Mehso-so

I found this interesting in the fact that it was cool to hear about her life and career. I didn't know she had a podcast called Unqualified where they talk about relationships. She did a few situational dialogue readings and a few podcast caller advice readings that got sort of old after a while.

She seems like a pretty down to earth person and so it was fun to learn more about her but I'm not sure if I would read/listen to another book by her.

I think I am going to start this one next. I have been wanting to read it and maybe it'll get me into reading more.

Anyone else read this or have it on their TBR?

Bookcation74 I just finished it this week! Loved it! 6y

Patchshank I just finished the first book of the series. I might work my way up to that one if I enjoy the others 6y

Amandajoy I was listening to a podcast the other day and they said he wrote this in a day. Don‘t know if it‘s true or not, but it makes me want to read it more since I‘ve heard how heartbreakingly good it is. 6y
MinDea @Amandajoy I did not know that. That's sort of crazy but I can also see that. It's such a simple story but such a heavy and difficult subject. It's good. Quick read too. If I had been able I would have finished it in one sitting. 6y

CaroPi I cry at the end of this one. I had only cry with 5 books in my life. This is one of them. 6y
Crazeedi Awwww your friends are just too adorable ! Great photo, especially the kitty looking away, like *im too good for this other creature beside me* 😊😉 6y
JaclynW I'm halfway through my Boyne book, The Absolutist. I'm hoping to begin The Boy in the Striped Pajamas after. 6y

Crazeedi @AlaMich that's possible too😊 6y
MinDea @Crazeedi @AlaMich I think you're giving them both too much credit. Shadow was just looking for the sunshine. Burley was looking for a "pack" to phang with. ??? 6y

I had to step away from Once Upon A River. I just couldn't get into it. So I am starting this one for #MonthOfBoyne. Anyone else started reading their Boyne books? #EadieB #AuthorAMonth

#Shadow was grounded today. He knocked a chair over and put a giant gash in our wall. 🤬 Grounded! #Shippy @Zelma

Zelma What a bad boy! Skippy keeps knocking my drinks over lately. 3 full glasses of water all over the living room floor in the last two weeks. I switched to plastic only a long time ago! 6y
MinDea @Zelma what a stinker! What is with cats 🤪 6y
CindyRene Shadow is a pretty Kitty. I'm sure it makes up for her naughtiness ?? I'm working on my Boyne book today too. Reading "This House is Haunted". 6y

Lmstraubie But he's soooo cute 😻 6y
MinDea @Lmstraubie That's why he's still part of the family! 😆😆 (I'm only joking) 🤪 6y
Soubhiville I just finished this. It was good, I especially liked Bruno‘s mispronunciations. 6y

Amiable @MinDea @Crazeedi @rubyslippersreads It's good so far! I don't think Boyne can write a bad book. (edited) 6y
mcipher Oh, no! Terrible kitties. Ours are determined to destroy our couch 😬 6y

Hoping to squeeze in one more book before the year ends! Enjoying a cup of coffee and #Shadow snuggles on this foggy day here in Seattle! Hoping the fog burns off soon. I have things I need to do! #Shippy @Zelma

What are your NYE plans?

Gramworth Sleep! My husband can wake me up to see the ball drop... then I‘ll go back to sleep! 😂 6y
MinDea @Gramworth 😆😆😆 That's usually what happens here too! We wake up kust in time for the ball or completely miss it. 🤷 6y
dariazeoli I usually watch Anderson Cooper but the NYE show with Andy Cohen was so bad last year! I may sleep through the ball drop this year. 6y
Zelma We did a bunch of cleaning out stuff, burn pile, etc. now watching college football and maybe will play a board game later. No plans to stay up for midnight. I‘m going to read in bed and be asleep by 11. 😁 6y

Hey guys! Just a reminder that January's #AuthorAMonth is John Boyne! Anyone interested in checking him out for the first time or reading more of his books? #MonthOfBoyne @EadieB

MinDea I plan to read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, A Ladder to the Sky and This House is Haunted! 6y
Andrew65 @MinDea Thanks. I have read the first two and they are both excellent books. I also loved The Absolutist. 6y

