BookBabe A few tips (which come from my experience of reading the Bible in a year ending December 31, 2022):
1. Plan ahead. Set aside a specific time every day designated for your reading and stick to it. Block it off on your calendar and planner, and set a reminder. Making it a daily routine at the same time will set you up for success. 2y

2. Get up early. If you can get up well before everyone else in your household, you can have peace and quiet before people are needing you, before the phone starts ringing, and before you feel compelled to start your workday. 2y

BookBabe 3. Try not to get behind. It is really hard to get caught up if you get behind (I learned this the hard way!) Do what you need to do to make it work – try to get it all done in the morning, but if you can‘t, finish your day‘s reading during breaks, during lunch, during children‘s naptime if you‘re a stay at home parent, during dinner, at bedtime. 2y

BookBabe 3. (Cont) Any chance you get. But in my experience, I have found that getting the reading done first thing in the morning is the likeliest way for it to get done. 2y

BookBabe 4. Immersion read. I find that I can read a lot faster and stay focused better if I have somebody reading to me while I‘m reading with my eyes. I don‘t find that listening is sufficient because things distract me and then I don‘t realize how much I missed. 2y

BookBabe 4. (Cont) So I do much better to sit down and be focused, listening and reading visually at the same time. Some people can speed read and stay focused without immersion reading—if that‘s you, I say stick with what works! 2y

BookBabe 5. Speed up the narration if necessary. The creator of this plan estimates that it should take about an hour to read every day. I‘m not a fast reader, but that‘s another reason that immersion reading helps keep me on pace. You also might want to speed up the narration as you listen in the Bible app. 2y

BookBabe 6. Keep annotation super simple. Don‘t try to do a deep study, note taking, or highlighting this go around. I recommend using one color of post-it flags to just mark anything and everything that you want to come back to for any reason – whether to look it up, research it, memorize it, etc. 2y

BookBabe 6. (Cont) Our goal this time is to read it all the way through in just 60 days, so anything that slows us down won‘t be conducive to that goal. 2y

BookBabe 7. Choose the Bible version that is easiest for you to read. Some popular versions for readability are CSB, NIV, and NLT. I recommend choosing a passage (John 1 is a good one, or perhaps Ephesians 4), and comparing the different versions online, at Bible.com (the website of the YouVersion Bible App), or Bible Hub, or your site of choice. 2y

BookBabe 7. (Cont) See which version is the most easily readable for you, and pick that version for this 60-Day Power Read. 2y

BookBabe 8. Post regularly, using #BibleBuddyRead hashtag so we can all see each others bibles, reading setups, and progress! 2y

Daisey I‘ve very much enjoyed this year‘s reading, but my plan is to slow down for next year and delve into some of the books & passages more deeply rather than another complete read. 2y

Daisey @Allylu I‘m not planning anything in advance or very specific for now and may use various resources next year. I do plan to randomly continue to share my Bible reading here with the hashtag. 2y

wordslinger42 I have found that, for me, fast-paced reading plans of the Bible aren't fulfilling. I really enjoy savoring and reading slowly whichever book of the Bible I'm reading (right now, that's Daniel and Luke), so this challenge isn't for me. I hope you enjoy it, though, and if you ever do something that's slower paced, please let me know 💜 2y

BookBabe @wordslinger42 @Daisey @Allylu I‘ve heard great things about taking time with a specific book of the Bible — reading it over and over again until it really soaks in, as John MacArthur recommends. 👌🏻 I want to read the Bible many different ways— slowly, quickly, in-depth study, repetition, reading chronologically, and also different versions (as @quirkyreader inspired me to do). 2y

quirkyreader @Daisey and @Allylu an idea for 2023 could be to focus on Paul‘s letters. I try to do an in-depth study of one letter a year. 2y

Some don‘t choose to follow that book and just use the hashtag to share whatever they‘re currently reading in the Bible, whether with a different plan or no plan at all. Either way is fine, the goal is to be in the Word every day! 😊 2y

BookBabe There are so many poignant verses. I think the one that has stood out the most is 1 Corinthians 5:9-13. 2y

BookBabe The most important of that passage is verse 11: "But actually, I wrote you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister and is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or verbally abusive, a drunkard or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person.” (CSB) 2y

BookBabe With all these birthdays, and especially trying to get enough sleep to keep in good health, I‘ve managed to get behind, so if you have too, you‘re not alone! Seems I can only read the Bible at a relatively quick pace if I‘m the only person in the room, and that generally only happens if I‘m willing/able to get up very early, before everyone else. So now I‘m playing catch-up. 😳 2y

Roary47 I‘m working my way through Ezekiel, and I‘m just seeing a similar pattern for Jerusalem not doing so good and they are being told they will be in trouble with being destroyed. 2y

BookBabe The prophets are slower reads for me, and while I‘ve preferred the CSB version for most books of the Bible so far, I find that not to be the case for the prophets. I‘ve been comparing versions for Ezekiel in particular and I think the ESV is preferable for the prophets. Maybe that‘ll be one of the next versions I read. I‘m trying to stick with the CSB for this read, while supplementing with other versions as needed and as time allows. 2y

quirkyreader What always gets me about Acts was how God was able to help bring about change. Saul becoming Paul. He goes from being a worldly person who is following the crowd and persecuting believers, aiding in Stephen‘s demise. Then meeting Jesus and God. They changed his heart. He became a person full of love for his neighbour, and sought redemption for his acts. 2y

Daisey I'm very much appreciating this read of Acts as well. I've read it through before, but having recently read more of the Old Testament, especially Isaiah, and the Gospels, it's making more of an impact this time. 2y

quirkyreader Isaiah teaches us not to give up on God. He does things in his own time when he knows it‘s right. Isaiah builds upon the teachings from Job. And then Jeremiah builds upon the teachings of Isaiah. It all moves in circles. 2y

Daisey My favorite passage is the beginning of Ecclesiastes chapter 3. It continually reminds me that things change and we don‘t always have to do the same things. 2y

CogsOfEncouragement I agree with Daisey Ecc 3:1-8 helps me keep things in perspective. I need to focus on the priorities of the season I am in. I strive to enjoy each season - for instance: my kids are nearly grown, I do not mourn for when they were tiny, I enjoy life with them at this stage. 2y

BookBabe As I mentioned in my previous separate post, I was really floored that Jesus actually prayed for us, His believers, in John 17:20–26. I‘ve read John before, definitely 3.5 years ago when I was first saved, and probably again after that, but it really struck me differently this time. CogsOfEncouragement One of the great encouragements from John is that he records many times Jesus slips away from angry leaders, a crowd wanting to make Him king or those who would kill him. His crucifixion was at His will and at His time.
