julieclair What a lovely way to spend the morning! Thanks for sharing that interesting article. And, I‘ve stacked Common Sense. Haven‘t read it since high school. I think it‘s high time for a re-read! 6d

GingerAntics I had a student come in with an essay claiming that Thomas Paine argued that Americans should eat Irish children and how horrible people were in colonial times for doing this… the kid was assigned to read Common Sense and a Modest Proposal and was supposed to write about the power of political pamphlets as persuasive writing. My head hurts again just typing this. Clearly he didn‘t understand satire or that he read two different pamphlets. (edited) 6d
kspenmoll @GingerAntics OMG!!!!!😱🤯😳🤦🏼‍♀️ 6d
GingerAntics @kspenmoll yeah! I was SO confused when I was reading his paper because I kept thinking Common Sense doesn‘t even mention Irish children… it doesn‘t even use those two words. It wasn‘t until I asked to see the instructions that I figured out what happened. 5d
GingerAntics @kspenmoll he also would not believe me that A Modest Proposal was satire. He insisted that one of the many atrocities of the British colonists was cannibalism, mainly of Irish children. He somehow concluded that Irish children must have tasted better and been more beef like. 🤯🤦🏼‍♀️🥃 5d

I guess the book contains nice arguments where to begin and where to focus if you are really, really a newby in investing or if you know nothing about it. It felt like the whole book could be easily sumed up into 2 phrases: invest long-term & pay attention to taxes and fees.
Here you go, you might as well not read it.

The philosophical resolution of the lives and loves of the Dashwood sisters is ambiguous: the reader must decide whether sense and sensibility have truly merged.

#SeptemberSenses Day 9: Evidently, #CommonSense is overrated. Let‘s celebrate nonsense instead! The entire book is a luscious collection of nonsense verse – there are 31 poems in all excluding the Introduction and the Postscript – which are strangelicious in their own right.
