I enjoyed all three novellas and I‘m sad that there aren‘t more from this author. I‘m from Missouri and reading these stories really gave me a twinge of nostalgia. I can‘t wait to read more in the Bubbaverse!

The second book in the series is good too but I didn‘t find passages that resonated with me like in the first one.
Ok, one more about the first book. This passage really resonated with me because there was a bridge near my aunt and uncle‘s house that was rusted and literally had boards down for the road. People would take farming equipment over it! It was over railroad tracks and it always freaked me out. I‘m not sure if it‘s why I hate crossing bridges but it didn‘t help. It‘s gone now, I think. But it still haunts me.
#Bubbaverse
From the first book....I‘m from Missouri and yes, it floods. I got a kick out of the reference to Casey‘s.
What‘s interesting is I‘ve never once heard of any of the cryptids (other than sasquatches, but I don‘t think they‘re exclusive to Missouri) that are supposedly from Missouri so maybe I didn‘t live in the right part of the state for that???! I was more familiar with the cryptids from the other series, and it took place in Pennsylvania.
Ok, so I discovered the Bubbaverse because I binge read a bunch of novellas from a different author. I‘ll have to explain the Bubbaverse later. Just know that it‘s a long series of short stories and novellas with a monster hunter named Bubba and other authors have written in it. The photo is of the first book in Asher‘s take on the Bubbaverse.
#monsterhunting #Bubbaverse
Ok, I found another book with #tentacles. I‘m pretty sure it showed up in my suggestion list because of the last book I read. Amazon is stalking me!
It‘s in KU so I‘ll have to borrow it once I work through some other books I have on my list.
#tentacleporn #LitsyAfterDark
Ok, so the alien had the babies because they needed to be full alien so they‘d live. I guess half-alien, half-human babies don‘t live long or something??? Anyway, the tentacles aliens don‘t have a gender and they can all have babies. The human was annoying. This wasn‘t really very good but I‘m committed so I‘ll read the next one some day.
#tentacleporn #LitsyAfterDark
They‘re about to get to sexy times and our tentacled alien who has hijacked a human body still hasn‘t said to the other character, hey, I want you to have my babies.
In case no one has realized, this is mpreg.
Also, the alien ran off from its home planet because it wanted more out of life.
Update: not so much mpreg because the alien has the babies and their species doesn‘t have genders.
#tentacleporn #LitsyAfterDark
Alrighty then. I‘m reading Love at First Crush and there are no sexy times yet, at not quite 50% through. The alien who stole a body, and that person is now dead because they can‘t live and be a host, is ready to make the human guy an egg carrier but he‘s not yet told him he‘s a tentacled alien. There‘s a lot that can go wrong here.
#tentacleporn #LitsyAfterDark
I‘m 7% in and the tentacled alien that‘s apparently been living in the Atlantic Ocean is looking for a host so they can experience being a human.
I think the author might have made cephalopods actual aliens but I‘m not sure.
#tentacleporn #LitsyAfterDark
Ok, so it‘s a new year but it‘s not a new me so I‘m revisiting #tentacleporn. I swear this happens by accident. There‘s a big m|m giveaway on Prolificworks and one of the stories said, hey, you should read the stuff that comes before this before you dive in and I said, hey, why not. The book I‘m reading isn‘t in Litsy - Love at First Crush: A Gay Tentacle Romance. It is by the author of the book I‘m using instead.
Oh!!! I liked this as much or more than the first one. There‘s more character development and something you‘re told in the first book is furthered in this and I cannot tell you because....spoilers.
Art might be a little better.
The art was kind of a miss for me but I‘m also not really into comics/graphic novels at the level where I could give you reasons why. It also doesn‘t translate well to a Kindle. Some comics do, some don‘t.
I did like the story and I want to know more about how someone ends up immortal. Is it because of something they did? Genetics? The world needs them longer? Tell me!!!
I plan to watch the movie this week!
I realize I‘m not the intended audience but I‘m not so sure I would have liked this very much when I was the age this book was intended for. It didn‘t have a very satisfactory conclusion, to be honest. It definitely need something more.
Ok, picking this back up. The needs must thing has stopped, at least for now. I think I prefer the slightly older Enola Holmes in the Netflix show because I enjoyed the very light flirting and maybe someday romance between her and the Marquess. That could be because that‘s what I was in the mood for.
I‘m mixed on this one. I liked the general premise but sometimes the story felt like it was missing...something. The art helped improve the quality of the story, though. And there‘s just a brief mention of mooncakes in a story named after them???
This is the most delightful and charming book I‘ve ever read. The art is gorgeous and it‘s an excellent reminder that our memories aren‘t just with us and, at the heart of it, this is a story about finding yourself and the people you‘re meant to be with.