Carolyn11215 Wow...just looked him up on Goodreads and his books sound great! Definitely need to add a few to my ever growing TBR list! 6y
pilardib I have read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and Mutiny on the Bounty. I thought both were great but the first is a must read 6y
Crazeedi I read this one and have another on my kindle to read. I will try to read another in January with you guys! 6y
MinDea @Carolyn11215 I have only read The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne and it was my favorite book last year. It was so good. I am looking forward to checking out more of his books. You should read one of his books and join our "buddy read" in January! 6y
MinDea @Andrew65 do you think you'll join us and read one of his books in January? 6y
MinDea Thanks @pilardib! I am looking forward to reading it! 6y
MinDea @Crazeedi that sounds like a great book! 6y
Andrew65 @MinDea Most definitely look to join you for one. 6y
MinDea @Andrew65 yay! I look forward to seeing what book you pick! On another note...have any authors you'd recommend we should do in future months? @EadieB 6y
Andrew65 @MinDea Will give both parts some thought. 6y
MinDea @JulesG have you read Boyne at all? If not you should! 6y
julesG Haven't read any of his work yet. Will see which of his books I can get through my friend's library card. 😉 6y
MinDea @julesG do you not have a library card? 6y
MinDea @JulesG you have a Kindle don't you? 6y
JamieArc I look forward to finally getting to The Heart‘s Invisible Furies 😊. I have just one short book to get through before I start it! 6y
JamieArc I don‘t know if I could read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. The film ruined me for days... 6y
julesG No, I don't. Mainly because the local library only has a limited amount of books in English and I cannot borrow ebooks from them. I use my friend's library card, she lives in the UK, and I can borrow a lot of stuff through her card. We also share Netflix and Audible. 6y
MinDea @JamieArc 🤨 uh oh. I haven't seen the movie. Isn't the book YA? I am excited you are going to start THIF soon! It's soooooo good! 6y
TheBookHippie @JamieArc the book is so much better 📖😭 6y
julesG Yes, I have a kindle. Hence no library ebooks in Germany for me. They don't do .mobi files. Only epub. 6y
MinDea Ooohhhh I didn't know that. If you tell me a book you're interested by him I can (probably) send you a .mobi file of it! You'd just have to download it onto your Kindle! 6y
JaclynW I LOVED The Hearts Invisible Furies! I have been meaning to try more from Boyne. I didn't realize he had so many books! Where do I start?? 6y
MinDea @JaclynW I know! So many books! @Andrew65 or @EadieB might have some suggestions as they have read more of his books than I have. 6y
EadieB @MinDea @JaclynW @Andrew65 I‘ve only read Boy in striped Pajamas and Ladder To The Sky. The next one I am going to read is The Hearts Invisible Furies. 6y
julesG @MinDea That's too kind! I'll let you know if I need any help. 6y
Crazeedi @JamieArc I agree, I don't think my heart can take this one, though I hear it's an excellent book 6y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie @JamieArc @Crazeedi It was an excellent book but ohh that ending. 😭 Has to be one of the most impactful endings to a book ever. It is a must read despite the impact afterwards. We use the book with some of our reluctant boy readers (aged 10 - 11) and they couldn‘t wait to read the book. So cleverly written. @JaclynW (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @JaclynW I read The Absolutist on @TrishB‘s recommendation and that is a good place to start. A Ladder to The Sky is also excellent. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB I need to read The Heart‘s Invisible Furies too. @MinDea (edited) 6y
Andrew65 I also fancy (edited) 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 Mutiny does look good too! 6y
BookwormAHN I just checked out This House is Haunted on ebook from the library 😺 6y
TrishB @Eadie @Andrew65 I have Mutiny ready for a different challenge! 6y
JaclynW @MinDea Thanks! 6y
JaclynW @EadieB Both of those look great! Thanks! 6y
JaclynW @Andrew65 Thanks for all of the recommendations! They all look like good choices! I think my daughter has The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. (That movie had me crying!) 6y
Andrew65 @JaclynW That book had me crying. 😭 6y
Andrew65 @TrishB @EadieB My library has Mutiny. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 I ordered a copy of Mutiny which should arrive between January 8th and 15th. (edited) 6y

Please comment below to join the conversation for Bridge of Clay!
@AuthorAMonth #EadieB

