Montalbano's First Case and Other Stories | Andrea Camilleri
3 posts | 2 read | 1 reading | 2 to read
From the author of the "New York Times" bestselling Inspector Montalbano mystery series, twenty-one short stories spanning the beloved detective s career Inspector Montalbano has charmed readers in nineteen popular novels, and now in "Montalbano s First Case and Other Stories," Andrea Camilleri has selected twenty-one short stories, written with his trademark wit and humor, that follow Italy s famous detective through highlight cases of his career. From the title story, featuring a young deputy Montalbano newly assigned to Vigata, to Montalbano Says No, in which the inspector makes a late-night call to Camilleri himself to refuse an outlandish case, this collection is an essential addition to any Inspector Montalbano fan s bookshelf and a wonderful way to introduce readers to the internationally bestselling series."

#jumpstart2023 #readathon

Beside nighttime reading. Maybe 1 short story per week. An actual book, rather than an ebook, helps me fall asleep at night.

I can't believe l haven't read Camilleri yet. I've been meaning to for many years.

But l'd been curious to read it in English too, since he doesn't really write in ltalian. He uses a particular mix of ltalian and what is supposedly Vigata's dialect... which Camilleri invented.
Must be very challanging to translate.

zsuzsanna_reads I didn't realise he invented his own dialect! 🙃 8y
Cinfhen Sounds like it would be a challenging read! 8y
erzascarletbookgasm I have a few books in the series on my TBR. Have you watched the tv series? Heard it's good but don't think they're in English 8y

JazzFeathers @zsuzsanna_reads lt is of course based on real Sicilian dialect, but it different enough to be unique 8y
JazzFeathers @Cinfhen My dad, who has read a few of Camilleri's novels, told me it takes some getting used to, but once you get the gist of it, it's a wonderful experience 8y
JazzFeathers @erzascarletbookgasm The TV series is absolutely outstanding. I understand it's been aired most everywhere in Europe, with subtitles https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=js74ASrRbxM 8y
KathyGates Love the show --and I've read some the short stories in Italian --in an easy reader series -- they weren't that easy! 8y
JazzFeathers @KathyGates l imagine it will be quite demanding for a non-native ltalian reader 8y
