Camping on the Northern California coast this weekend.
Almost finished with this book. It‘s the story of a friendship of two video game developers that starts as children and continues into adulthood. In college, they create a wildly successful game together that changes the trajectory of their lives. 4/5 stars.

LOVE IT SO FAR 🤓
“Zott is an unforgettable protagonist, logical and literal and utterly herself…The novel deftly mixes comedy and tragedy, with only one very clear villain: the patriarchal culture of mid-20th century America, the days of which are numbered because of women like Zott. [This] novel achieves the difficult task of being both sharply satirical and heartwarming at the same time.” Historical Novels Review

Synopsis: A desperate young woman makes a “deal with the devil,” so to speak, who grants her desire and allows her to live free and forever. But the unforeseen consequence of this is that she is unable to be remembered by anyone she sees. For over three hundred years, she lives an invisible life, until one day she unexpectedly meets someone who actually remembers who she is…

Highly recommend! #literaryfantasy

A perfect Saturday morning at the cabin. I‘m almost finished with this book, and it‘s possible I may love it even more than A Gentleman in Moscow. Towles is such a fantastic character writer, and this book has a whole cast of them. I have no doubt that this book will be turned into a movie or tv mini-series. It‘s a story too good not to be told on the screen. #thelincolnhighway #amortowles #contemporaryliterature

Sometimes you read the perfect book at the perfect time, and that book shines a light on the hidden feelings within you that you haven‘t even really acknowledged or come to terms with. 2019 has been an emotional year for me, with the ending of my 10 year marriage, and the beginning of moving into a new and unknown chapter. This book captures so many of my feelings about marriage and relationships in ways I never knew how to put to words. 5 stars.

#2019 reading goals

Well, my eyes are slowly getting better. All tests and MRI came back normal, so Dr.‘s think it‘s an extreme dry eye flare up caused by overexertion and dry weather/CA smoke. Dry eye is very common, but this severe of a flare up is rare.

Still on steroid drops and limiting computer and reading time. It will be a few more weeks until fully healed. Going forward, I need to use eyedrops daily and take lots of breaks. Crazy!

YouReadMyEyes Thanks everyone for your support through all of this! I had no idea that dry eyes could get this severe and cause partial vision loss, etc. I encourage everyone to use eye drops and take lots of breaks when reading or on the computer. (edited) 6y
GingerAntics Oh you‘ve had a lot of smoke in the air lately, too. That can‘t be good for the eyes either. So glad it‘s nothing permanent or something that can‘t be treated. Hope all the eye drops help quickly. Life without reading would have been torture. So excited you‘re getting better. 💙💙💙 6y

Hi 💛 I‘m going through something and could use your advice & support. My right eye is very blurry and dry. It‘s not healing, despite using various eye drops, a humidifier, and omega 3 supplements. Yesterday, my eye doc put an amniotic membrane in to try and heal it. Unfortunately, now my left eye is headed for the same. Referred me for bloodwork and a brain MRI to hopefully determine why the increasing inflammation and dryness. ⬇️⬇️(see comment)

