix series based on this book. Incredibly interesting and I'm only an hour and a half into it. 🎧
I was so excited to see the first season come out today of an Amazon series based on this book! I loved the pilot and can't wait watch the rest!
Unlike the show, the book is non-fiction and written by one of the good girls who revolted.