MinDea This is the one I really wanted to get to and wasn't able to. I'll have to read it in January and come back to this discussion. I heard that it was tough going at the beginning but then got better. Was that your experience? Would you recommend this book? 6y
Andrew65 I did this one in audio and possibly not the best format with all the swapping around of the timelines and characters in the first half of the book. Only really felt it came into its own in the second half. Easy to see why some had given up on it by then. I really enjoyed the latter part of the books and some moments that hit home. 6y
See All 11 Comments
BridgetteM I‘m on page 260. Much slower going than I thought it would be. It was a real struggle at the beginning, but it got better once things started making a little bit of sense. 6y
BookwormM I struggled with the beginning of this as it was quite slow but by the end I was fully invested 6y
That-Bookish-Hiker I haven‘t started this one. 🤦🏽‍♀️ 6y
MelissaSue81 I wasn‘t in on this buddy read or whatever.. but I‘d be up for some discussion because I‘m really fuzzy on some things that happened. I agree with @andrew65 that audio is not great for this one.. I really would like to be able to flip back and reread with the Changing timelines and sooo much symbolism.. and audio makes that difficult.. :/ (edited) 6y
MinDea @MelissaSue81 this was a completely open read so please join the discussion!!!! 6y
Joanne1 I agree this could be hard going on audio and the very beginning is quite fuzzy. But this is my pick of 2018. I absolutely adored it. The Dunbar boys very quickly wormed their way into my heart and have stayed there ever since. Equally, Zusak‘s writing I thought was utterly masterful, the symbolism perfection. I loved his use of short sentences and the choppy style. He left space for the reader to give the text meaning. And that ending!! 6y
MelissaSue81 So can someone explain to me exactly what happened to Carrie and why Clay thought it was his fault? And I understand that Clay helped his mom die but what happened? What was the peg and the mattress? (I clearly missed a lot on Audio! I zone out sometimes!) 6y
BooknerdsLife @MinDea sorry I haven't been able to read any of his books in December :( Christmas have been way too stressful than I've expected. But would love to see everyone's discussion ...And thank you again for the tag 😘💕🙌 6y

MinDea I absolutely love this book! It was not aaaaaaas good the second time around but I loved it. 6y
julesG I truly liked this book. But, as a German, I also had some issues with it. Especially with some of the German language and swearing. A lot of it was translations from English into German that no German would say like that. Some of the swearing was very inventive. Even my friends from Bavaria did not know those words. 6y
See All 32 Comments
MinDea @JulesG 😆😆😆 I would say I had that top ofind when I was reading this the second time around and wondered how it would really be said. I remember getting tired of the whole Saumensch and Saukerl part in the book. 6y
julesG What really rubbed me the wrong way was when Liesl and Max were called "the German and the Jew" - I'd understood "the communist's child and the jew", since both are actually German, even if Max had lost his citizenship due to his religion. 6y
MinDea Who was your favorite and least favorite character? 6y
MinDea @julesG yes! That did bother me too but I think it was your last point there. He was no longer a German cause he lost his citizenship because he was Jewish. 6y
julesG Saukerl is okay. But it's often used in a playful, rather admiring way. Saumensch I had never heard before. Or "arse scratcher" = "Arschkratzer" doesn't make sense in German. Some of the things the second band of thieves by the river said didn't sound German either. And I'd already said that we don't say crystal clear. 6y
julesG I know that not a lot of the things going on during the nazi time made sense. So, I'm willing to let that hang in the air, but I still hate it. 6y
julesG For the record, German windows open like doors. They have hinges. You cannot slide them up. Having seen my fair share of German houses from the last 1000 years, I can assure you, sliding windows are a rarety. 😉 6y
julesG My favourite characters were Death, Max and Hans. 6y
MinDea @julesG 😆😆😆 it's funny the little things you notice. I would never have wondered if German windows do in fact slide up! Here we have both kinds so it wouldn't be weird if I read that in a book. 6y
MinDea @julesG yes! They're all the best. And Liesel. I love her. 6y
julesG Don't get me started on things I notice in books/films. It's an annoying form of OCD. 😁 6y
BookwormAHN @julesG I wondered about some of those words and phrases. Also though I think Rosa was rather like the comic relief of the book. 6y
julesG By the way, the street names of Molchibg - a fictitious town - are weird, too. 6y
julesG @BookwormAHN Rosa was very uncommon. Given that she must have been born in the late 19th century. No woman would have sworn like that. 😁 6y
BookwormAHN My favorite characters were Liesel, Rudy and Hans 💚 6y
MinDea @BookwormAHN yes! Rudy. 💙 His friendship with Liesel if such a great one. 6y
MinDea Did everyone like that you knew what heartache would be coming in the book from the beginning since Death gave it all away or did you wish he had not spoiled things to come? 6y
MinDea I actually wondered if any of those books were real that Liesel stole. 🤔 6y
julesG It's WWII Germany. I actually expected worse. But, still felt for the characters and was very relieved to see Max had made it out of Dachau. 6y
julesG @MinDea Apart from Mein Kampf, they all seem to have been books invented by Zusak. 6y
thereadingowlvina Truth be told, I DNF this book. I really tried but the writing did not work for me. I'm frustrated with myself as this is a book that I always wanted to read. I think I'll watch the movie instead. #unpopularopinion 😪 6y
MinDea @thereadingowlvina maybe audiobook would work? It is definitely worth the read but yes his writing style is different and in his other books I definitely struggled with it. 6y
thereadingowlvina @MinDea That sounds like a good idea. I think I'll give the audioook a try! 😊 6y
BookwormAHN @thereadingowlvina I listened to the audio book version and it was very entertaining. 6y
thereadingowlvina @BookwormAHN Awesome! I'll give it a try! 😁 6y
That-Bookish-Hiker I really loved this book. Knowing what was going to happen beforehand didn‘t ruin the story for me which is weird cause it generally does. I cried so much when Rudy, Hans and Rosa died. I also cried hard when she saw max walking towards the concentration camp. 😭😭 Rudy, Liesel, and Max were my fav characters. 6y
MinDea @That-Bookish-Hiker I remember being like what the hell! Why tell me that at the very beginning but he wrote the book in such a way that it actually made it better knowing. Oh Max. 💔💔💔 6y
MinDea @thereadingowlvina I have struggled with popular books before too but really wanted to get through it. I've heard the audiobook is really good but what I do when this happens is I read a chapter a day. That way I slowly make my way through it and hopefully it starts to pick up but have had ones where even a chapter a day I struggled with. 😆😆😆 6y
Tanisha_A This book, y'all! I loved it. I know I am going to read it again. It's something to be visiting over for the things it teaches you. I loved the relationship between Rudy and Liesel. ❤️ 6y