I decided to read this after watching the Netflix movie. So far, I prefer Enola‘s relationship with her mother in the movie over that of the book. And if needs just shows up in the book one more time, I‘m might scream (I‘m not very far in so I expect to scream soon).
This is commentary on depression and anxiety, with a side of medical ethics, told by way of a ghost story. I appreciated the depiction of depression snd there were some moments when I thought the boyfriend might take away the main character‘s agency do I was a little nervous but it works out by the end of the story.
I enjoyed the witches through history storyline that made up the first part of the book. Then it became some really powerful witches meet The Stepford Wives and was just an ok story. It was definitely rushed but I think some of that‘s because the comic line ended (or something like that). I‘d like to see where the go with it do maybe someday it‘ll be picked back up.
Amazon is once again stalking my wishlist and has offered me a $6 credit for a number of books. It was hard to chose but I‘ve wanted this one since I saw the announcement it was coming. It‘s $11.99 and that‘s more than I like to spend on an ebook from an not-known-to-me author but $5.99 is more in my range. I‘ve acquired it and it‘s now in the hoard.
I ran out of #tentacleporn but I did read this earlier this year and there are tentacles during sexy times. Now y‘all have three tentacly options for #LitsyAfterDark reading. Of the three, this one has the most actual plot/story. You don‘t have to have read the Whyborne & Griffin books but it does add to the story.
A nice collection of #tentacleporn that actually has a story - paranormal FBI(ish) agents who end up with different careers, a wedding filled with shenanigans, and babies. I‘ll leave you to read it to figure out how that all happens. If you want to ease into tentacles during sexy times, this might be a better option than Ascquidentally In Love. #LitsyAfterDark
There is definitely tentacle sex but it‘s not so porn-y in this book. And there‘s no tentacock that can impregnate someone so there‘s that. So far, this is a pretty good series of stories that Derr took the time to edit or had someone edit (sometimes there are typos and small errors in Derr‘s stories). #tentacleporn #LitsyAfterDark
The second story had one of my favorite things - lack of communication that almost leads to stupid shit and then they figure it out.
There‘s more tentacle sex but it‘s not as explicit as it was in the first story. #tentacleporn #LitsyAfterDark
Derr writes a lot of short stories, I‘m not even sure you could call them novellas. This seems like there were a bunch of stories with the same characters that was made into a book, which makes sense with the title, by there may be some lack of a cohesive feel to it.
And krakens are apparently gender fluid and can change gender at will.
It‘s been a long work week so didn‘t get to read much but I‘m at 11% in and the tentacles are making a potential sexy time appearance. #tentacleporn #LitsyAfterDark
I didn‘t get very far last night but at about 4% there doesn‘t appear to be any sexy times - tentacled or not, coming.
Shifters in this world apparently need a ring or other item to help them shift. It‘s very odd.
#LitsyPSA: Sometimes when looking at ebooks on Amazon I‘ll see something I like and I‘ll put it on my wishlist to consider later. I usually don‘t like to spend more than $5 on an ebook ($7 on #tentacleporn was an impulse buy). Well...Amazon has started offering me $5 credits on select books from my wishlist - Jane Austen‘s England is still a little pricey at $10 but Cho‘s Vicious Spirits is $6. So, you know, maybe see if they do this for you too.
Three years ago I discovered #dinoporn, went down a #dinohole, and #LitsyAfterDark was born (at least for me). This book was one of the books in those early discussions and I‘m finally coming to it. Yes, I just paid $7 for it but I‘ve read a few other things by Megan Derr and I think it‘ll be at least a decent story. I guess I‘m on a #tentacleporn kick.
I don‘t really know what to say. I have to appreciate the willingness of the author to just embrace tentacle sex. I‘m not sure I‘d buy another one but I‘d read another just for kicks so if there‘s a second book filled with divine cum (yeah, that‘s a thing) and a tentacock (not my word, I‘m serious), I‘d get it from Hoopla if it‘s available there. There‘s a story, just don‘t expect a lot of it. #LitsyAfterDark
So....some time ago someone writing Yuri On Ice fanfic have Viktor a penis with a pop can circumference (Girth? Width?). YOI Twitter lost it‘s collective mind. I hope none of them read this book because, apparently, this is also true for a tentacled god. #tentacleporn #LitsyAfterDark
Under 60% down and they‘ve moved past going slow to straight on becoming one with a god IN SPACE. Or the heavens. Or wherever they are. There‘s serious committed to the tentacles. They show up a lot. They cuddle, they stroke. Yup. #tentacleporn #LitsyAfterDark
@LibrarianRyan has discovered this on Hoopla! I paid for it and it‘s kind of pricey for an ebook and I‘m not sure yet if I can recommend it for $7 but through your library? Grab it!
