Mutiny on the Bounty
Mutiny on the Bounty | John Boyne
7 posts | 2 read | 15 to read
An action-packed fictional telling of the events on the HMS Bounty. Fourteen-year-old John Jacob Turnstile has gotten into trouble with the police on one too many occasions and is on his way to prison when an offer is put to him - a ship has been refitted over the last few months and is about to set sail with an important mission. The boy who was expected to serve as the captains personal valet has been injured and a replacement must be found immediately. The deal is struck and Turnstile finds himself onboard, meeting the captain, just as the ship sets sail. The ship is the HMS Bounty, the captain is William Bligh, and their destination is Tahiti. Mutiny on the Bounty is the first novel to explore all the events relating to the Bountys voyage, from their long journey across the ocean to their adventures on the island of Tahiti and the subsequent forty-eight-day expedition towards Timor. A vivid recreation of the famous mutiny, the story is packed with humour, violence, and historical detail, presenting a very different portrait of Captain Bligh and Mr. Christian than has been shown before. From the Hardcover edition.

I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it. Some will be old, some will be new - don't judge me, I have a lot of books.

Day 58th

Join the fun if you want!

Moray_Reads The Sleeper and the Spindle is such a gorgeous book 6y
alisiakae I‘m reading a John Boyne book now! I‘m so glad you made the jump and joined the challenge! (edited) 6y
LauraBeth Nice picks! Where The Crawdads Sing is my favorite book of 2018! ❤️❤️ 6y
AmyG I am going to read John Boyne, too 6y
AmyG @LauraBeth Oooooo....now I really need to read that book. 6y
LauraBeth @AmyG I hope you love it! 6y
TrishB @Caroline2 I think it‘s the only one I haven‘t read! 6y
TrishB @Moray_Reads it‘s hubby‘s - but it does look lovely on the shelf 😁 6y
TrishB @4thhouseontheleft good to be on board! I read that one with both my kids when they read it in school. Great to talk about it with them. 6y
TrishB @LauraBeth that‘s why I want to read it! I put it on my Father Christmas list and hubby said one of your books isn‘t out til Jan (in U.K.) and I said well it‘s out elsewhere and Father Christmas is a genius 🤷‍♀️ 6y
TrishB @AmyG that‘s a great read 👍🏻 6y
alisiakae @TrishB How old were they when they read it? Usually, when I read a middle grade book, I share it with Maya too, but with the Pittsburgh shooting so fresh in our mind, and our synagogue going through more stringent security measures now, I feel she‘s needs more Jewish positivity at the moment. Chanukah starts soon, and we‘re focusing on mitzvahs for others this year! 6y
TrishB @4thhouseontheleft totally understand that! They were in year 6 (so 10/11) but we didn‘t have shootings to contend with and are not Jewish so not as many worries to consider - they read as history - but I do remember we linked it to responsibilities today and their role in making sure these things never happened again 😔 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘m so glad you‘re joining us!! Looks like you‘ll have a fabulous winter reading season. ❄️❄️☃️☃️📚📚💙❤️ 6y
alisiakae @TrishB I know your kids are older, but a great middle grade great book that links the refugee experience past and present is 6y
erzascarletbookgasm Ha! I am thinking of the same books as you for fairytale retelling and favourite place. 😊 6y
TrishB @BarbaraTheBibliophage looking forward to it 😁 6y
TrishB @4thhouseontheleft I‘ve stacked that one as I‘ll need ideas now I‘m nit reading with the kids (though we still pass a lot of books round!) 6y
TrishB @erzascarletbookgasm great minds! I was trying not to buy new ones. 6y

John Boyne. His books are fantastic! The story about John Jacob Turnstile is a bit different, it takes us back to 18th century Portsmouth, and life on HMS Bounty.

TrishB They definitely are 👍 7y