MinDea I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I thought it was interesting. Who was your favorite person he had to help and who did you dislike the most? 6y
Tove_Reads Hmm, I have to say I did not get on a first name basis with any of the characters. They all felt distant to me. I loved the book thief, but this one, not so much 🤷🏼‍♀️ 6y
See All 6 Comments
MinDea Yes! I am sitting here thinking and the only character I remember is The Doorman. 😆😆😆 I think I enjoyed this one because I struggled with Underdogs and read this one while trying to get through Underdogs. It was better than Underdogs but not near as good as The Book Thief that's for sure. 6y
That-Bookish-Hiker I really enjoyed this book since it was the first I‘ve read of Zusak. I really liked the family he got Christmas lights for. It was so simple but he made them so happy. 6y
MinDea @That-Bookish-Hiker yes that was probably my favorite one too or the old lady he read to. 6y

Started and finished this one last night. Probably the last book for the year but maaaaaaay squeeze one more short one in! 🤨

Quick, fun & interesting story but I badly wanted to know what happens after! Had some social commentary in it that I enjoyed. #StephenKing

Has anyone else read this?

Meaw_catlady Loved this book! I cried a lot. Very beautiful . I enjoyed that it was short and to the point and I still felt like I was part of the story. 6y

MinDea @Andrew65 Thanks! You're still way ahead of me. I still have to read Wolves of the Calla them I can be caught up with Song of Susannah. 😱 6y
Jovy @MinDea Yes and I'm loving it more the second time around! I'm so glad you hosted this, I don't think I'd re-read this again all by myself. 😅 6y

MinDea Thanks @Andrew65! I am trying to get the audiobook of Wolves of the Calla from the library so I can start it as soon as possible. I really want to catch up! 6y

Andrew65 @MinDea I think audiobooks are the way to go to catch up. 6y

I had a hard time working my way through this book for several reasons but mainly I struggled with the style he chose to write these 3 stories in. Lots of repetiive things, random thoughts, etc. However, one thing I will say about Markus Zusak is that he sure knows how to make you feel for his characters. He writes real human stories and and real human emotions. Things we can all relate to. Things we all feel.

