The Planet in a Pebble
The Planet in a Pebble: A Journey Into Earth's Deep History | Jan Zalasiewicz
6 posts | 2 read | 1 reading | 3 to read
In this narrative of the Earth's long and dramatic history, Jan Zalasiewicz shows how many events in the Earth's ancient past can be deciphered from a single pebble. He explores how geologists reach deep into the past by forensic analysis of even the tiniest amounts of mineral matter, demonstrating and revealing Earth's extraordinary story.

#Naturalitsy September #buddyread

I'm excited to be starting this one. I have high expectations, even if the physics is melting my brain.
Anyone else started yet?

This book arrived today in my mailbox- starting late but hoping to finish this month. The glass jar contains stones from years of hiking & beaching - my son reminding me on some trails that we were not supposed to take anything, but I contended that one stone was ok- this jar is full of stones representing cherished memories. #Naturalitsy #Buddyread #pebbles #September

I've had a lot of good fortune recently on thrift finds. #VirginiaBloomsberries and #NaturaLitsy September #buddyreads both secondhand, in excellent condition.

Pickpick

Zalasiewicz doesn't have the eloquence of, say, Richard Fortey, whose work made me interested in geology to begin with. But the enthusiasm is palpable, and the format works well.
