I first started the tagged in Oct. The premise was intriguing & the beginning showed promise. However, as the story progressed, I lost interest & found that I was forcing myself to read, so I put it aside.

I came back to this book today & only got 2 chapters further than last time. I simply am not enjoying this. Too many things I disliked.

Now it‘s off my shelf & on my Pango shelf!

These are all I‘ve read in the last two weeks. (Well, Nancy's Mysterious Letter too so I‘m all set for tomorrow‘s discussion @Librarybelle ) Between house guests, getting Covid for the 5th time, & trying to catch up from a week off work it‘s been a struggle!
I enjoyed both installments in the Tony McLean series, liked Skye Falling (tho Skye is a LOT [excellent narration on audio]), & found Hollow Kingdom very clever & creative yet repetitive.

Terrific. Shockingly, the MoFos are dying, the result of their screen addiction. Mother Nature always wins. Told by a crow (ST), this is one of the best books I‘ve read in 2023.

This was a funny, and occasionally heartbreaking original take on apocalyptic fiction. Our main character S.T. is a domesticated crow who goes on a grand adventure with his dog Dennis. Not a children‘s story - some horror elements, with a strong message about climate change. 4⭐️

This books started off strong and very funny. The funny continued but the strong faded. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

A crow and his dog traverse Seattle during the Zombie Apocalypse.

This book is not what I thought it would be but was very enjoyable. The writing fluctuates between redneck and poetry. I've never read anything like it!

Having a crow and his loyal bloodhound lead me through the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse was pretty entertaining.

Oftentimes I felt like S.T., the crow main character, was real, and he was just explaining away how the animal kingdom works and communicates. His perceptions about humans ranged from spot on to warped by his upbringing. Found myself laughing numerous times throughout.

Zombie dystopia set in Seattle with a domesticated crow named S.T. short for Shit Turd as the MC. S.T. has me chuckling consistently as I read about his adventures with his bloodhound buddy Dennis to save the world.

Okay, still processing. WOW. I am glad I read it, HOWEVER, it's not the kind of book I usually put myself through. A lot more gore than my tastes run to. I don't think I'm set up to enjoy zombie or apocalyptic stories, and the animal/nature perspective is what saved it, and elevated it for me. So many things I didn't see coming, good and bad.

"Life is not the same once you've learned just how deeply a tree can feel."

I love the parallel of S.T. going on a physical journey as well as cognitive one, expanding the world view.

"fuzzy death-potatoes" !!! Officially the best alternate title for grizzly bear cubs. ?

But the number of books I ended up with at one time featuring animals as main characters certainly surprised me! #animalbooks

I am yikes a at my amount of finishes for the month. I blame it entirely on the fact we got our first dog at the beginning of the month. He‘s super attached to me and I feel guilty about putting him in puppy jail so I can read on my bed so I just haven‘t.

My goal this week is to finish the Hambly book and start another BookSpin backlist title.

Low pick because there is a lot of (expected) animal death some of which seemed unnecessary. I enjoyed that this was narrated by a domesticated crow and we see a zombie apocalypse through the eyes of the animal kingdom. As much as I loved ST the narrator it was wholly eclipsed by the brief appearances of Genghis Cat. This was my April #BookSpin @TheAromaofBooks

Happy #BookSpin Day to all who celebrate. This is my favorite day of the reading month but I was still stuck in March mentally so the draw today took me by surprise! Time is a construct etc. lol I still haven‘t gotten to the March picks but fingers crossed I‘ll finish all four this month.

Words from one of the non main characters, a 200 year old spruce tree. One of my favorite things about this book, interspersed throughout are chapters with viewpoints from other living beings such as birds, polar bears, dogs, ect and their experiences during the apocalypse.

This is extremely funny, despite being about an apocalypse where the humans (mo-fo's) have turned into zombies. The narrator is a crow named Shit Turd (ST for short). The #audiobook is really well done. There's this passage with a cow that speaks with a Scottish accent (obvs) that is just totally next level.

4¼⭐ | NARRATION 😍 = Amazing
I wanted to give it 5 stars but It did make me super sad a couple of times and it might have felt a little stretched out length-wise, plus the ending was hella crazy...like I‘m not sure what even fully went down kind of crazy. Overall though, I recommend this, it‘s got this special kind of quality that makes it unlike any other zombie story. Also, the narration is top-notch. Robert Petkoff knocked it out of the park.

Had a little chuckle this morning. Quite a few, actually…

Just started reading this and already laughed out loud several times.

This book is so great.

Clever and crude and absurdly comedic.

Narrated mostly by a foul-mouthed (but fiercely loyal and optimistic) domesticated crow, the book tells the story of a technology-induced zombie apocalypse from the perspective of pets. I laughed, I cried, I paused to ponder its social commentary.

Readers who are game for the outlandish premise (and are unfazed by colorful profanities) are in for a treat.

I loved this book so much, it follows a domesticated crow during the zombie apocalypse! Book 2 comes out this month, I have it pre-ordered!!

The story was a fun concept and a nice change in perspective of the apocalypse. It eventually started feeling a little long winded but otherwise I enjoyed it!

Profanity & wildly random crow opinions on everything. His opinion about Squirrels & penguins 😆

This book‘s about everything non-human when it seems humans are in a period of radical evolution & eventual extinction. POV is non-human mostly Crow but there‘s others like Winnnie the Poodle & Genghis Cat.

The beginning of this book is hilarious, and I was so excited to read it. As the story progresses, though, it goes in a direction that I don't find particularly interesting. The plague doesn't make sense, the alliances seem arbitrary (why does one unlikely group band together but not another?), and the tone is a little preachier than I'd prefer.

Her brother is away having surgery today and she's so out of sorts without him, she's willing to hang out with me while I read. Not on my lap, though. He's not been gone long enough for her to resort to such drastic measures.

Dark chocolate-covered espresso beans and a book: my kind of afternoon. It occurs to me that my snack looks disturbingly like deer droppings. That seems kind of appropriate for this novel.

Camille deigned to stand---briefly---on the lap of a MoFo. Tomorrow is two months since we adopted the cats, and we're still making progress. In book news, the language of this novel is infiltrating my consciousness, but I'm not sure if I really like it.

It's a very interesting take on the zombie apocalypse and absolutely hilarious. Humans have gone extinct so the story is told from the view point of a pet crow. As such, humans are referred to as "MoFos" and I think that should become our official term.

Zombie apocalypse from the point of view of a pet crow. I really liked this one, it left me feeling hopeful with a smile on my face. Not recommended if you are bothered by foul language or animal deaths.
