This almost certainly wasn't the book I wanted or expected as a follow-up to The Talisman but, as an adventure that occurs in the protagonist's adulthood rather than his childhood, it is an appropriate reflection of the changes that we all experience in that transaction. This is a much bleaker adventure than the first, but it is an excellent and engaging read despite this. 5/5
#ScarathlonPhotoChallenge #Day1 #Black My 1st entry for this years #Scarathlon photo challenge is both a black book & has black in the title. Double whammy! #SpookyGhostClub 6pts
In the sequel to the Talisman, we catch up to Jack Sawyer 20 years later, living in a small Wisconsin town. He is trying to live a simple life in his new community. Horrific murders take place in this sleepy town that are similar to ones that occurred decades earlier. This is a chunky novel! It has all of the elements one would expect from a King novel; it‘s scary, gruesome, perplexing, and engaging.

Black House is truly bizarre. If I were to try and convince someone of how good it is, I would have a hard time selling it. The subject matter is tough (child murder/cannibalism), the narrator unconventional (we), and it takes a gonzo left turn into Dark Tower lore. It doesn‘t sound like a recipe for success, but somehow King and Straub pull it off. The final act relies a bit too heavily on Deus ex machina, but overall a satisfying read/listen.
So, I‘ve been listening to The Losers‘ Club Podcast lately (if you‘re a King fan I highly recommend checking it out) and it‘s been giving me a bit of Kingitis. Black House is one of the first novels I ever read by him, long before I had even known of The Talisman, and I‘ve wanted to revisit it for a while now.
I‘ve also been wanting to revisit The Dark Tower series (one of my all time favs) on audiobook too. This will be a good lead into that.

Only about 1/4 of the way through it but so far I am not enjoying it nearly as much as I did the Talisman. It is very different. Fingers crossed I start to enjoy it more the further I get🤞🤔🤓
I was doing so well with my goal last year to read more of Stephen King's back list (I was reading at least 1, usually more a month) but here we are in June & I haven't picked up a King book since December. This needed to change so here we go again.....

I liked the "meat" of the story. The traveling between lands, the hunt for a serial killer, it was all interesting stuff. The story picked up for me in the second half, when they begin a more active hunt for the killer, and go to rescue Tyler, a kidnapped boy.
There are references throughout the book to events that happened in The Talisman, and also in King's Dark Tower series. Reading these first will increase your enjoyment of the book.
Finished up on a chilly morning this weekend ❄️
This sequel to The Talisman has a much closer connection to the #darktower series. I was a little slow getting into it, the omniscient narrator POV was kinda annoying... but that largely disappeared for most of the rest of the book, otherwise I liked it (gory details and all!)
Reading the broader #dt linked novels is offering a much deeper understanding of this multiverse. I ❤️ it!

Leftover enchiladas for lunch today! Slowly chipping away at Black House and so far it‘s great! I only read it at work so it‘s taking me a long time to read 😑.
#blackhouse #lunchread
Nothing like #readingatwork to kill time on my lunch break.
So far I am really enjoying this book and the only thing I‘m missing is a hot cup of coffee to go with it! ☕️ 📚📖
The crimson king!! I can‘t fathom how Stephen king had the mental capacity to link so many books together through the subtlest of references.
Such a good book so far and I can‘t wait to find out what or who the #abbalah is

#ChillingPhotoChallenge #day15 #Black This is the sequel to The Talisman, both of which have ties to The Dark Tower series. In The Talisman,Jack Sawyer is a 12yr old boy who ends up in the “territories” searching for said object. In the sequel, Jack is now a LAPD detective who‘s called to Wisconsin to chase a suspect. The “Fisherman” has been killing children & eating parts & Jack is asked to help. #Scareathlon #TeamSlaughter 1point #PointsTotal-686
Thoroughly enjoyed this book and have to say I even liked it more than The Talisman. I think the murder mystery aspect of this book‘s plot line grabbed my interest more and I loved the motorcycle gang especially Doc and Mouse. 5 ⭐️ for me!
Leg 1 of my #walkathon #litsywalkathon #audiobooking #stephenking and I unexpectedly came across some bookish art and alpacas! 11k steps before breakfast 🍳
Spent some quality time with #stephenking and #peterstraub this morning on a 3 mile run. #🏃🏻♀️ #spooky #fantasy #fiction #audible #audiobooks my first ever attempt at audiobooking, I have a tendency to space out but we‘re gonna give it a try.
I‘m thinking 25k/10 Miles of running/walking? No clue what that translates to in #audiobooks.
Installed #audible yesterday and downloaded Black House #stephenking for free. Thinking I‘ll put #neilgaiman #GoodOmens on deck because it‘s so topical.

Slowly piecing together the last few books I need for my #expandedDT adventure
Stopped in at the library book sale after the gym and found these guys for about $3.50 🤗
Hello my dear booksworms! I would like to ask if this book is good to read? My husband brought me this book when he was in Iraq. Sad to say, this is the only Stephen King I have..
So this happened. Kindle Fire 8, which I hope lasts longer then my last two android tablets, and hopefully out - performs my Nook. I basically but a reading device that can occasionally do other things without freezing up, lagging horribly, or in general just not working.
I have so many ebooks is not even funny, but for the last year or so I've been unable to read them except on my phone.

I listened to “Ten” yesterday and remembered why I love Pearl Jam so much. #Black isn‘t my favorite PJ song, but only because their catalog is so wonderful.
Another wonderful catalog: Stephen King‘s. There have been rumors of a 3rd book in this series for awhile now. I hope it happens!

#MayBookFlowers #day7 #BlackAndWhiteCovers One of the very few B&W covers I have in my library. I'm a total coverjudger, I know you shouldn't, but like a magpie, I always go for the pretty shiny things. I read this so long ago, I've completely blanked on the story, I'm pretty sure it's the 2nd book in a duology.
Finished up this audiobook today. It was full of some great characters. I really enjoyed the story and the narrator did a good job bringing it to life.
#firstworldbooknerdproblems So I began listening to this audiobook today and was really excited to start it. Very quickly it dawns on me it's sounding very familiar. Yes I have so many books I forgot reading this one!

Sequel to The Talisman, of course, and a worthy one too though it takes a while to really get going.