YouReadMyEyes I‘m trying to limit my computer and reading time for a few days. 😫 it‘s scary. Has anyone else gone through something similar? Advice/thoughts? (edited) 6y
silentrequiem All the love. That sounds so hard! I couldn't read for a few weeks after eye surgery once. Lots of audiobooks. 6y
julesG Hope you will feel better soon and be able to read properly again. Audiobooks is a good suggestion. I had something similar, yet different, happen to me. I had the feeling of something being in my eye (like a lash or piece of lint) for a few days, then my vision got cloudy and then vanished completely in that eye. MRI came back negative, bloodwork showed an inflammation, a spinal tap confirmed my suspicion - I have Multiple Sclerosis. BUT... 👇 6y
See All 28 Comments
julesG That does not have to be the case in your case. There are a thousand different reasons for what you're going through. Chin up, it'll get better. As for the MRI, tell them to use the machine with as much power/Tesla as possible and go for really thin sections to find possible inflammation spots in the eyes or optical nerve. 6y
Mimi28 I hope you feel better soon!! ❤️❤️ 6y
Kaye Sorry you‘re going through this. ♥️. Medical issues are frightening. I think my best advice is that it‘s common to be afraid, and that this “waiting time” is the worst part, because it‘s the unknown. Once you get an answer , you‘ll know what the plan is and what to do about it. I have eye issues but the Dr says it‘s mainly due to old age . Stay strong, try to focus on audiobooks. They can get you through a lot of difficult times. 6y
Literary_Siren So scary! I should probably bring up to my eye doctor that my vision sometimes has spots and I can barely see for an hour or so. I can usually fix it with some sugar consumption or a nap. But I don‘t have insurance so I‘m extremely hesitant to say anything. 6y
MaureenMc 💗 6y
GingerAntics That‘s sounds really scary. It might be a good time to rest and enjoy audiobooks, movies, etc. Anything you can just lay back and listen to. Music might be nice. Your eyes are having issues, so use you‘re ears. 6y
Bklover Sending love your way!❤️❤️ 6y
Redwritinghood Not as severe but I have similar problems with dry eye and nasal passages. Humidifier is a great idea, but I also have a moist heat mask for my eyes that helps a lot. You can get one on Amazon for about $25. I use the Bruder brand. (edited) 6y
CarolynM Hope you get some answers soon. ❤️ 6y
Ruthiella Hope you feel better soon! I agree with the advice to take it easy and use audio books only till you work it out. 🥺 6y
ErikasMindfulShelf Feel better 💕 6y
Freespirit Our eyes are so precious. I‘m sure the MRI will give you some answers. It‘s not knowing that‘s the worst. 6y
Literary_Siren @Beachesnbooks no headaches. I attribute it to low blood sugar as it usually disappears about 20-30 minutes after I eat some candy. 6y
CouronneDhiver My best advice (after having gone through a diagnosis process this year, myself): Dr Google is not your friend. Be diligent with your doctors appointments and follow ups but don‘t let your mind go crazy. 6y
Jas16 Sending love. Sorry you are going through this 6y
Marilyncjackson Sending love and positivity your way. I have no idea what this is but I hope it gets better 6y

YouReadMyEyes @Redwritinghood that‘s a great idea, thank you! 🤗 6y
YouReadMyEyes @CouronneDhiver you are so right! It‘s very hard not to google everything, especially when the doctors don‘t yet know what‘s wrong. I‘m hoping my bloodwork or mri will provide an answer. 6y

Book 2 of the Southern Reach Trilogy is SO different from Book 1. And not in a good way.

The writing style, the main character, the overly detailed descriptions 😫 ...it‘s dragging. I just want a continuation of Book 1 (which was fantastic) not a whole new character with an entirely new (and quite dull) backstory.

Littens who have read this series, please tell me it‘s worth it when I get to Book 3!

Pickpick

I devoured Book 1 (Annihilation) of the Southern Reach trilogy. I couldn‘t put it down. It‘s a slow burn science fiction, more literary than commercial, so if you‘re looking for nonstop action, you should look elsewhere. The narration is very introspective at times; it‘s well written. I loved it. Starting the second book now.

Also watching the movie and (wow) it‘s very different from the book!

cariashley Oh yes.. the end scenes of the movie really had me scratching my head 🤔 6y

No more thinking, maybe I‘ll write someday. No more telling myself, I can‘t do this. No more worrying about whether or not I will fail.

No, I‘m not quitting my day job. And it‘s possible that no one will ever read what I write. But I don‘t care. I want to feel creative again. I want to have fun with words.

