Life with Picasso | Franoise Gilot, Carlton Lake

A little behind thanks to so much baseball 💔 so Sunday morning is for reading up for #sundaybuddyread with my coffee in a cup from Nice where I went to museums full of Picassos and my reading chair TBR is updated to include #finishwhatyoustarted #allergictochunksters #nonfictionnovember #literarycrew and my latest mini Lego set

Aims42 Ugh, what a heartbreaker of an ending 😢 6d
Cathythoughts Great pic. Enjoy your coffee x 6d
mcctrish @Aims42 there is some crying in baseball 6d

ChaoticMissAdventures I am reading Far From The Tree this month too! It is a commitment. 6d
mcctrish @ChaoticMissAdventures I started this so long ago 🤦🏻‍♀️ I stalled out at schizophrenia and truthfully I have always wondered why he didn‘t include a chapter on women considering how some of the world feels about having a girl child 6d
ChaoticMissAdventures @mcctrish I just looked at the chapters yesterday, and was also immediately annoyed that there was a son chapter but nothing that spoke to women. Glad I am not alone there. 6d
TheBookHippie @mcctrish ugh so upset about the baseball. 6d
Aims42 @mcctrish very true! 😢💔 5d
janeycanuck Ugh, that game… right down to the very bitter end! May you be more successful in your quest to finish what you started! 5d

I struggle with this one.

I didn't connect with any of the characters, in fact I kept thinking that if it weren't for Kyle (who I hate, by the way) this whole story wouldn't exist.

The slow pace, character driven plot just didn't grab me like the Farseer Trilogy did.

However, I understand that Hobb develops her stories over time, and I can see a lot of potential in this trilogy and its importance in the overall Elderling series.

Enchanted_Bibliophile @PuddleJumper I know I'm way behind on the #RealmOfElderlings timetable, but I'm going to try my best to catch up before the end of the year. 1w
Ruthiella Kyle is despicable. But there is good character development in this trilogy, especially with Malta IMO. 1w

PuddleJumper Kyle is the absolute worst. He is a catalyst for the other characters and plot but yeah, it's hard sometimes when nearly everything goes back to one character. I've totally lost the plot with where we are! I think this book was for Sep/Oct and last one is Nov/Dec. I'm very behind as well 1w
Enchanted_Bibliophile @Ruthiella I can't wait to see that, she really got the spoiled little teenage brat going strong in this one. 1w
Enchanted_Bibliophile @PuddleJumper Glad to hear it's not just me 😊 1w

Never Fade | Alexandra Bracken

Pickpick

This is an awesome second book.
In YA, I often run into what I like to call middle book syndrome – where the second installment seems to lack enough content for a full story, but without that content, the final third book just wouldn't make sense.

Alexandra really nailed it with this one.
It is action packed, power driven, tense and dark featuring a high-stakes rebellion and political oppression.

👇🏼 Continue 👇🏼

Enchanted_Bibliophile I enjoyed the brisk pacing with just enough inner turmoil to keep me hooked.

I can't believe I never finished the series, especially with that cliffhanger ending.

Here‘s my #10beforetheend selection. I‘m always looking for something that encourages me to read what I already own.

A few will do double work for the #OffMyShelf challenge.

The Quincunx will meet #Allergictochunksters and #ChunksterChallenge2025 .

It‘s also a holdover along with The Illusionist from the #14Books14Weeks challenge. 🙊

ChaoticMissAdventures So many good titles! You can never go wrong with a Morrison. Good luck 🤞 3w
merelybookish That's a fun lineup! 3w