I don‘t want to give anything away but there‘s an old god, with tentacles that work independently, in the body of a dead man. There‘s been a theft, a murder, and some sexy times. And now the god has decided to court a human. And there are clearly going to be more sexy times.
I guess this is what happens when you don‘t feel like reading for a year and suddenly you want to read. You chose #tentacleporn. #LitsyAfterDark
The god who shows up is a trickster god - and a thief. I love thieves in my stories! There‘s lots of sexual innuendo and outright offers of sex and there are tentacles. Said god even offers our protagonist something to make his head feel better and doesn‘t tell him it‘s semen. I mean, what do you think is coming out of a tentacle?! I made it to about 30% and they‘re headed to the bedroom. That didn‘t take long! #LitsyAfterDark
There‘s old religion (think pagan) and new religion (pretty sure it‘s Christianity) in the world so I guess this is an alternate universe kind of thing. Shenanigans have ensued, a god isn‘t happy, and tentacles have shown up. I‘m 8% in. Sex was offered pre-tentacle showing so it might get started early. 😮#LitsyAfterDark
Ok, let‘s see how long it takes to become a #LitsyAfterDark entry!
This is one of the First Reads from Prime this month AND they‘re also offering Welcome to the United States of Anxiety. I couldn‘t decide so I got one for free and pre-ordered the other. I guess they‘re making up for last month‘s choices not appealing to me at all.
I read this volume before the first season came out on Netflix and didn‘t enjoy it so I skipped the show - until recently. Some online friends and I have been watching shows and chatting about them and they chose Umbrella Academy. Another friend encouraged me to watch it and I have to say that the show is superior to the comic. If you‘ve skipped the show because you found the comic lacking, give it a try. Also, #TeamKlaus.
Ha! I received an email about this book and it vaguely brings to mind another book that I can‘t remember the title of so I‘m looking that up (I‘ve not read yet but I feel like I own it). I feel like it might be time to revive #LitsyAfterDark!
And, yes, I bought it. How could I not with that title?
Update - the other book is Wriggle and Sparkle by Megan Derr. There are tentacles. There were tentacles in Rath & Ruin too so I‘m sensing a theme.
Another option for this week‘s #LitsyATXReadersSociety meeting. It‘s really hot here so maybe microwaving dinner isn‘t such a bad idea. I wonder if some of these could be converted to vegetarian or vegan options? It‘s available as an ebook for $2.99.
Yes, I‘m mostly serious about this as a book club option. Someone assessing whether or not these can actually be done would be awesome!
For the Littens looking for a food related book for this week‘s #LitsyATXReadersSociety meeting, this might be an option for you. It was an ok book and a reasonably fast read. I don‘t find Holmberg‘s books to the kind that stick with you but, in the middle of a pandemic, I‘m not sure that‘s a bad thing. It‘s also available as an ebook either on KU or for 99 cents if you really want to buy it.
I get the First to Reads from Amazon every month and, to be honest, I don‘t think I‘ve ever read a single one. It‘s hard to pass up a free book but lately it‘s getting to be not so hard because it seems to be the same type of book (thrillers and mysteries). I wish they had more fantasy or sci-fi to throw into the mix. Does anyone else have this problem?
I really meant to post last night but then I decided to go to sleep. As I was falling asleep I was thinking about this post. 😮
#internet #Quotsy #QuotsyAug20 #LitsyQuoteChallenge
So....apparently I‘ve not posted in 5 months?! I didn‘t realize it had been so long but it has been. I‘ve not read much in about a year. After my dad died I was kind of meh on reading and then a pandemic hit and the not reading continued. I‘m managing to do a little reading so maybe I‘ll have something to talk about here!
#LitsyPSA: The ebook version of this book is on sale for $2.99. It‘s one of the best books I‘ve read in the last couple of years!
I finished the most recent addition - Unholy. If you like paranormal romance/urban fantasy, then this might be a series for you. Brice writes several series under two different names (Gail Z. Martin is the other name) and they‘re all connected. This most recent addition shows the continued blending of the series.
I‘m so excited because this series is finally being re-released with at least the first two coming out this month. Cooper was formerly published by Dreamspinners so if you‘re looking to help out an author hurt by publisher shenanigans this is a good place to start. The books are M|M romances with a paranormal twist. The stories are connected with references to characters and events but they can be read as stand-alones.
The fifth book in this series, Unholy, is out soon and I have an ARC! Whoot!
This comes up from time to time and I‘m happy to see Gaiman‘s take on this. Every once in awhile and author will say that unless you‘re paying full price for a book you‘re stealing from them. This leads other authors have to jump in to defend libraries and used book stores AND remind people not to pirate books because that‘s what really hurts them. I love own books but I can‘t buy every one I read, and I definitely can‘t do it at full price.