And, I want to know, do you write? What about? For business or pleasure (or both)? Do you set a quota? Do you journal? Tell all 😋

Readergrrl I‘m like you. I really want to write but haven‘t started. I‘ve always wanted to participate in the NaNoWriMo but I‘m too...scared, lazy, busy??? I know this doesn‘t answer your question, but I‘d like to see what other people say to your post. BTW, I LOVED King‘s On Writing! 6y
Librarylady I would like to write as well. And every year I think that I, too, should participate in NaNoWriMo...I need to make this a priority sometime. 6y
kgriffith I love to write, and I‘m good at it, but I don‘t write fiction and am terrible at routines. 😬 6y

LiteraryinPA Go, you! It‘s exciting that you are going to write! 6y
wanderinglynn I write for work and finally got up the nerve to submit a professional piece and it‘s going to be published next month! I also write for fun. I do NaNoWriMo every year & I love it. Some years I hit 50k, some years I don‘t And that‘s okay because sometimes life happens. I‘ve never done anything with what I write. But I feel that the creative writing helps me in my day-job non-creative writing. 6y
LoLo_and_The_Dude Good for you!!! Yay!! 6y
mcipher So awesome! I say this to myself periodically but usually I don‘t do much writing. I have a concept for NaNoWriMo this year and I‘m determined to try again and get back into the the habit (years ago I wrote all the time). I hope you get started and feel great about it!! 6y
TheDaysGoBy I write for pleasure and have been at fanfiction for over 10 years 😂 This year has been rough and I‘ve fallen out of my routine but I‘m looking to get back into it. I always keep a notebook/journal on me for ideas or to write a scene snippet should it strike me 6y
Valeka Yayyyyy you!!!! So happy that you‘ve decided to write. 📝 I ghostwrite for a few websites and am a contributing writer to some political journals. My passion is writing literary fiction. I‘ve completed drafts for 3 novels but they‘re currently in my desk drawer because...I‘m a big chicken! 6y
jmofo YAY!!! 6y
RainyDayReading I write. Mostly fantasy though I‘ve got a murder mystery percolating in my head. As much as I‘d love to be an author someday, I‘m trying to be content with the fact that no one will probably ever read what I write haha. So I write purely for my own enjoyment (: I fell out of it for about a year but I‘m hoping to get back to it starting Nov. 1st with NanoWrimo. 6y
Leigh_Medeiros Exciting! I think, truly, the hardest part is just beginning. Writing begets writing. Momentum will build! 6y

Just started the audiobook!

“What if the person you thought you knew best turns out to be someone you never knew at all . . . ?
Andrea knows everything about her mother, Laura. She knows she‘s spent her whole life in the small beachside town of Belle Isle; she knows she‘s never wanted anything more than to live a quiet life as a pillar of the community; she knows she‘s never kept a secret in her life. Because we all know our mothers, don‘t we?”

Ingerella I pre-ordered the book for my Kindle and forgot about it. It was such a nice surprise this week! 6y

Why am I listening to this when:

1. It‘s night
2. I live in Sacramento
3. My husband is out of town

ReadingSusan Oh my god! Don‘t do it! It‘s too scary to read at night 🤣 6y
MinDea Hahaha. I am really enjoying this book. And while I don't think it is scary while reading it I do find myself wondering for quite some time at night about how safely locked up my house is at night 🤔😆😆😆😆 and wondering if I should get an alarm system now. 😏 6y

claffy_reads It didn't freak me out as much as Helter Skelter, but I was definitely listening for noises in the house at night for awhile after! 6y
SandyW Not something I could do! 😬 6y
jmofo @callielafleur same on both counts! Yipes stripes! 6y
Crystalblu I was freaked out and I live in Grass Valley! My friends dad worked with him for a brief time in Auburn. All a little too close to home! 6y

Skeebies05 What was your take on the casting from the trailer? 6y
YouReadMyEyes @Skeebies05 I don‘t really know much about Felicity Jones (I‘m not a Star Wars person). What do you think? 6y
Skeebies05 I think she‘s a good actress but that attempted accent was not great. I wonder if it will turn me off of the whole movie. . . 6y

My dogs LOVE the #24in48 #ReadAThon because they get extra snuggle time while I read all morning 😊

I‘m at 7 hours. Hope I can get another 7 at least before it‘s through. I had an event yesterday and have to get some work in later today, so I‘m trying to sneak in as much reading as I can! Does reading for work count? Lol, I‘m thinking no...
