Apologies @Catsandbooks I have been sick these last few weeks(asthma, bronchitis) so sent your #jolabokflod book & chocolate via Amazon. I know you received the book, but the candy was “lost in transit” now found but will not get to you until 12/26. I am so so sorry! 😞 please accept my apologies.
Late morning coffee and cranberry cake. Of course Poe had to join me. He snugged my book to give it his seal of approval. Planning on a relaxing day while trimming the tree.#catsoflitsy

Haunting,atmospheric,1960s Florida low-lying coastal islands, bayou, wetlands, swamps, low lying brush. Here Faye Longchamp struggles daily to keep her Joyeuse Island, moldy, crumbling plantation, from the government for past due taxes. She digs on her land for artifacts to sell on the black market in hopes of staying afloat. In the process, she discovers a woman‘s skull.Rather than report it to authorities & face jail for her illegal activities, she ⬇️
What aroused my curiosity when I spotted this library book was that the heart of the story is based on a letter from Mary Magdalene.Familiar with the work of Elaine Pagles Gnostic gospels, this fictional spin intrigued me.The book‘s content regarding Egyptian archaeology during post World War II (1924) Great Britain colonial fascinated me as well. The novel is told by Mary Russell-in her perspective,as a foil to Holmes. The novel‘s political,⬇️
I had just purchased this tagged book for my brother when I read this in A Letter for Mary.As a very young precocious reader,my brother was wild for Tolkien & owned many first editions. He lost everything in a fire when wild fires in CA burned down his house, garage, brewery. His family got out;he suffered burns on his arms. Fortunately I had borrowed his letters from Father Christmas, so he has this original book.We sibs celebrate #Jólabókaflóðið
Planning to start this in January.Maybe a chapter per week? Does that sound doable? Rather than generating questions which is not a talent of mine,I thought anyone can post questions ideas, quotes, etcI am sure there will be much to question & research about Arendt‘ philosophy, her times, connections to our time.Thoughts? I know a few of you have started this month. Please keep posting! #adventuresinphilosophy #resistence #HannahArendt

1. My simple pleasure is starting my day with a cup of coffee & meditation/contemplation with daily book prompts about family, friends, myself, community.
2. Mary Russell is an unconventional woman for her times & has a wealth of intellectual curiosity.According to the author, this series is about her, with Holmes as a backdrop.

Breakfast. Cranberry orange muffin to fit in with the season. My coffee is in my treasured Christmas NYC mug. We did not get there this year for this season, but plan to go in January to see an exhibit at the MET. I am home today because my cold is in my lungs (asthma) but with mighty necessary drugs (ugh! Hate prednisone) I should be feeling less wrecked tomorrow or Thursday. 🎄
Started this library book today. It‘s been some time since I have visited the world of Sherlock Holmes & Mary Russell. I am happy to be there. 🕵🏻♀️🕵🏻♂️🔎👀
Thank you so much Rachel for the books , warm socks- I have this niggling feeling that I left something out of the photo- I was chasing my kitties away- they LOVED your crocheted stocking- so I feel like something fell out of the picture- let me know. Apologies ! Your book choices were perfect, I am using your stocking as mine this year, & the socks are so cozy! I assume you made the colorful card? #SSS #StuffedStockingSwap
So many stunning holiday cards! Thanks you all so much- it has been a winter thrill to go to my mailbox across the street. #naturalitsywintetcardswap #LitsyHolidayCardSwap

Finishing up my #LitsyHidayCardSwap with Mens UConn v Gonzaga basketball at Madison Square Garden airing in the background. Not quite Christmas Music, but a family event.🏀🎄
Centered around Queen Elizabeth‘s radio broadcast of Christmas messages over a 5 year period(1952-1957), this novel kept me company today while I nursed a cold.It is a festive holiday read, with in depth coverage of Sandringham‘s kitchens & the Queen‘s office & retreat. The story line of an impeded romance drives the plot.Olive Carter, single mom, typist for the BBC & aspiring reporter,& Jack Devereux, now chef on the royal staff, cross paths ⬇️
At my husband‘s behest, we visited a local small grocery that was serving samples of their Holiday menu. Yum! Everything from appetizers, fish, meats, veggies, sides, desserts. Such a fun & festive tradition. On the way, I read some of this book of historical fiction which I purchased previously at our local Indie bookstore. Very Christmasy day, chasing my cold away. #holidaybooks #Christmastraditions

Band of Sisters, while it is historical fiction,is based on an archive of letters & journals the author discovered,by Unit members, housed at Smith College. These enterprising young women joined what became known as the Smith Unit. They traveled to the WWI French lines to offer food, basic healthcare, cows for milk & chickens for eggs, rebuilding of villages, plows for farming, schools for children.
