I just saw that I used this book for last year‘s prompt! I just can‘t help but think of the cover when I see #LipsLipstick though! 🤷🏻♀️💄💋

This is a good but weird novel about a woman whose job it is to channel dead loved ones. Rather predictably she falls for one of the clients and it doesn't go well 💄

I read this in 2017 and enjoyed it then. But only the main concept that the book is built on stuck in my head (The main character works as a “body” channeling the souls of deceased loved ones). I had forgotten where I‘d read that concept, and thought of it as a short story I‘d read. Tracked this down and reread (actually DNF 70%). I went into it, this time, hoping for speculative literary fiction, but it‘s definitely more of a thriller. Oh well.
Dollar Tree haul. Has anyone read any of these or if you want to buddy read any of them let me know.

Edie works as a body channeling the deceased for loved ones. But what happens when she gets too attached to one of her clients and the boundaries gets blurred?
I really enjoyed the writing style of this novel and was intrigued by the premise, but I feel like it lost its way at the end.
Also I cheated and read my #doublespin book first 🙈
Now that I know Dollar Tree sells decent hardcovers, I'm not not going to look at the selection while I'm there. 😆 The cover of this one caught my eye, and the blurb was intriguing enough to convince me to buy. It looks like reviews here are mixed, but I don't feel bad about spending $1 on a potentially so-so book.
Edie works for the Elysian Society as a “body” to channel deceased loved ones for her clients. An intriguing client, a disturbing murder, and Edie‘s own past add to the mystery of her story, and though the pacing felt off at times, I couldn‘t help staying interested until the very end.
+10 for a mystery

"And I would be the one
To hold you down
Kiss you so hard
I'll take your breath away
And after I'd wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes dear"
It might be a bit of an obvious choice with the title, but this is the first book I thought of for #Possession. I love the cover. Although many didn't like this book & I didn't love it, I did appreciate the unique premise & its bleak beauty & somewhat dystopian vibe.??
But I am here. I‘m here. I‘m here.
I‘m in love with the tastes and smells and sensations that cut through the ordinariness of occupying a body,
bright shocks.
I want to soak everything in.
whenever I feel the darkness edging against her, dulling her brain, muffling her vision, and I know that she wants to escape, I share this wonder with her.
this gluttony.
want it, i tell her.
want everything.
and she listens.
My local library had some books on sale. Luckily, they are helping to fuel my #bookofthemonth obsession!
#SeptemberDanes I know nothing about this book other than it was a #BOTM choice awhile ago and it features some serious lips on the cover💋I‘m guessing there may be #LipstickLies going on??? Im thinking @emilyhaldi @Reviewsbylola @L_auren all read it as part of their #BOTMchallenge ??!!? Did you like it?? Also what happened to Meg??? I can‘t find her handle???
Man I am a sloooooooow reader. Just finished my first #24in48 book. #16hoursin book wasn‘t bad. Definitely different but an interesting concept. I feel like the ending was just okay.... I don‘t know what I was expecting but it was just okay.
Almost into hour six and about half way done with this book. I‘m feeling good about this #24in48. Also @BethM I got the next #coffeebeanbookclub selection sent off to you today.
Current mood but I got about an hour in so far and dangit I‘m going to hit that 24 hours this time!!!! #24in48
A story about channeling the dead should be edgier, sexier, frenetic. This is not. It‘s clinical & quiet.
Yet therein lies its strength. There is a palpable hush over this book. It‘s a testament to the writer‘s ability to create a mood. I can hear muffled footsteps on deep carpets; doors closed with care; the space between each exchange in conversations.
I kept reading for the moment the calm shattered. Alas, it never happened.
The employees at the Elysian Society live in some kind of #virtualinsanity where they can channel dead souls through their own bodies by swallowing “lotus” pills and wearing a belonging of the dead. People come into the Society looking to reconnect with loved ones, but sometimes speaking to the dead through someone else can begin to blur the lines of reality... and sometimes drive people insane.