Ruthiella @merelybookish I agree! A good mix of genre, length, etc. 3w
vivastory Can't go wrong w/ Everett! One of my funniest signed book stories is a few yrs ago I was reading Carey's “Oscar & Lucinda“ which I happened to pick up at Half Price Books. Halfway through I looked at the front & noticed it was signed by Carey. A nice addition...but the cover is a movie tie-in edition...how embarrassing for Carey (although admittedly a fantastic movie!) 3w
Ruthiella I‘m on a quest to read all of Everett! 😅 I read Oscar & Lucinda but never saw the movie. But Cate Blanchett and Ralph Fiennes are both such very good actors. 3w
BkClubCare I have that PE on my shelf, too. 🤔 3w
Ruthiella @BkClubCare it‘s one of the few of his titles I own. I‘ve read a few from the library. 3w

willaful My nonfiction choice is I'm Looking Through You: Growing Up Haunted. 1mo
BookmarkTavern Thank you for reminding me! 1mo
julieclair Tagging was troublesome tonight, so if I tagged you twice - or worse, missed tagging you - my apologies! 🤪 1mo
julieclair @BookmarkTavern I almost forgot, myself! September vanished! 1mo
julieclair @willaful Hard to believe that title is nonfiction! I bet it will be a fascinating read. 1mo
JenlovesJT47 Do you also do #allergictochunksters? I‘m so behind on everything but I‘m reading another gigantic Outlander book, 3rd one this year. 🤓 1mo
Bookwormjillk I bought a mystery about some sort of magic cat who solves mysteries in Utah 🤞 1mo
Deblovestoread Hey Julie, you can remove me from the tag list. I haven‘t been able to keep up with most challenges this year. Thank you. 💙 1mo
julieclair @Deblovestoread Of course! I get it. 💙 1mo
julieclair @Bookwormjillk That sounds like a fun one! 🐈‍⬛ 1mo
julieclair @JenlovesJT47 I do! But I don‘t post about it often, because it‘s not a monthly challenge. It‘s just a low key, take as long as you need, type of thing. Congrats on being on your third Outlander this year!! They‘re on my #AllergicToChunksters TBR too. 1mo

I‘ve been forgetting to note when I finish a book that qualifies for #chunksterchallenge2025. Here are all the books I‘ve read this year that top 500 pages. 3 “bitsy” chunksters but one fully qualifying chunkster. The Shadow Rising is my #allergictochunksters pick that‘s been sitting waiting for me for more than a year. It was so good, though! Looking forward to starting book 5 …

Amiable Excellent work! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 “Challenger” was a great read, wasn‘t it ? 1mo
julieclair Congrats on all, but especially for finishing a book that‘s been waiting for a year! 🎉🎉 1mo

After 136 pages I'm out. It's just not holding my interest. #HailTheBail

This concludes my #AllergicToChunksters challenge. Thank you @julieclair for helping me get 3 huge books off my TBR shelves!! 🙏🏼💕

TheAromaofBooks I know many people love Kingsolver's books, but I have tried three and haven't been able to finish any of them, so she just must not be a good fit for me. 2mo
TheBookgeekFrau @TheAromaofBooks She's hit or miss for me now. I loved her earlier books, but either her writing style changed, or I did 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2mo

TheBookgeekFrau @LiteraryHoarderPenny Thanks for that, because I'm having a hard time getting into it. But I feel encouraged to give it more time 😊 2mo
bookandbedandtea I was looking at this on my shelf over the weekend. It sounds great but it's soooo huge. I deferred it again. 😬 2mo
julieclair Good for you! 2mo
LiteraryHoarderPenny @TheBookgeekFrau I listened to it, but I don‘t know if that would help. I hope it gets better for you! 2mo
TheBookgeekFrau @LiteraryHoarderPenny Listening to books doesn't work for me, my mind wonders too much lol But, thank you, I've read some more and am getting into it....for now 😅 2mo
TheBookgeekFrau @julieclair And Thanks to *You* for this challenge!💞 You are the fire beneath my chunkster avoiding ass 😂 2mo
TheBookgeekFrau @bookandbedandtea The first 30 or pages had me really regretting my decision. But I figured I had to at least give it to 50. I'm currently on 52 and getting into it. 2mo
TheAromaofBooks Good luck!!! 2mo
