Am really enjoying reading these Christies. On to the next one.
Am really enjoying reading these Christies. On to the next one.
Very clever and twisty whodunnit mystery with a surprisingly complex plot for a short book — not as great as some of her later work (there are probably too many side stories and dead ends) but worthwhile for Christie fans.
Spent a bit of my Canada Day finishing this one. Another great, (albeit convoluted) Agatha Christie novel. Don‘t worry, the only nod to golf in this book is where the body was discovered.
“No?”
“'Hell!' said the Prince—and kissed her!”
And I suited the action to the word.

Hercule Poirot receives a letter begging him to travel to Merlinville-sur-Mer immediately. The writer of the letter, millionaire Monsieur Renauld, is worried about something that he doesn't do more than allude to & Poirot's curiosity is piqued. When Poirot & Hastings arrive at the Renaulds' estate, they are shocked to hear that their mysterious letter writer was murdered the night before. (continued)
It took over one hour for the golf course to come up and keep me wondering why Agatha Christie chose the title. Even later the choice of place were the victim was found seemed completely unnecessary and senseless. Maybe she was out of titles?
Other than that it was a nice murder mystery with the well-known twists.
This one was weird. I thought it would deal with a murder while golfing. Nope! It is really crazy. Each time I thought Poirot and Hastings had the killer arrested, I was wrong. It didn't keep my attention as much as the other one, but it was still good.
😊 Happy Reading 😊

On Friday the 13th, one reads mystery, right?
I wonder how many people have read Dame Agatha's books over the years when life has been too hard to cope with. Taking a break from my cold house to take a highly overheated walk in the bot gardens. That's our winter for you.
Well went and realized I read the 1 st book in the series and had the second book so I‘ll start there
Starting to slowly make by way through Agatha Christie, starting with the Hercule Poirot series. *large print so I don‘t need readers at the volleyball tournament. 😂

I believe that a well-known anecdote exited to the effect that a young writer, determined to make the commencement of his story forcible and original enough to catch and rivet the attention of the most blasé of editors, penned the following sentence:
“‘Hell!‘ said the Duchess.”

Amazing! Apart from the annoying character of Hastings, it's an amazing read! And couldn't see the twists and turns coming in the end!
"If for an hour one experiences sensations and emotion of the most terrible, one has lived many hours!"
Understood the meaning in these times which is fraught with death and misery!
I was all excited because I thought I had figured out who did it before it was revealed. I was wrong again 😂
Working my way through the Poirot series with book 2. Still the hilarious narration of Hastings - the chapter of him being “in love” is snort worthy😂 Again I couldn‘t predict the outcome of the mystery. Good fun. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
The 2nd Poirot . I‘ve read some Christie before, didn‘t keep track in my younger days.I‘m trying to read them in order. So enjoyable.Like your favorite tea, your cozy sweater, your comfortable shoes.Definitely Christie is one of the building blocks of the mystery genre.
What a lovely way to end the day .A little Christie , a little Obama....🙂then..🥱😴
I got The Murder on the Links on audio along with Murder on the Orient Express, which I'll save for later. The plot of this one is dizzying, and I didn't really get it until I read summaries online afterward. Still, I enjoyed the characters, and I can't expect to keep up with Poirot, so it's a "pick" for me.

Today I finished listening to this via the delightful Phoebe Reads A Mystery podcast. I like letting an old Agatha Christie wash over me via audio and not put any effort into working out who did it, I find it quite comforting not to bother looking for any clues at all!

Another Poirot mystery. I enjoyed the location in France, but Hastings and his crushes got on my nerves a bit. #authoramonth2020 @Soubhiville
I didn't like it that much, although I was entertained enough to finish. The plot was convoluted and over the top. Christie's works sometimes challenge reality, but this one was just too much. Too many coincidences, few compelling characters, and a weak reveal. Poirot is always charming though, but I don't think this will be a re-read for me.

2.5 ⭐️ I picked this up due to the podcast #phoebereadsamystery and quite honestly I got bored with it and quit the podcast about a month ago and just let the book just linger. It‘s just a book that isn‘t for me. #2020 #bookreview #fiction #agathacristie #mystery #classic #bookstagram #ebook

Second go with this one. I‘m still on the fence about it. I love Poirot & no one spins a mystery like Dame Agatha, but HASTINGS SHUT UP. 😂🤣 I really liked Cinderella & I loved all the red herrings/twists. This dragged in places, for me, and I was really wishing Hastings had sat this one out... 😂 On to the next! (I‘ve been listening to these on Scrib‘d and I enjoy Hugh Fraser‘s narration. David Suchet himself narrates the next one!)
Definitely a pick! I liked the romantic sideline for Hastings, our narrator. A lot of twists I didn‘t anticipate - it‘s not over till the last page! Not going to lie, Hastings telling them story reminds me a lot of the Holmes-Watson dynamic in Doyle‘s works.
A very twisty tale, I enjoyed the mistery greatly. Could do with Hastings melodrama (I have to confess he never did much for me), but Poirot was in great form.
And I suited the action to the word.📚📚

A little reading before bed. It‘s the only way I can relax and fall asleep. Another great Agatha Christie story. This one got a bit complicated towards the end, but it all came together in the last few chapters. As always, a joy to spend time with M. Poirot👍
I don‘t know why I couldn‘t get into it. I may try again another time.
Trying to finish the Agatha Christie novels may not be the best way to do the #readingeurope2020 challenge, but this one was set in France. #agathachristieclubR2 #myyearwithagatha
One of my reading goals for the year is to make headway in several book series that I‘ve been meaning to get to. I decided to start with Dame Agatha. Overall, I enjoyed the twists and turns this story took, and I was wary at one point, but she pulled it off in the end. A very messy murder mystery but well worth reading! 4⭐️
P.S. Would love to join the AC club, can anyone help me out? 🧐🕵🏼
I had to restart this a few times before I got into it but enjoyed how it unfolded.
I really enjoyed the particular twists and turns of this one and my own complete inability to puzzle anything out. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This week's #bookreport - mixture of Christmas and not& Christmas reads. Almost done with another Christmas book, so if I had waited a little while there would probably be another book on the stack. Tagged book was my favorite of the bunch, closely followed by Fatherland.

Guys, I'm so far behind in every aspect of my life right now, and I totally forgot to post discussion questions for this month's #agathachristieclubR2 book. Find them below! @TheAromaofBooks @Librarybelle @AnneCecilie
Just realized I forgot to post this one the other day! This isn't my favorite Christie, but it's still a good time, and I have a soft spot for Hastings.

Finished this one for November‘s #agathachristieclubr2 ! I‘m enjoying the re-reads of Christie‘s earlier works.
I don't think I've read this one TOO many times in my life 🙂
“As always, I admired the man while disliking him.”
I felt a little like this about Murder on the Links. While I enjoyed the writing and mystery, I didn‘t connect with the detective face-off. I didn‘t care enough about the feud, so I unfortunately found it tiresome. 🧐

In this mystery Poirot receives a letter from P. T. Renauld asking for his help. Before Poirot and Hastings arrive at Merlinville, France, Renauld is found dead. So Poirot together with the French police starts to investigate and try to find out who wanted him dead. The twists and turns surprised me and I didn‘t see that ending.
