A quick listen, though I was supposed to read this slowly, as the title suggests. I liked it, though I‘m not sure how much will stick, so it would be better to have this in print for a bigger impact. Several points really resonated and would be excellent for people to hear, especially the sections about finding the common ground and realizing that often religions have more in common than what separates them. Delight in the simple things in life.

julieclair Same for me. I listened on audio - not slowly - and then ended up buying a print copy so I could linger over it. 4h

#MidwinterSolace #LitSolace

Happy Imbolc 🌞 Spring is on its way. 🌷

I hope you've enjoyed the last 2 months as much as I have. #MWS is always a big help to get me through the shorter days.
❄️Did you participate in the #buddyread (tagged book)?
❄️What are your thoughts?

We'll be back for #MidsummerSolace in June. Happy reading. 📚

Librarybelle Overall, some good reflections. I liked the stories in each section that helped solidify the message for that section. I was not as enchanted with the book as I had hoped I would be, but I‘m so glad I read it! 5h
TheBookHippie I‘m so sorry I bailed too many “pissed me off quips” 🤪😂😂😂🥴😩🤷🏻‍♀️😝 I‘m sure there was good in it for someone. I generally don‘t read these type books. 😅 2h
Crinoline_Laphroaig I didn't read the tagged book but previous one Calm Christmas and Happy New Year was a gamechanger for me. I want to reread every year. Thank you. 1h
AllDebooks @Librarybelle I felt the same, some nuggets of wisdom in there. 1h
AllDebooks @TheBookHippie lol, fair enough 🤣 1h
AllDebooks @Crinoline_Laphroaig I'm so glad you enjoyed the Christmas book. 😊 1h
TheBookHippie @AllDebooks I bailed both books 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I cannot. 1h
Julsmarshall I listened to it on #audio and like @Librarybelle , found a few gems that resonated with me. I never would have found this book without the challenge so thanks, @AllDebooks ! 1h

Mehso-so

Meh. Read a few pages each day. For sure, there were some pieces of advice that resonated with me and made me think about how I approach some situations or people.

But there were also many quotes that sounded trite or off, to the point I wondered what was the original problem this monk was replying to. Don‘t feel much calmer after reading, but given the times, maybe remaining just okay is saying a lot.

Read for #NaturalItsy #LitSolace this was a lovely little book. While not every point made was applicable to me, there were lots of ideas, thoughts & quotes that resonated & that I highlighted. A good calming read overall for a January that‘s gone crazy. 🍵

DieAReader 💖Happy you enjoyed it. I did as well 2d

There are a few gem reflections in this, a book that purposely asks the reader to take their time reading. It‘s reflective and calming. Admittedly, there were a few times I did not quite agree with the author‘s musings, but that may be the point—it opens for good discussion. Overall, a lovely book. Great pick for the #MidWinterSolace #BuddyRead !

DogMomIrene That‘s how I‘m feeling too. Kind of between So-So and Low Pick. I‘m a little past halfway, so I need to pick this up more to finish. 1w
Librarybelle @DogMomIrene It‘s a good reflection overall, but I‘m glad I picked it up at the library rather than buying a copy. 1w

This little book is packed with so much wisdom! I started listening on audio, and quickly realized I needed a print copy, because I wanted to highlight passages, write in the margins, flip back and forth through the pages, and come back to again and again. A gem.

What a perfect choice for #LitSolace #MidwinterSolace , @AllDebooks !

Timely.

The top passage speaks to politicians‘ behavior, but the bottom passage is a light in the dark: “Historically, the people who bring about the change in society tend to be not the middle-aged but the passionate youth. Their hearts are sensitive to the plight of the oppressed. Their spirits stand tall against injustice & fight for the voiceless. Hold on to that youthful heart & spirit no matter how old you are. #MidWinterSolace #BuddyRead

Suet624 I love this. My only quibble with it is the elderly (me) have hearts overly sensitive to the plight of the oppressed as well. 😊 but I understand the point being made. 💕 (edited) 2w

Librarybelle @Suet624 I‘m middle aged, and I like how the quote reflects in the last couple of lines that no matter how old you are to be mindful of your youthful spirit in recognizing the plights of the oppressed. At least, that‘s my interpretation. 😁 2w
Deblovestoread I was struck by these passages as well when I read them last week. 2w
Librarybelle @Deblovestoread I love how you can find quotes that speak to you at the right moment while reading! 2w
Suet624 You‘re right, of course. I think I got tripped up on that one line and never got to what was actually being said. 😂😂 2w
Librarybelle I did at first too, @Suet624 ! There have been a couple of passages I‘ve had to reread to make sure I understood the message. 😂 2w
Suet624 Thanks for your understanding. 😊💕 2w
Librarybelle No worries at all, @Suet624 ! 😊❤️ 2w
rwmg @Suet264 Since he mentions the “passionate“ youth perhaps he's saying that yes, the hearts of older people might be sensitive to the oppressed but the young have the energy and passion to do something about it. 1w