Karisa Book Theif is amazing. I remember it taking me awhile to get into it though. Later, I couldn't put it down. Had so many teary moments too. Beautiful read. 6y
Karisa Just finished Bridge of Clay too. Difficult but has these moments of pure poetry. 6y
Andrew65 Hope to finish Bridge of Clay tonight. So different to The Book Thief. First part felt quite disjointed but enjoying the se one half much more. As @Karisa says some beautifully written parts. 6y
julesG Ugly cried when I finished The Book Thief. It was a good read. I just wish Mr Zusak had taken the time to check some of his phrases for cultural accuracy, i.e. no German says 'Kristall klar' (crystal clear). We compare the clarity of advice or understanding to the water that's used for simmering potato dumplings, which is actually not very clear once the dumplings are done (forgot the name for this stylistic device): Klar wie Kloßbrühe. 😉 6y
Samplergal I cracked it open, but haven‘t been able to read. Son in law was in a bad car accident and has neck fractures. Sorry I think I‘m out. 6y

Blueberry I started Bridge of Clay but couldn't stay with it. I love his other books so I may try this again later because it does have good reviews. 6y
MinDea @tonyahoswalt I read it years ago and remember loving it. I am enjoying it this time too but I am not very far into it. I hope you are getting some reading in during the holidays! 6y
MinDea @julesG so interesting! I just looked it up and clear as mud is a sarcastic way of saying that and we use it in much the same way! 6y
Crazeedi Precious kitty! 6y
MinDea @julesG do you have any book recommendations about Nazi Germany? Historical or Historical Fiction? I remember last time I read this I wanted to learn more and I am feeling that way again! 6y
Tanisha_A I am loving it, the writing is super smooth for a subject so difficult. Starting Part lV now. ☺️ 6y
MinDea @TanishaA I am almost done with Part V! I clagree with you. It's a heavy subject and it is written well to deal with the heaviness. It's so good and pretty quick read. 6y
julesG @Samplergal Sending positive thoughts your way! 6y
julesG I'll think about the books on Nazi Germany. There are, of course, a lot. Right now, I all I remember are 6y
julesG Not sure whether this is available in English 6y
julesG Robert Harris has a few books 6y
julesG This is a pre-war family saga and again in German 6y
julesG This should have an English translation, it's also been made a film 6y

MinDea @Andrew65 I try to do audiobooks but end up having to return them before I finish them. Hope your job is settling down too! 6y
Andrew65 @MinDea Still very intense but off for a couple of weeks but will spend some time in next week to enable me to catch up without other people being around. It hurts, but think I will have to compromise on some of my reading in the new year. I used my credits to buy the audiobooks so can revisit them at some point in the future. (edited) 6y
MinDea @Andrew65 credits? Do you do audible? I have been thinking about doing audible.... Glad you get a couple weeks off though! Sound alike you need a break! 6y
Andrew65 @MinDea I tend to go in and out of audible, but felt I was working so hard I should treat myself and bought a year‘s credit package (24 credits for just over 640, but where possible try to buy when 2 for 3, or get one free special offers). Bought these credits in April and currently got 8 credits left, then will try to cancel as sometimes give you a special offer to get you to stay. Don‘t like the monthly commitment as not as good value. 6y
Andrew65 @MinDea Definitely need a break. Off since Thursday night and keep falling asleep reading over the past three days, which sums up the exhaustion. Hope you get a break. 6y
MinDea @Andrew65 that makes sense! Maybe I'll try to join when they have a deal going on! 6y

Leniverse Eep! Are we reading that this month? 😂 I don‘t stand a chance. I‘ll have to postpone it. Again. 😜 6y
hgrimes @MinDea I‘m so happy he is doing well! That‘s the best news! My kitties are undignified little miscreants who believe everything is a toy, including the Christmas tree, wrapped gifts NOT addressed to them, and used tampons they dig out of the trash! I‘m sending them away to Abu Dhabi. 6y
AlaMich Wow, Shadow has a very long attention span! Our cats have always been like, “BOX! Must sit in the box, must—oh, look, a dust bunny! Must chase the dust bunny!” And then they never play with the box again. 6y
MinDea @AlaMich Shadow LOVES boxes. And just flat items that he can sit on. I think it's his job to sit in them or on them. 😆😆😆 6y
MinDea @hgrimes ?????? he has been acting atad aggressive in his old age. Yesterday my boyfriend walked by him and bit him ? (not hard but enough that he shouldn't do that!) And a friend was dog sitting for us a few months ago and he ran across the room and like "attacked" him". And he has been sort of mean to Burley. Not sure what is going on there. Worried he doesn't feel good but hiding it well.. ? 6y
hgrimes @MinDea awwwwww poor old grump! My cat, Odinn got super moody and unpredictable in his senior years. I found it entertaining! Other people did not! But he had no teeth and the dude was like 20, so I let him do whatever made him happy. 6y
Andrew65 Brilliant book! Enjoy. (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @MinDea Why did your boyfriend bite him! 😳🤣 6y
MinDea @Andrew65 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 6y
AlaMich Sometimes I think if their eyesight and hearing start to decline, they get startled and scared easily. So they “defend” themselves by attacking. 6y

