Short #audiowalk today because of the potential for rain, so I didn‘t get much listening in.

‘A high school show-and-tell session explodes into a nightmare of evil...‘

Read this in January for the #LosersClub.

Starts with a shooting then turns into something that reminds me of a twisted version of The Breakfast Club. Great writing. Strange twist.

The overwhelming crowds make a visit to The Stanley rather underwhelming 🤷🏻‍♀️

bookandbedandtea Why are there always sooooo many people in Estes?? 5d
TheBookgeekFrau @bookandbedandtea Omg, it was horrible!! The West's equivalent to summer in The Hamptons 😂😂 Saturday there wasn't a parking spot to be found in town. So glad that was when we chose to visit Rocky Mountain state park!! 4d
bookandbedandtea @TheBookgeekFrau Weekends in Estes are generally hideous (I assume as I haven't been there in years- see hideousness!) but RMSP is a delight. Maybe I'll suggest to the hubby that it's time for a visit... if we can bear to drive through Estes! 4d

TheBookgeekFrau @bookandbedandtea As we have discovered!! 😤 RMSP is breath taking, at least the 3 miles of it that we hiked 😂 Unfortunately Estes is a main access point so 🤷🏻‍♀️ Have you ever been to Tahosa Coffee House on the way to Estes? 4d
bookandbedandtea @TheBookgeekFrau I'm glad you enjoyed your time at RMSP! About 3 years ago we did the Bear Lake Loop (easy "hiking" being my speed ?) which was wonderful and gorgeous but the crowds chased us out when we tried to wander through Estes itself. I don't believe I've ever been to Tahosa Coffee House. 4d
TheBookgeekFrau @bookandbedandtea If you'd been, you'd remember! It's an absolutely beautiful stone building that shares property with the Chapel on the Rock. And the views of Longs Peak are just 😍😍There's a stations of the cross hike that we didn't get to do bc we spent 3 hours just taking pictures and staring at the views. Has a very alpine village feel to it. 3d

I‘m switching between listening to this for #LosersClub and To Say Nothing of the Dog for my #audiowalk. I‘ve read The Dead Zone multiple times but think it might hit differently right now. Nice breeze. For awhile it looked like it might rain but didn‘t since I was prepared with my rain jacket. 😄

BarkingMadRead Omg James Franco is narrating? That‘s epic! 1w
KathyWheeler @BarkingMadRead Yes! He‘s good too. 1w
Reggie Omg, when 2016 happened I actually wished for our own Dead Zone character. But he never came. Actually he did but nothing tarnishes this guy. And most of our people seem to be horrible for voting him. Some Canadian said that one of her favorite things about Canada was that they hadn‘t embraced the anti-intellectual movement that the US had. And I just felt super sad. 6d
KathyWheeler @Reggie I thought about that in 2016 too. 6d

Cycle of the Werewolf | Stephen King

Pickpick

This brief werewolf tale was a total treat. The conceit of each chapter being one month of the year was clever. I loved the illustrations, and was genuinely shocked at the werewolf identity reveal. I do have to take away a star, though. I‘m sad to report that I‘ve realized that 1980s SK suffered from a terrible case of fatphobia. I do not see this in his later novels, but it‘s so obvious in these earlier ones. (And I‘m reading Thinner next. 🤦‍♀️)

Welcome to the #LosersClub open discussion for #theLongWalk
Please be mindful of spoilers. We have new readers to King who haven‘t read all of his books. When referencing his other work, please keep this in mind for our new-to-King friends. Don‘t forget to tag each other in the comments so your friends can see your reply. Have fun!

Bookwormjillk I liked this more when I read it as a teen I think. As an adult I thought it was too long and SK was a bit too much with some of the sidebars. It read very late 70‘s early 80‘s to me. Still King do readable but not a favorite. 1w
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk 💯 could have been a short story! 1w

JenlovesJT47 I enjoyed this and am looking forward to the movie adaptation! It is one long existential crisis that fills you with dread. 1w
AllDebooks I did not like this. I found it repetitive and overlong. It certainly was tense and horrifying. I agree, @BarkingMadRead it would be better as a concise short story. 1w
5feet.of.fury I didn‘t like it either. Weird side note though, there was a 20 mile race that went from Kittery Maine to Salisbury Massachusetts and goes through the part of Rt1 NH that they were on at one point. I was there once also trying to beat an aggressive time cut off 1w
KathyWheeler I liked it but feel it would‘ve worked better as a novella. I also have mixed feelings about the ending. 1w
ElizaMarie How will this change when the movie version comes out? I am curious to see what direction this goes - and what the movie ending will be. I enjoyed this book - I liked the boys' conversations throughout the walk and the different character developments. I agree with y'all thinking this would have fared much better as a novella. 1w
Karkar This was okay for me. Real middle of the road. It did do a very good job of stressing me out. 1w
Julies_Bookshelf_Adventures I felt like this would have been better as a novella. It had an interesting premise, but kinda lost itself for a bit. Really stressful in general, but I enjoyed the thought experiment of how psychologically and physically something like this would affect people. 1w
kwmg40 I'd read this book some years ago and, though I liked the story very much, I found it very disturbing and decided not to reread it at this time. I've always been intrigued by the real-life Swedish Fotrally race inspired by this book. Nothing terrible happens to the competitors that drop out of that race, thankfully! 1w
