Happy New Year, kittens! January 1st is always my second favorite day of the year (after Daylight Savings in the fall when we turn the clocks back, because we get an extra hour to read.) I love starting a new reading spreadsheet and seeing how many books I can read for the year. I am wishing so hard that we all have an easier year this year. 1. Three biggies from the 2010‘s: I got married; saw the Grand Canyon; & said goodbye to my imperfect, fierce, rascal of a Grandma.

2. Continue to read more nonfiction & poetry. I‘m also thinking about ascribing a word to each day (so far, I have “enrobed” and “discomforted”). And I‘m hoping to make (& file) a decorative index card for each book that I read this year, a la @marleed .

3. Drink lots of water to combat my hangover? 😅

marleed Ohh, I have one in my hand right now. Brand is Staedtler doubled-ended fiber tipped markers. I find I only use the thin side. I purchased at Office Depot. I just checked and amazon carries them - cheaper! 5y

Crazeedi @marleed @monalyisha I love using unusual words and words that aren't used much. I love the looks I get, I've always done this. Also your index card idea is a great one! I have all kinds of markers, pens, pencils etc, I'm a pen/pencil/paper freak 5y

Please let me know if you can seamlessly fit untoward in a conversation in the next week or so! ...My reading word of 2019 was ostensibly because I notice it in writing so often but way less often in actual conversation. 5y

Amiable As a former newspaper editor, this makes me cringe. And I feel for the parents, who are likely very disappointed that the clipping they would love to include in the baby book has such an egregious error. When I was at the paper, we tried to remain aware of the articles that readers would consider "fridge-worthy" --the ones they would cut out and put on the fridge or send to Grandma. You don't want to mess up the fridge-worthy stories! 6y

I'm not getting much reading done and I'm definitely not finishing anything in the next few days with a houseful for New Year's Eve! Wrapping up 2018 with 68 books total, which is 18 more than last year, 35 audio, 3 bails that I can remember and no challenges finished. LOL, baby steps! 2019 will bring me #mountTBR, which tops out right now at 266! 😖⛰

Djspens Where is the best place to get audiobooks? I've never listened to one but now spend a lot of time on the road visiting grandbabies. 6y

IamIamIam @Djspens I use Libby through my library. I won't pay for audiobooks because I'm never going to listen to them again and my library has a large selection. I've also taken out books I would have normally passed up just because they're available. You get the loan for 14 days and it will return itself if you don't get to do it. 😄 6y

Djspens @IamIamIam I'll have to check with our library. I don't use their services because I like to own my books. But that would be a great way to listen to audiobooks. If I like the book, I'll most likely buy the book, too. Thanks! 6y

IamIamIam @Djspens Good luck! I hope you find that the library has that option! It's really opened me up, not only to the fact that audiobooks aren't cheating but to jumping into large books that seem intimidating in print. I've found myself with less free time to sit and read so audiobooks have filled that space while driving, cleaning or laundry. It's been a real help! 6y
