Silent Nights
Silent Nights: A British Library Crime Classic | Martin Edwards
14 posts | 6 read | 1 reading | 9 to read
Christmas is a mysterious, as well as magical, time of year. Strange things can happen, and this helps to explain the hallowed tradition of telling ghost stories around the fireside as the year draws to a close. Christmas tales of crime and detection have a similar appeal. When television becomes tiresome, and party games pall, the prospect of curling up in the warm with a good mystery is enticing - and much better for the digestion than yet another helping of plum pudding. Crime writers are just as susceptible as readers to the countless attractions of Christmas. Over the years, many distinguished practitioners of the genre have given one or more of their stories a Yuletide setting. The most memorable Christmas mysteries blend a lively storyline with an atmospheric evocation of the season. Getting the mixture right is much harder than it looks. This book introduces of readers to some of the finest Christmas detective stories of the past. Martin Edwards' selection blends festive pieces from much-loved authors with one or two stories which are likely to be unfamiliar even to diehard mystery fans. The result is a collection of crime fiction to savor, whatever the season.

I opened my gifts a few days early because I need to get them packed! Movers will be loading my stuff into the trailer on Saturday and I‘ll be making the drive to my new place in North Carolina on Christmas Day.

Thank you @Mitch for this festive mystery book! I‘ll think of you and your year of mysteries as I read it 😁. Happy Holidays to you, Mel, and Woodford! Please post a holiday photo of him ❤️.

Just under the wire, eh #TeamGameSleighers! I wanted to look for some different types of Christmas novels, and I think I found some fun stuff. Going to aim for some short story anthologies as well, I think. Any suggestions, similar to what's above? Lemme know! Also, huge thanks to @StayCurious for helping me find some neat ideas!

StayCurious Yay! You made it on time! 3y

@Julie123 I got the nicest surprise from Julie - a book for my kindle! Julie I love those British Library Crime Classics and I haven‘t read this one! This was so kind of you. Thank you my friend! I am touched more than words can say. ❤️💚 (it‘s not letting me tag you as Kaye. )

Kaye So glad it‘s one you haven‘t read. I hope you enjoy it. ♥️. Litsy is on the blink for about the past hour. Not sure what‘s up with it but hopefully it‘s temporary. Happy Reading ! 6y
kgriffith @kaye @bklover yes Litsy was down for a couple of minutes around 2p, hopefully everything has been working properly since just after that though! The tagging issue is a known one for people whose usernames are shorter/happen to also be the start of many other usernames, as @Kaye‘s is. Tagging in comments works by typing it out, and for now in original posts, you can type @ Kaye and then go back and delete the space. 6y
Bklover Thanks Kirsten! I thought Litsy had a bit of a hiccup this afternoon! Thanks for the info! @kgriffith 6y