I am so glad that I finally read this series for the first time this year. I really enjoyed it. 💙💙

BeansPage I love this series as well. My favorite was The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. But I have to say I'm really mad at CS Lewis for the way that he ended the series. I personally think it's the worst ending ever for a series and for a book. ☹️ 6y
JamieArc Congratulations! 🎉 6y
MommyWantsToReadHerBook @TheReadingMermaid I think it's a wonderful ending! Interested in why you think it's awful 😊 6y
See All 14 Comments
LiterRohde The ending makes perfect sense if you believe the Christian theology of Revelation - how the world will end, how to get to Heaven, who will get to Heaven, etc. If not, I‘m sure it seems cruel and brutal. Especially in today‘s world where everyone is right, unless you don‘t agree that everyone is right. 6y
MinDea @LiterRohde I completely agree with you. The beginning and the ending is very Christian theology. It made perfect sense to me and I got it. CS Lewis is known as a Christian writer so to me I was not surprised by the ending. I think whether you agree with Christianity is a whole different thing but that is what CS Lewis wrote about! 6y
MinDea @TheReadingMermaid Why did you dislike the ending? 6y
mydearwatson @TheReadingMermaid Are you talking about what he did to Susan? 6y
mydearwatson I don‘t think it‘s the worst ending ever, but it is an odd choice to end a children‘s series with a bunch of death. 6y
BeansPage @MommyWantsToReadHerBook @MinDea @mydearwatson I know it's an unpopular opinion. I thought that the way he ended it with the characters dying was terrible. In the book it's like "oh you know that bump you felt? By the way you're dead. You're all dead." Lol I was like "WTF???" ??? 6y
mydearwatson @TheReadingMermaid Yeah, that‘s a really weird way to end a series, especially a children‘s series :-\. I mean, I get the Biblical stuff, but still... 6y
LiterRohde @MinDea My original post sounded kind of harsh, I‘m sure. But that is all I was trying to say. He, because of his theology, had a very narrow view of what is right. So, based on his theology, it makes sense. And although I understand it because I grew up in the thick of this same belief system, whether I believe it all as an adult is another story. Figuring it all out is difficult in today‘s world where any beliefs that are exclusionary are bad. (edited) 6y
MinDea @LiterRohde it really didn't! I totally knew (and agree) with what you were saying. It honestly made complete sense to me now understanding what all these books really were about. 6y
MinDea @mydearwatson @TheReadingMermaid for kids I don't think it actually says they're all dead...so I'm not sure they understand it to mean that. I think as adults we understand the meaning of the first and last books and what Aslan represents throughout the series; that Christianity is deeply rooted in this series and all CS Lewis' books. But it definitely does not explicitly say all these characters are dead. 6y

Listened to this on audio. I didn't love it. Not sure if it was JD Vance's narration that added to it but I honestly couldn't wait to be done with it. I thought as a memoir it was alright, but the sweeping comments and broader over-generalizations he made bothered me a little. 🤷🏽‍♀️ #UnpopularOpinion #RealLifeBookClubPick

BridgetteM I totally agree! The memoir portions were really good, but his social commentary rubbed me the wrong way. 6y
Daisey I wouldn‘t consider this an unpopular opinion. It matches with many of the reviews I‘ve seen and pretty much what I thought about it as well. 6y
MinDea @Daisy You might be right! After I posted my review I read other people's reviews of it and it seems I am not in the minority here. I thought it was received better than it appears it has been based on other people's recommendations and ravings about this book. 🤷🏽‍♀️ 6y
AlaMich I bailed on the audio after about two chapters. Vance was not a good narrator, IMO, and I was rather bored. 6y
