All of Us in Our Own Lives | Manjushree Thapa

My first interlibrary loan came in. I had no idea that it includes books from across the province and not just the nearest city. Why they get them from libraries nowhere near here instead of a library close by when they have them in stock seems odd. Only allowed to request two at a time so I went with a Nepal read for #FoodAndLit and a short book set in Iceland.

#LibraryBooks #Nepal #Iceland

TheKidUpstairs I know at our library, it's all about which library agrees to send it first. We don't really get a say in which library we request a book from, it just goes out as a general request in VDX. I always like seeing the different places books travel to us from, and looking up libraries and towns I've never heard of. 5h
Jess861 @TheKidUpstairs It's neat to see how it works - doesn't bug me just thought it was odd when the city we live closes to has 7 copies on the shelves, lol. Opens up more options with all the libraries though 😊 - can't believe I've never used this service before! 5h
KathyWheeler Libraries also have agreements with other libraries about fees and such. My university prioritized requests by those agreements and whether or not we could get a book without having to pay fees. Our interlibrary loan person also had a good feel for which libraries were faster, and we also prioritized asking for books from libraries that were within our consortium. Sometimes the closest libraries don‘t meet the criteria for making the request. 4h

#5joysFriday

1) crafting last weekend with girlfriends, making a scrapbook of my parents‘ cat who recently crossed the rainbow bridge 😢
2) bringing home dinner of burritos of enormous proportions (texmex in San Antonio is the best!!)
3) a little bit of snow at our lake house
4) making snert—split pea soup for #Netherlands #foodandlit
5) getting ready for #Nepal!!

Thank you @DebinHawaii for the tag!!

Leftcoastzen Beautiful kitty!🌈 2d
Texreader @Leftcoastzen She was indeed. Her fur on her legs from behind looked like little petticoats. A perfect little farm kitty who managed to live to a ripe old age of 17! 2d
Bookwormjillk That burrito is almost as big as your daughter! 2d
dabbe 🖤🐾🖤 And now snert is my new favorite word. 😂 2d

Here's my Christmas haul! It's a bit late because I took my time cashing in my Christmas gift voucher and the book that was a direct present was mislaid by the post office 🙃
So, I got:
The Book Censor's Library by Bothayna Al-Essa
L'énigme du nom propre (poems) by 15th c. Uzbek author Alisher Navoiy
Jâmi's Mejnun & Layla
Nezâmi's Mejnun & Layla
Palpasa Café (for #Nepal #FoodandLit)
Barzakh by Mauritanian author Moussa Ould Ebnou

Very happy!

Ruthiella Nice haul! 😃 5d

A re-read for me, but perfectly timed for when it‘s cold and the wind is howling. This is the book that started my love affair with high altitude climbing stories and it still holds up almost 30 years after publication.

Mehso-so

This was a very harrowing story that makes you doubt the sanity of anyone who summits Everest. The story was well written, but a little bit rambly at times switching between 1996 and previous expeditions, at times this was lightly annoying because I wanted to hear more about what happened in 1996, but I understand that a lot of context needed to be set so that the layman (like me) could understand mountaineering terms.

Pickpick

The tenth most banned book in America this past year is a skillfully and sensitively told story, based on interviews with real survivors, of a 13 year old Nepali girl sold by her stepfather into prostitution in India. This important, inspiring, and very moving book, published in 2006 to critical acclaim, exemplifies the words Lakshmi‘s beloved mother tells her, “Simply to endure…is to triumph,” and celebrates survival, love of learning, and hope.

#WednesdayWanderings @AllDebooks @jenniferw88 @TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit

1. My favorite literary walks (hikes) are the tagged book as well as Wild by Cheryl Strayed
2. The terrain is vastly different looking but the feelings of solitude and loneliness seem similar. I feel inspired by the discipline and focus it takes to accomplish individual physical and mental challenges. #litsolace #midsummersolace

AllDebooks I really enjoyed both those books 7mo