It will take me dayssss to unpack this place but my those bookshelves look nice off my kitchen.
My last #bookhaul of 2017 arrived today from #bookoutlet. I may have taken part in their Boxing Day Sale 😁
Alright, I need a book buying ban for 2018. Just started cleaning/organizing and realized these are just the hardcovers I own that I haven‘t read. I‘m sure the majority of these are already in paperback! 17 are #botm picks. Yikes.
Going to this book and taking a break from the other one. #readathon #deweys
My started books, short stories, and graphic novel. TBR for #deweys
This book was a roller coaster of sorts for me. At first I was so struck by the idea that it sucked me in. The writing is beautiful and full of atmosphere, but sometimes it seemed almost too much. There were a few times when I wasn't sure what was going on and it was kind of disorienting. In the middle the pace picked up and it regained my interest. Overall, a pick, but I would have made some changes for sure.
IF I had just a little time I would get this book finally finished! But no. No time today. 😓
Sorry for all the posts tonight! 🙈
Anyone who has read this winter #BOTM choice might recognize one of the signature elements: the lotuses that allowed the bodies to do their work.
Well, now I've found how you can get your own lotus on the interwebs! From the ingredients, you'll definitely get relaxed. As far as lucid dreaming, 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️

This was a weird book. I liked it. I think. Not much really happened. But I think I liked it. Maybe.
"Winter makes it easier to pass unnoticed as an introvert." Ha ha yes!
Book three for my rainy day. I haven't moved except to eat and go to the bathroom 😂😍 #bestdayever
I think it could have been a good concept but it was still kind of eh to me. I think there could have been a perfectly great story without the psychic element. And that ending sucked too but that's the opinion of this hopeless romantic.
This was a pan for me. I felt like the book didn't really go anywhere. The main character had this secret past that when finally revealed didn't surprise or shock. I kept reading hoping that something would happen but no. The book was quite boring with uninteresting characters.
A really creative, thrilling novel I was impressed with Murphy's originality but I think she lost control of the plot and her characters by the end. It dragged along towards the end and felt a little sluggish. Overall, an interesting read that did hold quite enough water for me.
I'm embarrassingly behind on my #bookofthemonthclub books, but I'm so excited to finally be digging into this one!
Hello, my name is Ashley and I have a book buying problem.
We have got to talk about my TBR shelves. Which aren't only limited to these. I said I was going to do #mounttbr at the beginning of the year, but do we think I've made progress on that? Nooooooooooo.
I'm going to challenge myself to read 50 books off these shelves by the end of the year. Which should I start with?
Cheers to happy reading.
Homemade beef dip and this lovely book cover. Currently watching cruel intentions as I eat. This book is pretty good so far. Still not sure where it's leading that's okay though. Still gonna keep going. #muchlove #yummyfood #ceasersaladontheside #lovethelipstick #satnightmadness
Currently reading this. About 200 pages in and while I really loved it in the beginning the slow pace has my enthusiasm waning. It is very well written with a lot of atmosphere so I am sure I will finish it...but it needs to hasten the pace.
#mystery #supernatural #thriller
I haven't yet finished it but will tonight. I do not think anything will happen to make me actually like this book. The idea was interesting but the book is weird... weird to the point that I need to finish it even when you kinda hate it
Just started this audiobook today. While it isn't my genre of choice it's holding my attention very well. The author is very good with descriptions. At one point the lead character looks at herself in a bathtub faucet and says " my mouth looks like a black smear across my face " ( paraphrase) It reminded me of The Ring ?
I didn't really love this book, but I thought the premise was awesome. What it did have was an #unreliablenarrator. #MayBookFlowers @RealLifeReading
I've always loved winter. It's the most private time of year. Everyone stays indoors, focuses on their own pursuits. Maybe that's why we like it. Winter makes it easier to pass unnoticed as an introvert ❄️📚📖
Here's my TBR for #readathon on Saturday! I've already started The Nightmare, but once I'm finished that one, I've completed my planned TBR for the month. Which only means one thing: on to the library books! Those ones are all #blameitonlitsy because I keep seeing your beautiful #botm deliveries. I'm looking forward to diving into them.
This book reminded me of the both novel "Rebecca" and the TV show "Dollhouse," while remaining a suspenseful story all on its own. A fun read for those who like a good mystery.
Current read. With #Samson. He's so excited, can't you tell? 😂
Most of this book was a solid pick, but I didn't like the ending, so it killed it for me. There's a reveal near the end which is supposed to be major and it just fell flat. I loved the tone--very detached, which really fit the story. Lots of potential--I look forward to what she does next.
I just noticed the dog-nibbled edge of the couch is showing here. Greta would like it clearly stated that her brother did that.
#bookhaul #libraryhaul #libraryholds #dogsoflitsy
A few library holds came in today. Will I finish all of them them before they're due? Probably not. But they're fun to look at! All are #blameitonlitsy because you #littens are a bunch of enablers. I don't know much about any of these, which is exciting!
