A Court of Mist and Fury
A Court of Mist and Fury | Sarah J. Maas
The stunning sequel to Sarah J. Maas' New York Times bestselling A Court of Thorns and Roses.Feyre survived Amarantha's clutches to return to the Spring Court--but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can't forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin's people.Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms--and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future--and the future of a world cleaved in two. With more than a million copies sold of her beloved Throne of Glass series, Sarah J. Maas's masterful storytelling brings this second book in her seductive and action-packed series to new heights.

I forgot to review this a few weeks ago. It‘s managed to suck me in for good now. I can totally picture it as a tv series too…a lot happens, the plot thickens, the characters evolve.

Seriously- this series was a good way to escape while waiting in the ER with my mom two weeks ago, and follow up appts. I really liked the twist in this one- and the descriptions in the book. It was also the right level of spice for me.

‘There are different kinds of darkness,‘ Rhys said. I kept my eyes shut. ‘There is the darkness that frightens, the darkness that soothes, the darkness that is restful.‘ I pictured each. ‘There is the darkness of lovers, and the darkness of assassins. It becomes what the bearer wishes it to be, needs it to be. It is not wholly bad or good.‘

book 8 of 2024: So Feyre is driving me crazy. I am hooked, no doubt about it, with this series but I have to keep reminding myself that Feyre is just 19 years old and her behavior coincides with a girl her age. I also torn between Tamlin and Rhys. I am more on Rhys side but i cannot help my heart that bleeds alil for Tamlin. On too book 3 I go.

Enjoyed this book more than the first, even though it goes hard on one of my least favorite Romantasy tropes. (I don‘t dig predestined/fated/bonded mates — thought it was romantic as a teen, but now I‘m like, “You know what‘s romantic? Two people choosing each other over and over again while continuously putting in the effort to make it work.” But I digress…) Will continue the series at some point, as much for the revenge plot as the love stories.

5feet.of.fury I very much agree with you about that trope. Who wants to feel like they have no control over their life? It‘s just sheer luck if you get a good one? No no no 6mo

I think about halfway through the first book I was Team Rhys. With this book, I‘m fully cemented on his side. The backstories are really filled out here and the political intrigue keeps the story moving along at a nice pace. This is slow burn but when the 🌶️🌶️ kicks in, it is worth the wait.

Three stars, I guess. After 23 hours, I feel…indifferent? I like Rhys as a character, I feel like Feyre has grown a bit but her self-centeredness takes me out. Do future books shift POV? A part of me wonders why Book 1 even needed to happen as it did? So many convenient coincidences & plot holes.

That said - I will get to Book 3 at some point bc I want to see how this turns out (and if it redeems itself?).

Kimberlone I agree book 2 basically retcons book 1 entirely, especially Tamlin‘s character. I don‘t think I even finished book 3 because the war plot line just got way too confusing for me. And yes, after the original trilogy, the rest of the books do change POV (haven‘t read them but from what I‘ve picked up they get a lot more smutty). 10mo
Melismatic @Kimberlone hmmm - that‘s good intel, thank you! Many ppl said the 4th was their favorite so I may continue til there (eventually?) but I‘m not so sold on the whole Maas-verse being for me 🤷🏻‍♀️ 9mo
Kimberlone @Melismatic I read the first few Throne of Glass books before losing interest, same with ACOTAR, I couldn‘t even finish the first Crescent City book, so yeah I‘ve come to the conclusion that SJM isn‘t really for me although I definitely get why they are so popular! 9mo

I‘m approaching halfway through and I think my main issue with this series (so far) is largely Feyre herself. She self-sabotages and is so defensive all the time and never hears anyone out - not her sisters, not Rhys, not even Tamlin. She paints herself like she‘s the big savior but in the end she always is helped at the last minute and that credit is rarely acknowledged. Sigh. I hope she heals bc this series will be tough if not.

Welp, I‘m back in the ACOTAR mode. So many people have said #2 is their fave of the series/when it starts to get “crazy”. I‘m almost a quarter deep and so far, the only character who doesn‘t make me deeply cringe is Lucien. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I‘m not loving the retcon of Tamlin‘s whole character to further twerk on the obvious love triangle of it all but already Rhys is more likeable than in #1 so… 🤷🏻‍♀️😂👀

Love the story line, the world building, the quest, Feyre, Rhys, Cassian, Mor, Amren and Azriel. Did not need 2 ½ - 3 chapters of sexual activity that read as if a 15 year old boy who had never engaged in sexual activity wrote it. It was repetitive and, at times, cringe worthy. The ending was good enough to keep me motivated to read the next one.

I liked this book better than the first one. It's crazy how Tamlin just ignores Feyre's PTSD.
I was so happy when Rhys showed up. He's by far the most interesting character in the series. *purrs*
